Chapter 54: New Recruit
Yingzhou looked toward the place where the sound came from, only to see a burly man with a thick beard take off the military uniform draped over his body, toss it aside, and beckon to Yingzhou.
At this moment, the officer beside them spoke up, "Legion Commander Nie Hao, since the reinforcements have been received, I shall take my leave."
"Ah, fine, fine, fine." Nie Hao glanced at the officer and replied perfunctorily.
The officer handed a document to Hu Jie, then turned and left.
After the military truck turned around and departed along the muddy road, Nie Hao shouted at Yingzhou again.
"New recruit, come here, let's compare our strength."
Although Yingzhou did not know who this person was, judging by the reactions of those around him, he guessed the other party must be an officer here, so he walked up to Nie Hao.
"How shall we compare?"
Nie Hao did not say much more; he threw a straight punch at Yingzhou without the slightest warning.
Seeing this person suddenly attack, Yingzhou quickly raised his arm to block, parried the punch, and returned a straight punch to Nie Hao.
Nie Hao had not expected this new recruit to counterattack; he blocked with both arms, but Yingzhou's punch still knocked him back two or three steps.
"It seems those muscles of yours aren't just for show." Nie Hao wanted to continue, but Hu Jie, who was standing by, spoke up, "Ahem, Legion Commander, let's gather the reinforcements for a briefing first."
Nie Hao, who had been in high spirits, curled his lip upon hearing Hu Jie's words, returned to his previous lazy demeanor, and shouted loudly to the newly arrived soldiers.
"Everyone, assemble!"
After gathering the 49 soldiers, Nie Hao shouted to them, "I am Nie Hao, Legion Commander of the Thirteenth Legion. I know that you must be very reluctant to hear that you've been sent to my Thirteenth Legion. Because here, not only do we have to resist the Beast Race in this forest, but our supplies are not delivered as quickly as to other legions, and the climate conditions here are not good either. However, since you have arrived at my Thirteenth Legion, you must be mentally prepared. Don't end up dead before you've even had a chance to perform when we go to war with the Beast Race. The Beast Race here is very cunning; even veterans of the Thirteenth Legion can stumble if they aren't careful. Alright, Deputy Legion Commander Hu Jie will now take you to familiarize yourselves with our area."
After Nie Hao finished speaking, he handed the floor to Hu Jie beside him and turned to leave.
Hu Jie led the newly arrived soldiers into the legion camp.
The soldiers in the camp saw another batch of new recruits and cast their gazes toward them, curiously sizing up their new comrades-in-arms.
Among them, Yingzhou's tall physique was particularly eye-catching, and everyone couldn't help but whisper: "What on earth did this guy eat to grow up? How did he grow so strong?"
"I wonder just how powerful this big guy's strength really is?"
Just then, Hu Jie said loudly: "There are forty-nine of you in total, two people to a tent; you can go to the quartermaster later to collect the corresponding supplies. As for that Yingzhou, with your physique, you'll count as two people. Today, you will settle into your accommodations; tomorrow, veterans will take you into the forest to let you familiarize yourselves with the terrain and environment there. Alright, dismissed!"
Everyone responded in unison: "Yes!"
"My name is Fan Ge; I previously served in the Ninth Legion and have participated in three large-scale wars and ten field combat Tasks." The soldier who had spoken to Yingzhou earlier came to his side and said.
"Uh, my name is Yingzhou, I just enlisted."
Fan Ge said to Yingzhou, "I know, but you were actually able to block Legion Commander Nie Hao's attack earlier, not bad."
"It's alright, just instinct," Yingzhou replied.
The two collected their tents and other items from the quartermaster's office, and when they arrived at the place where they could set up their tents, they found Nie Hao wandering around the camp; seeing Yingzhou, he walked over.
"New recruit, uh, Yingzhou, right? Your physical fitness and reflexes are both good; when you're done with your business later, remember to come find me." Nie Hao said after seeing Yingzhou return with his tent.
"Yes! Legion Commander!" Yingzhou stood at attention and saluted.
After setting up the tent, Yingzhou spread the two blankets he had received from the quartermaster on the ground, lay down to test it, and thought, hmm, not bad.
In his own tent, Nie Hao looked at the data handed to him by Hu Jie, which contained Yingzhou's personal information.
"So this new recruit awakened a brand-new Back Spirit, but is this person in the file really him? Why does he feel so different from this new recruit?" Nie Hao pointed at the photo of Yingzhou in the file and said in disbelief.
"Yes, it is said that he only started to change after going to the Lingnengzhe Xuexiao," Hu Jie said from the side.
"Heh, I'd believe you if you told me these were two different people; the change is too drastic." Nie Hao's mouth twitched slightly, and he continued, "However, I don't think ordinary soldiers could beat him with his current physical fitness, provided they don't use their Back Spirits."
"Confirmed. The fact that he could block your strike today and even dared to counterattack proves he has experienced combat. Why doesn't the file show it?" Hu Jie read the file carefully again, but in the end, he still couldn't find the information he was looking for.
"That just means the higher-ups sent him here with the intention of having him die in battle; otherwise, how could they have let a new recruit come to me?" Nie Hao leaned back in his chair and said.
"That is not something we should be concerned about. What do you intend to do?" Hu Jie put the file away and asked Nie Hao.
"I don't care about the messy business of the higher-ups; knowing too much never leads to a good ending. I still think highly of this new recruit, Yingzhou; he came to the Military District as a promoted Diji Lingnengzhe. We haven't had any incidents of Out of Control here. As long as he can adapt to this forest and survive the battles against the Beast Race, he should be able to grow." Nie Hao narrowed his eyes slightly and said.
"He's probably coming soon; I have some other things to do, so I'll go first." Hu Jie organized the documents in his hand and left the tent.
As soon as he stepped out of the tent, he saw that eye-catching figure walking toward this direction not far away.
After giving Hu Jie a standard military salute, Yingzhou walked straight toward Nie Hao's tent.
He stopped in front of the tent and shouted loudly: "Report!"
"Come in."
Yingzhou gently lifted the tent flap and walked inside.
Upon entering the tent, he found that this Legion Commander not only looked somewhat slovenly and informal, but the interior of the tent was also in disarray, with various daily necessities piled up haphazardly.
Nie Hao seemed to notice Yingzhou's surprise; he smiled slightly, motioned for Yingzhou to sit down, and said casually, "Yingzhou, don't be a stranger, just find a place to sit; no need to be so formal. I'm the type of person who hates those troublesome rules the most."
As he spoke, Nie Hao propped his feet directly onto the table in front of him, looking completely at ease.
