Chapter 443: A Common Enemy
No. 7 Position, 46th Legion.
Seeing that the soldiers were ready, the Krieg Commissar gave the order after obtaining the consent of the Krieg Captain beside him.
"Troopers, move out! Let those damned aliens know the Emperor's wrath!"
There was no response, only the sound of uniform footsteps beginning to advance, pushing forward toward the front of the position.
Gorgon Assault Transports followed behind the troops, and the Krieg Cavalry Lieutenant dispatched several cavalry units to scout for aliens ahead.
A legion composed of full Krieg soldiers was marching forward in a grand formation, with the 46th Regiment Armored Force following behind the Death Korps of Krieg.
Watching the departing figures of the Death Korps of Krieg, Dong Jian said to the Kern Commissar beside him.
"Their task is to advance toward that Extreme Cold Zone and guard against any sudden attacks by the Zerg; other positions of the 46th Legion are also coordinating with the Death Korps of Krieg at their respective locations to push the front line.
If the Zerg don't make any major moves, they are expected to reach that Extreme Cold Zone tonight, at which point we will also set out for new positions.
The Frost Alien Race there will be left to you."
The Kern Commissar looked in the direction where the Death Korps of Krieg had left and said in a serious tone.
"Rest assured, the Valhalla Warriors fight only for the Emperor and for victory, especially in the Extreme Cold Zone."
Center of the Third Defense Zone.
Inside a Hatchery that pierced the clouds, a humanoid Brood Mother was keeping the Hatchery running normally.
A low-frequency tremor was coming from deep underground; it was the heartbeat of the Zerg Overmind—a fleshy organ two kilometers in diameter pulsing underground, pumping acid into the intricate network of veins below.
The spore cloud outside the Hatchery emitted a glow from time to time. A mist formed by billions of microorganisms hovered at an altitude of six hundred meters, shrouding the entire city in an eerie bio-fluorescence.
Just then, the humanoid Brood Mother's movements suddenly paused, and she received a message from her children far away.
"Mother, those humans in the Ninth Defense Zone have started to push the front line forward again. Their vanguard seems to be heading toward that Extreme Cold Zone, destroying the temporary Hatcheries we left along the way. Although there aren't many children inside, these humans seem to be getting more and more excessive."
Hearing this news, the humanoid Brood Mother frowned, a trace of confusion appearing on her stiff face.
"Strange humans, why are they heading to that Extreme Cold Zone? The Frost Clan there is not easy to deal with; one slight carelessness could plunge the entire force into crisis."
But the humanoid Brood Mother soon stopped pondering this question and sent a message to her child.
"Control the children in front of those advancing humans and have them retreat first. The behavior the humans displayed last time is very different from the human behavior we have seen before. We need to understand why they have become like this."
As the message was sent, the humanoid Brood Mother also began to think about the failure of the last campaign. The surrounding flesh twitched rhythmically, and several tentacles emerged from the flesh, piercing into the humanoid Brood Mother's body. While keeping the Hatchery running, the humanoid Brood Mother muttered to herself.
"With the speed at which Human Civilization recovers its population, we shouldn't be losing to humans in numbers. However, according to the intelligence we previously obtained in the Ninth Defense Zone, a large number of soldiers we had never seen before appeared on the battlefield last time. Although they wore different styles of clothing, they would always shout the same things.
What was it called... For the... never mind. They were clearly not soldiers from the same place. Where on earth did they pop out from?"
Soon, the message from the controlling Zerg in the distance was sent back again.
"Understood, Mother. Then if those humans clash with the Frost Clan, should we take the opportunity to attack the positions near the Frost Clan?
That way, we can use that position as a breakthrough point to let our troops enter human territory and destroy their various facilities. This will also suppress the momentum the humans have just built up."
After thinking for a few seconds, the humanoid Brood Mother replied to her child.
"My child, you decide this. Decide whether to attack based on the situation between the humans and the Frost Clan."
After replying to this message, another message reached the humanoid Brood Mother.
"Mother, those Cyberk Humans have stopped their advance against us. My children have suffered heavy losses, and now they seem to be preparing to build a Fortress. Mother, please send me more children; we cannot let the Cyberk Humans' Fortress be built!"
The humanoid Brood Mother felt a headache for a moment. She didn't care about the humans in the Ninth Defense Zone fighting her; even if they had some advantages now, it was only because she hadn't sent her powerful children to deal with them.
But for the Cyberk Humans, she had sent quite a few of the strongest children currently in her possession. She hadn't expected that the Cyberk Humans would only be at a disadvantage during the initial contact, but would then directly crush her children in subsequent battles.
This terrifying ability to adapt—she had to take it seriously! The humanoid Brood Mother sent a message to this child.
"My child, I will send troops to you. You must stop the Cyberk Humans from building the Fortress."
After the message was sent, the humanoid Brood Mother pondered for a moment and then spoke.
"No, it cannot be only us being attacked by the Cyberk Humans. Around the territory where the Cyberk Humans appeared, there are also... the Demon Race, the Elemental Race... Forget the Demon Race; we certainly won't cooperate. Cooperating with them is just asking for trouble. That leaves only the Elemental Race."
Thinking of this, the humanoid Brood Mother used her Hatchery to condense her mental energy into a message and sent it to the Elemental Race.
The humanoid Brood Mother's Synapse trembled violently in the Huguang of the spores. She condensed her consciousness into quantum ripples, piercing through the spore cloud covering the continent.
When her thought tentacles were about to touch the Elemental territory, a barrier made of hexagonal crystals suddenly appeared—it was the Elemental Race's Consciousness Firewall.
"Carbon-based maggots, you dare to pollute the pure thought field." A rebuke composed of electromagnetic waves exploded in the Brood Mother's brain, and acid seeped from her eyes simultaneously.
The fleshy dome of the Hatchery suddenly contracted, and twelve pheromone tentacles automatically pierced into her spine to maintain mental stability.
"We have a common enemy. The Cyberk Humans have suddenly appeared, and the strength and adaptability they have shown are extremely terrifying."
The Brood Mother encapsulated memory fragments into an information packet: images of the Cyberk Legion using Molecular Disintegrators to destroy Zerg Hatcheries, and footage of mechanical soldiers using Plasma Welding Torches to cut through Elemental Race Crystal Cores.
When these images were injected into the Elemental Race's consciousness cloud, ripples appeared on the crystal barrier.
