Chapter 38: I Want to Kill the Zerg

~7 min read 1,268 words

In the pickup truck, Geerman and Charlie looked at Yingzhou with complex expressions.

Yingzhou leaned slightly against the seat and said to the two with a smile, "What's wrong? If you have any questions, feel free to ask."

"Didn't you say you were a student? I remember that in the Human Alliance, those who have this kind of ability all belong to the Military District," Geerman asked, his eyes full of vigilance toward Yingzhou.

"I am indeed a student. It's normal for your memory to be fuzzy; after all, you were likely not very old when you were captured," Yingzhou replied, seeing that Geerman had indeed asked this question. "I am a Psionic who has awakened a Back Spirit, and a cadet at the Lingnengzhe Xuexiao. I was originally going to head to the Military District soon to fight against the Alien Race, but due to some accidents, I ended up here."

Geerman did not ask further about this issue; with the strength Yingzhou had displayed, whether he believed it or not was no longer important.

He turned to ask Yingzhou, "Why do you want to let these survivors follow us? Our supplies won't last a few days like this."

Yingzhou glanced at the survivors following behind the convoy through the rearview mirror and said slowly, "I want to let more people survive this hunt."

"More people!" Charlie exclaimed in surprise, then shook his head and said, "Do you know how powerful the Zerg are here? It's already difficult enough for us to survive on our own; taking them along? Forgive my bluntness, but your idea is unrealistic."

Yingzhou did not argue much with Charlie but opened the System Panel. He had intended to save points to redeem Krieg Cavalry, but now it seemed those points could not be saved.

First spending 1,000 points to purchase a bottle of Gene Enhancement Serum, Yingzhou prepared to pick out some people among the survivors who could fight and were not scoundrels, to have them drink the diluted serum. Although they wouldn't become very strong, it should at least guarantee a certain level of combat effectiveness.

"System, why didn't you recommend this serum to me at the time?" Yingzhou asked curiously.

"Host, the Gene Serum has no benefits for your body and might even make your body weak. This Gene Serum is a first-generation version with significant side effects, so it is more suitable for these desperate people to take. After dilution, the side effects will not manifest immediately."

Yingzhou nodded slightly, "Hmm, you're right. Use another 700 points to expand the Legion capacity."

In the end, Yingzhou spent another 3,000 points to purchase a Chainsword as a weapon. Spending 4,700 points all at once made Yingzhou feel that he was still too poor.

The convoy brought the group of survivors back to the shanty where Charlie lived, which left Marie, who had just stepped out of the shanty, stunned.

What was going on? Why were there suddenly so many more people?

Yingzhou got out of the car and had the Krieg soldiers stand in front of the vehicles storing supplies to prevent any bold survivors from coming to snatch them.

Yingzhou was truly overthinking this; those survivors, having seen Ba'er and his men dealt with by this group of well-equipped soldiers without any effort, were filled with awe toward these soldiers.

Yingzhou stood in front of this group of survivors and shouted, "I am going to build a camp here to deal with the upcoming Zerg hunt. If you want to obtain food, then you must join us."

After hearing Yingzhou's words, the survivors began to discuss among themselves. Finally, a young man stood out and said, "Excuse me, what do we need to do after we join?"

"I want to kill the Zerg and survive this hunt. Therefore, I need people with firm wills to join my camp; there is no room here for the weak-willed or the hesitant," Yingzhou said straightforwardly.

Yingzhou's words were like a stone thrown into a calm water surface, splashing up a spray of ripples.

"What! Fight the Zerg? Isn't that just looking for death?"

"That's right, no ordinary person has ever thought of defeating the Zerg; that is simply impossible!"

"You're just saying that because you don't want to give us supplies."

People started whispering at first, and eventually, the voices grew louder.

"Quiet!" Yingzhou looked at the group of survivors before him. "I don't have time to listen to you jabbering nonsense here. I'll give you one minute to consider. After one minute, I will assume you have given up on joining, and I will drive you out."

The crowd was silent for a moment. Finally, a few young men walked out and said to Yingzhou, "We'll join! It's just the Zerg, right? We're dead if we get caught anyway, might as well give it a shot!"

With these few leading the way, more than 20 people eventually walked out of the crowd to join. Others looked hesitant and did not step out.

One minute later, Yingzhou had the Krieg soldiers drive away those who had not made a decision.

A few survivors got desperate and tried to act like ruffians, but they were decapitated by a Krieg soldier with an Entrenching Tool, which finally drove these people away.

Yingzhou looked at the remaining 20-plus survivors and raised an eyebrow; there were actually more people than he had imagined.

He had thought it would be good if about 10 people could stand out, but he didn't expect so many to be willing to fight the Zerg. Although there would likely be those trying to fish in troubled waters, when the fighting started, the Zerg would not show mercy.

Yingzhou looked at these survivors seriously, his tone solemn: "Alright, you have made your choice. Next, you will follow me to fight these Zerg in the upcoming hunt." He paused, then continued: "I will provide you with food, but you must handle your own shelter. Remember, do not try to muddle through or slack off, or you will bear the consequences."

These survivors looked at each other and nodded to show they understood. One young man bravely stood out, his gaze firm as he said to Yingzhou: "We will work hard!"

Yingzhou watched this young man, a flash of appreciation in his eyes. He knew deep down that among this group of survivors, as long as a portion of them could establish conviction and muster courage, they could become the core strength of the entire team, pushing the team to develop in a positive direction.

"Very good." Yingzhou revealed a satisfied smile and said gently to the woman: "As long as your will is firm enough, the Zerg are actually not as terrifying as you imagine."

Yingzhou took the food down from the supply vehicle and handed it to these people, and also gave some food to Geerman and Charlie. "I know you might not necessarily fight the Zerg, but you saved my life, so if the Zerg start hunting, I will do my best to protect you."

"Sorry, Marie is still young. If I die, she will have no more family," Geerman said as he took the food from Yingzhou, explaining.

"It's alright, I understand how you feel." Yingzhou had no intention of forcing them. By now, those survivors he had driven away should have already spread the news that he wanted to kill the Zerg.

There must be people in the Hunting Ground who want to kill the Zerg; they just need someone to unite them and provide clear direction and guidance.
