Chapter 29: Charge

~8 min read 1,472 words

Upon hearing the sharp whistle, the Krieg soldiers clutched their laser carbines and charged toward Helao Da and the others.

In this deathly silent corridor, there was not a sound, only the heavy breathing beneath gas masks and footsteps echoing through the empty hallway, as if announcing to the world that a cruel battle was about to begin.

Helao Da and the others watched these Krieg soldiers charging forward with their weapons. A look of contempt appeared in their eyes, as if they were filled with disdain for these enemies. They dared to charge at them? How dare they?

The Krieg soldiers launched their attack without hesitation, quickly engaging in fierce combat with these humanoid Zerg. Some aimed the muzzles of their laser carbines at the fallen humanoid Zerg and pulled the triggers; others used bayonets to pierce the throats of these Zerg, preventing them from ever standing up again.

After engaging with these Krieg soldiers, Helao Da was surprised to discover that the physical fitness of these Krieg soldiers was not much worse than theirs, and could even be said to be better. Their movements were agile, their strength was immense, and every attack carried a lethal threat.

"How is this possible!" Helao Da roared as he twisted the neck of a Krieg soldier, but more Krieg soldiers rushed up. They coordinated closely, forming an unbreakable defensive line that left Helao Da and the others in a predicament.

"You can't even beat my soldiers."

Helao Da remembered what Yingzhou had just said to him; his previous contempt might have been a fatal mistake. The strength of these Krieg soldiers far exceeded their imagination, and their attacks surged forth like a tide, leaving them unable to resist.

The humanoid Zerg on Helao Da's side were gradually falling, and the battle began to show signs of decline. However, the Krieg soldiers did not stop their attack; they pursued them closely, not giving them any time to catch their breath.

Helao Da and the others gradually fell into a disadvantage during the battle; their numbers were not as high as the Krieg soldiers to begin with, and on top of that, they had not gained any advantage in close-quarters combat.

Helao Da hardened his heart and threw two humanoid Zerg from his side into the crowd of Krieg soldiers. The bodies of those two humanoid Zerg rapidly expanded, and accompanied by two dull explosions and the splashing of green fluid, over a dozen Krieg soldiers were swallowed by the explosions and turned into a puddle of blood.

Helao Da was also injured in the battle; his left arm was severed by a Krieg soldier's entrenching tool. He clutched his wound in pain but continued to fight.

He could not believe why he could not defeat these soldiers who did not look strong, and why, even after becoming Zerg, he could not even defeat these soldiers!

During a fierce exchange, Helao Da found an opportunity; he leaped up and tackled a Krieg soldier to the ground. His right hand pierced the heart of that Krieg soldier, and he glared at the surrounding Krieg soldiers with a ferocious look, hoping to deter them.

His actions did not make the other Krieg soldiers feel shocked or panicked; they did not even pause for a second and continued to launch attacks at him.

Helao Da shouted loudly, "Yingzhou, if you have the guts, let's fight one-on-one!"

At this moment, he was the only humanoid Zerg left on the scene; all the other humanoid Zerg had been completely wiped out by the Krieg soldiers.

"Helao Da, how can you say such a shameless thing? I have more people than you now, why would I fight you one-on-one?"

Helao Da was surrounded by the swarming Krieg soldiers, and by the time Yingzhou called for a stop, he had only one breath left.

Yingzhou stood not far away, watching Helao Da breathe with all his might with cold eyes, and slowly asked, "Why did you want to become Zerg?"

Helao Da gasped, his eyes flashing with a light of hatred. He looked at Yingzhou, remained in silence for a moment, and then slowly said: "I just made a reaction that any normal person would make in the Xitai District, why! Why was I the only one who didn't get into the elite class! And you, Yingzhou! Before you became a Psionic, you looked so ridiculous, stubborn, and thick-headed. But after you became a Psionic, why were you so powerful when your evaluation was only an E-Grade Guardian Spirit! I refuse to accept this!"

His voice carried a hint of self-mockery and helplessness, "But I was wrong, I was really wrong. I should have eliminated you when you had the fewest people around you and lacked protection, so that I could be with Tan Xiaotong forever! It's all your fault! You made me separate from Xiaotong, you made me be alienated by Xiaotong, it's all your fault!"

Hearing Helao Da's words, Yingzhou could not help but feel a sense of pity in his heart. He knew that Helao Da had already embarked on a path of no return; he could no longer turn back.

"Helao Da, you should know that the reason for all this lies with you. If you had fought for points with all your might during the entrance test, it is not certain that you wouldn't have entered the elite class. If you had behaved more normally in the Xitai District, at least not appearing so cowardly, you wouldn't have reached this point today," Yingzhou said. "Your mistake is that your awareness was not high enough, and you didn't recognize reality. The reality is that we are going to the battlefield to fight the Alien Race, not to fight over these trivial matters."

Hearing Yingzhou's words, a flash of struggle and confusion crossed Helao Da's eyes. He seemed to be thinking about Yingzhou's words, trying to find his own direction.

Watching Helao Da in this state, Yingzhou waved his hand at the surrounding Krieg soldiers with a cold expression.

After receiving the order, the surrounding Krieg soldiers did not hesitate in the slightest and launched an attack on Helao Da once again. The weapons in their hands flashed with a cold light, shooting mercilessly toward Helao Da.

Helao Da tried to resist, but facing such numerous enemies and powerful firepower, he quickly lost the ability to resist. A soldier accurately aimed the muzzle of his laser carbine at Helao Da's head, and a dazzling laser instantly penetrated his brain.

At this moment, Helao Da's body seemed to lose its support and fell heavily to the ground. His eyes were wide open, filled with astonishment and unwillingness.

Looking at the fallen Helao Da, a complex emotion could not help but well up in Yingzhou's heart. He did not actually have much hatred for this person; the hatred the original owner had for him was transferred to himself, but the fact that he became Zerg for those trivial matters was something that could not be sympathized with.

"Yingzhou, this is the end of this dormitory building. All the survivors are here."

After Wang Hu communicated with the survivors over there, he came to Yingzhou's side and said, his tone carrying a hint of heaviness.

Yingzhou nodded, his gaze sweeping over those survivors. He saw some familiar faces, and also some strangers. These people were all survivors of this disaster, and they had experienced countless hardships and torments.

"And there are a few wounded; their condition doesn't look very good. If they don't receive treatment as soon as possible, it's very likely that..." Wang Hu's voice revealed worry.

Yingzhou frowned, thought for a moment, and said: "Hmm, let's take them out of the dormitory building first. Hand them over to the teachers; the teachers will find a way to help them recover."

Wang Hu nodded in agreement. Thus, they began to organize the survivors to prepare for evacuation.

The eyes of those survivors looking at Yingzhou were filled with various emotions. Some were fear, because they had witnessed Yingzhou's cold-blooded killing; some were admiration, because Yingzhou had displayed powerful strength and courage; and others were envy, hoping that they could have the ability to protect others like Yingzhou.

Yingzhou did not pay too much attention to their gazes; he knew that the most important task now was to ensure the safety of these people. Under the escort of the Krieg soldiers, they began to set foot on the path to leave the dormitory.

With Krieg soldiers clearing the way in front, and because the path had already been cleared once when they came, they did not encounter any major accidents on the way back. Although a few Zerg appeared occasionally, they were easily dealt with by the Krieg soldiers in no time.
