Chapter 298: They Have Also Been Modified

~6 min read 1,188 words

In the bright corridor of the Research Institute, several Kasrkin soldiers advanced cautiously. Although Pake had repeatedly explained that such caution was unnecessary, these Kasrkin soldiers did not take Pake's words to heart.

"Mr. Pake, you only need to point out the direction for us; there is no need to rush."

The Kasrkin Sergeant said to Pake in a flat tone.

Pake had no choice but to point out the direction to the Testing Ground for the Kasrkin soldiers, saying with a helpless tone.

"That is where I met with the Doctor; we can just go there."

As the gate to the Testing Ground opened, a pitch-black corridor appeared before everyone, with an open space at the exit of the corridor.

The Kasrkin Sergeant had one Kasrkin soldier go to the corridor exit to check the situation, while the group stopped at the corridor entrance.

Seeing that the Kasrkin soldier was about to reach the corridor exit, Pake moved his body and quickly lunged into the corridor.

Seeing this, the Kasrkin Sergeant immediately drew his Hell Pistol and aimed at Pake, but after entering the pitch-black corridor, Pake disappeared entirely, as if he had merged directly into the darkness.

Having lost their target, the Kasrkin Sergeant and the other few Kasrkin soldiers entered the corridor, but they did not find Pake himself.

"Where did this Heretic go?"

The Kasrkin Sergeant said in an annoyed voice, while the lead Kasrkin soldier, upon reaching the corridor exit, discovered that over a hundred Heretics with mutated bodies were lying in ambush at the entrance.

The moment he appeared, these Heretics launched an attack.

"Enemy contact! There are Heretics!"

This Kasrkin soldier quickly retreated, firing his Hellgun without hesitation; the laser beam hit the Heretic in front of him directly, and the right-hand bone hammer that was struck simply vanished.

Seeing this, the Kasrkin Sergeant in the distance immediately made a few simple gestures to the Kasrkin soldiers beside him; the four of them split into two pairs, firing along both sides of the corridor at the Heretics appearing in the corridor while advancing rapidly.

After the lead Kasrkin soldier shot down one Heretic, a sharp Zerg Forelimb Blade appeared before his eyes, thrusting straight at his face.

Just then, a Power Sword directly severed the Forelimb Blade that was stabbing at his face, and a Hell Pistol aimed at the head of the Heretic with the Forelimb Blade.

The trigger was pulled, and a laser beam hit the Heretic's skull; the Heretic's skull vanished instantly, but the headless corpse attacked the Kasrkin Sergeant's Carapace Armor on instinct.

The Power Sword struck the headless corpse again, and only then did the headless Heretic stop moving.

Although Pake's disappearance and the appearance of these Aliens had surprised the Kasrkin soldiers at first, they relied on their superior combat training and the powerful Hellguns they carried to easily eliminate these 100-plus Heretics.

"Where did that Heretic named Pake go?" The Kasrkin Sergeant looked into the corridor with suspicion; the corridor was now filled with incomplete corpses, emitting wisps of smoke.

"Sir, the corridor gate we came through has closed, and conventional means cannot open it."

A Kasrkin soldier came to the entrance gate from just before, checked the situation, and said to the Kasrkin Sergeant.

Seeing this, the Kasrkin Sergeant asked the Kasrkin soldier who had just gone to scout ahead.

"What is the situation over there?"

"Sir, inside is an open space, and there are no other exits."

Upon hearing this, the Kasrkin Sergeant did not hesitate and gave an order to the Kasrkin soldiers beside him.

"Prepare a Melta charge and blow this gate open!"

Two Kasrkin soldiers installed a Melta Bomb on the gate, and after setting the detonation time, they quickly retreated.

Before entering the corridor, Pake had begun to circulate the Spiritual Power within his body, just as the Kasrkin soldier reached the corridor exit.

Pake's body quickly darted out from a gap and entered the shadows of the corridor, after which his entire person turned into a black shadow and vanished.

In the Research Institute's Monitoring Room, Pake walked out slowly and, seeing Kesumo excitedly watching the footage on the monitor, asked with a smile.

"Has it started?"

After hearing Pake's voice, Kesumo looked back at Pake and said with a smile.

"I thought you would shake them off early; I didn't expect you to use your ability. Are they very troublesome?"

Pake pulled over a chair in the Monitoring Room, sat down on it, nodded, and said.

"Yes, they are indeed a bit difficult to deal with. Although they don't have a Back Spirit Ability, their combat training is extremely high; they actually managed to surround me. If it weren't for my Back Spirit Ability, I might not have been able to escape their control just now."

Just as Pake finished speaking, a voice of shock came from Kesumo's side.

"This... how is this possible!"

Pake noticed Kesumo's abnormality and looked at the screen, which was displaying the situation inside the Testing Ground corridor.

The five Kasrkin soldiers had formed a formation, and the laser beams fired from their Hellguns killed one test subject after another; the parts that were hit simply vanished.

"How can their weapons have such powerful destructive force! How on earth was this achieved!"

Kesumo threw himself at the screen, his eyes wide and his arms trembling, unable to believe the scene he was seeing.

No matter how the test subjects approached these soldiers, they were killed; even in close quarters, they were slain by the soldier wielding the single-handed sword. Even if the test subjects scratched those soldiers with their Forelimb Blades, the soldiers' wounds would quickly stop bleeding and begin to recover.

"Their bodies have also been modified! How was this done?"

After hearing Kesumo's words, Pake also became interested and said to Kesumo.

"Are you saying that these soldiers are also Modified Humans?"

Kesumo shook his head and said.

"Not exactly; they must have undergone a certain degree of modification, which allows them to fight while maintaining a human appearance, but their body recovery speed has definitely been modified. This is beyond doubt. You have seen the power of my test subjects' Forelimb Blades; they should have been able to cut them in half."

"But it only cut through their armor and left a scratch. Most importantly, the wound stopped bleeding and began to heal very quickly. I am so curious about what kind of modifications they underwent to become like this."

Kesumo said a lot, and after hearing Kesumo say this, Pake looked at the screen before him with burning eyes and said to Kesumo.

"Then we must capture them; their bodies have great research value. Release all the test subjects in the Research Institute; the price to pay to capture them will not be small."

Upon hearing this, Kesumo nodded in agreement.

"Hmm, I was thinking the same thing."

Saying this, Kesumo tapped rapidly on the Control Console buttons; several Sealed Laboratories were opened, and the test subjects inside woke up and walked out of the laboratories excitedly.
