Chapter 196: The New Commander
10th Position of the 78th Legion.
Yingzhou looked at the Commander who had been transferred to the 10th Position and said with a smile, "From now on, the 10th Position is handed over to you."
The Commander sitting opposite Yingzhou felt the goodwill expressed by the other party and replied with a polite smile, "Captain Yingzhou, the deeds you accomplished at the 10th Position fill me with admiration."
After returning to the 10th Position, Yingzhou had seen this newly transferred Commander—Xia Luo. After Xia Luo saluted him, he invited Yingzhou into the command tent to discuss the handover.
Yingzhou did not feel resentful that the 78th Legion had assigned a Commander while he was away at the Zerg Incubation Nest killing the Dominator Zerg; he had only taken on the position of Commander temporarily, and he was not interested in the role anyway.
"After you have finished resting, you can return to the 78th Legion Command Camp. Our Regiment Commander has long wanted to meet you."
Upon hearing Xia Luo's words, Yingzhou remembered that because the situation at the 10th Position had been urgent, he had rushed straight there without even meeting the 78th Legion's Regiment Commander. Now that he thought about it, he didn't even know what the Regiment Commander looked like.
"Uh, cough... the situation was urgent at the time, so we didn't meet."
Yingzhou gave a light cough, covered his mouth with his right fist, and spoke in a somewhat awkward tone.
"There is no need for you to feel awkward; our Regiment Commander will not mind such a small matter."
"That's good. It's all yours now. Do you have a ride? Send me back to the 78th Legion Command Camp."
Xia Luo checked the time and said, "It will be a few days before the next supply transport vehicle arrives. You can rest here for a few more days before you leave."
"Alright, let's do that."
Yingzhou nodded and lowered his head as he walked out of the tent. His own tent was taller; this Commander's tent was a bit low, though it was only low for him.
Walking out of the tent, he saw Cai Kun and Chen An looking at him with complex expressions. Yingzhou smiled, "What's wrong with you all? I'm not ready to leave just yet. Isn't it a bit early to be seeing me off?"
"Commander Xia Luo just told us that the Regiment side wants to see you, so we thought you were leaving right away!"
"Yeah, we came specifically to see you off."
Yingzhou looked at the pair, walked up, patted them on the shoulders, and said.
"Alright, even if I were leaving, there's no need to see me off. The primary task here is to defend against the Alien Race's attacks; don't trouble yourselves with these things."
"Yes!"
That evening, Yingzhou found Yun Shuangjin. Having experienced these few battles, the childishness Yun Shuangjin had when he first arrived at the position was long gone, and his temperament had become much more mature and reserved.
Yun Shuangjin seemed surprised that Yingzhou had come to find him. He had thought that he and Yingzhou were already people from two different worlds; he hadn't expected his old classmate to come looking for him.
"Yingzhou? How do you have time to come find me?"
Yingzhou sat down opposite Yun Shuangjin, looked at the night scenery, and spoke slowly.
"I'm leaving in a few days. I wanted to catch up with an old friend before I go. Yun Shuangjin, are the other classmates doing alright?"
Yun Shuangjin watched as Yingzhou's seated frame was taller than he was standing up, marveled at Yingzhou's height once again, and then sat down to answer.
"Of the ones I can contact, several classmates have already sacrificed their lives. The rest are in other legions, serving as soldiers." Yun Shuangjin's body gradually relaxed as he said with deep emotion, "It's you, though—I feel like you've changed a lot. Both in appearance and temperament, you are like a different person compared to before. You must have been through a lot."
By the end, Yun Shuangjin's tone had dropped significantly. Yingzhou was already a combat squad Captain capable of standing on his own; the hardships he had experienced were far more than he could imagine.
"Hahaha, I have indeed experienced some things, but they are all in the past now. The dead cannot be resurrected, and the living must shoulder the beliefs of the dead to keep going. You've changed quite a bit yourself after experiencing these few wars."
Yingzhou was quite happy to see Yun Shuangjin, but the Zerg's attacks a while ago had left him with no time to catch up with his old classmate.
"Yingzhou, did you know? Su Miao and Bai Tao are together."
After the two chatted for a while, Yun Shuangjin suddenly spoke up.
"Oh? That's good news. That kid Bai Tao didn't wait in vain. Back in school, I could tell that kid had feelings for Su Miao. I saw him at the Military District last time, but he was busy with other things, so we didn't talk much."
Upon hearing the news about Bai Tao, Yingzhou spoke with a hint of pleasant surprise.
"Hahaha, you don't know, but back then we all thought you would end up with Su Miao, but then those things happened later..."
Before Yun Shuangjin could finish his sentence, he was interrupted by Yingzhou.
"You all thought too much. I never had such thoughts. As long as the Alien Race is not eliminated, my heart will never be at peace. From the moment I Awakened my Back Spirit, this thought has never left my mind for even a second."
Yun Shuangjin was left somewhat speechless upon hearing Yingzhou's words.
"Yingzhou, I don't deny that your ideals are noble, but you can see our current situation. The invasion of the Alien Race is becoming increasingly severe, and I don't even know if I will survive the next battle. Before I came here, I already got married, so that at least after I die, I can leave something behind."
"Yun Shuangjin, the Alien Race will eventually be driven away, and Humanity will eventually see the dawn. Strive to live on; you will definitely see that day!"
When Yingzhou said this, his tone was quite solemn.
"Hahaha, then I must live on well and strive to see that day arrive!"
78th Legion Command Camp.
"Yingzhou should be arriving today, right?"
Jia Zhenliang was rarely seen half-reclining in his chair, his feet propped up on his desk, rocking the chair leisurely.
This was the first time he had been this relaxed since the Zerg launched their attack. His mind had been in a state of constant tension until these last few days, when he finally had a chance to relax.
"Yes, the last batch of ammunition was transported to the 10th Position this morning. According to Xia Luo's communication, Yingzhou intends to return with the ammunition transport trucks; he should be here in a moment."
At this time, Li Fan looked at Jia Zhenliang's leisurely appearance and added, "Regiment Commander, Yingzhou will be here soon. You haven't met before, so I suggest you tidy up your appearance. After all, you represent the 78th Legion."
Jia Zhenliang did not stop his movements, but instead said, "That is why I want Yingzhou to see the most authentic version of myself."
