Chapter 37: Task

~7 min read 1,217 words

The next day, when Charlie opened his eyes, he found Yingzhou still in the same position he had been in before falling asleep last night, and could not help but feel admiration.

It seemed Yingzhou had not yet given up on the idea of leaving this place; he himself had also been full of hope to escape when he first arrived at the Hunting Ground, but in the end, after Geerman told him the fate of those who tried to run, and after being cruelly tortured by this harsh environment, he had finally resigned himself to his fate.

"Hm? You're awake. When are we setting off?" Yingzhou opened his eyes and looked at Charlie.

Yingzhou's words caught Charlie off guard; he had not expected Yingzhou to wake up so early. "Ah, you're awake. Let's set off now." Charlie hurriedly got up, preparing to depart.

They packed their things, left the shack, and walked toward Ba'er's place. Along the way, they encountered some other survivors, all of whom were rushing about for the sake of survival.

When they arrived at Ba'er's place, they found that quite a few people had already gathered there. Ba'er was a tall and burly man; his physique was like an iron tower, giving people a strong sense of oppression. His gaze revealed a kind of coldness and cunning, as if he could see through everything.

Seeing Yingzhou and Charlie approach, Ba'er curled his lips into a cold sneer: "Yo, have more prey arrived?" The smile was full of mockery and disdain, sending a chill through people.

Charlie and Geerman watched Ba'er vigilantly; they knew this person was not to be trifled with, but they did not show weakness either. Charlie straightened his body and said loudly: "We are here to trade for food." His voice carried a hint of determination, as if telling Ba'er not to underestimate them.

Ba'er sized them up, his gaze sweeping over Charlie before stopping on Yingzhou. He seemed to have sensed that Yingzhou was different, narrowing his eyes slightly as he looked at this man with an absurdly strong physique.

But soon, he returned to that indifferent expression, pointed to an open space nearby, and said: "Put your scrap there, I will send someone to check it."

Charlie and Geerman exchanged a glance, then quickly placed the scrap in the designated spot, waiting for Ba'er's response. Ba'er waved for his men to step forward, carefully inspected their scrap, and then offered a relatively low price.

This price was clearly lower than their expectations, and Charlie pursed his lips, "You're giving even less than last time!"

Ba'er grinned, "If you don't want to trade, then get lost."

Yingzhou looked over Ba'er and his men; there were 34 people in total, most of them holding makeshift weapons, and while he didn't see anyone carrying guns at the moment, he could not rule out the possibility.

"Ding, Task triggered."

Yingzhou didn't react for a moment; ever since this system bound to him, its presence had been very low, so why did it suddenly trigger a task this time?

Yingzhou calmly opened the task to view it.

【Task: Ensure more people survive this Zerg hunt. (At least ten people; the more people, the better the reward.)】

【Task Reward: Points (determined by the number of survivors) or Legion draw count +1 (if the number of survivors exceeds 100.)】

Yingzhou carefully reviewed the task rules and began to calculate in his mind how to complete the task.

To obtain a Legion draw count, he had to save 100 survivors and keep them alive; to be honest, this was somewhat difficult. Saving them was easy, but holding out for two and a half days was truly difficult.

Although the Death Korps of Krieg had unquestionable combat effectiveness, the casualty rate was hard to manage in this situation. His own points were not high either, so he had to unite a portion of the survivors to join his plan.

"Ba'er, the quality of the scrap we brought this time is not low; the price you're giving is truly too low." Yingzhou spoke up, attempting to secure better trading terms.

Ba'er glared at Yingzhou, "Hmph, are you threatening me? Don't forget, this is my territory; I do what I want."

"You are merely relying on having more people, plus weapons in your hands, and vehicles to control the supplies, which is why you act like a tyrant here." Yingzhou looked at Ba'er provocatively and said.

Charlie, standing to the side, pulled on Yingzhou nervously and whispered, "That's enough, let's just take a bit more food, don't provoke him further."

Ba'er narrowed his eyes at this, looking at Yingzhou's strong body, and said with disdain, "Is your capital for daring to speak to me like this just this set of muscles? We won't be threatened by you."

The atmosphere became tense, and Yingzhou looked at Ba'er without showing any weakness, saying, "If we're talking about numbers, you don't necessarily have more than me."

The surrounding survivors began to move away, afraid of being caught in the crossfire if a conflict broke out.

Ba'er's men began to slowly surround the three of them, and Ba'er, standing on a pickup truck, looked coldly at Yingzhou, "You are too arrogant; no one here dares to speak to me like this."

"That is because they fear your numbers, not you." Yingzhou's face remained composed, his gaze fixed firmly on Ba'er without the slightest panic or fear. He seemed to have anticipated all of this and had made full preparations.

Ba'er wanted to say something more, but just then, he suddenly noticed something unusual behind Yingzhou. He saw figure after figure appearing, wearing gas masks and helmets, their hands gripping carbines tightly, lining up neatly behind Yingzhou. Most importantly, Ba'er had absolutely no idea where these people came from, as if they had appeared out of thin air.

"Now, the numbers are about right. Open fire!" Yingzhou's voice was cold and resolute; he looked at Ba'er expressionlessly and issued the order. Instantly, the surrounding Krieg soldiers raised their firearms and aimed their muzzles at those who intended to harm Yingzhou and the others.

They pulled the triggers without hesitation, and beams of laser fire shot toward the targets like raindrops.

"Swish, swish, swish!" With sharp whistling sounds, laser bolts accurately pierced the heads of those outlaws. They didn't even have time to react before they fell into pools of blood.

Ba'er did not escape either; a laser bolt ruthlessly struck his head, and his body slowly slumped down, moving no more.

The entire scene became exceptionally quiet, and the surrounding survivors were stunned by this sight.

Yingzhou had the Krieg soldiers take all the functional vehicles from the motorcade and seize all the supplies. Afterward, he turned to the survivors, whose eyes were filled with fear, and shouted loudly, "Those who want supplies and want to live, follow me."

Then, he sat in the pickup truck, signaled for Geerman and Charlie to get in, and under the driving of a Krieg soldier, the pickup moved slowly forward.

The survivors hesitated for a moment, but after the first person took a step, the others also began to bustle and follow the convoy.

Seeing that most of the survivors had followed, Yingzhou nodded with satisfaction.
