Chapter 740: As Expected of Corax
The corners of Corax's mouth seemed to twitch upward ever so slightly, so quickly it was almost invisible.
He immediately returned to that calm, ripple-free expression, though his eyes were even brighter.
"Father, that is your speculation. As your offspring, I cannot confirm or deny any... unofficial information regarding Jaghatai's whereabouts."
Corax skillfully avoided a direct answer.
"Fine."
Yingzhou knew there was no point in playing riddles with Corax, so he simply laid it out a bit more.
"Jaghatai went out, it shouldn't be much of a problem. What do you want to say, Corax?"
Having received his father's "tacit approval" or rather, helpless acceptance of Jaghatai's behavior, Corax immediately seized the opportunity, leaned forward slightly, and stated his true purpose.
"Father, you see, now only Brother Angron is left to hold the Ninth Defense Zone."
Corax spoke at a slightly faster pace, his logic clear.
"The other brothers—Horus, Dorn, Ferrus, Sanguinius, Vulkan... and even Jaghatai, are all giving their all on their own battlefields to liberate Humanity, for your will."
Corax paused for a moment, looking at Yingzhou as he continued.
"Haven't you always taught us that with great power comes great responsibility, and that we should do our best? Father, I also yearn to share the burden for Humanity, for you! I understand and respect your arrangements for large-scale battles on the front lines, and I will never cause trouble."
At this point, Corax changed the subject.
"However, deep behind enemy lines, raiding the core vital points of the Alien... such tasks..."
A glimmer of cunning seemed to flash in his black eyes, and he used a term more in line with his style.
"... such operations that require infiltration, penetration, and delivering a fatal blow from the shadows, you surely cannot leave me behind, can you?"
As Corax said this, his black pupils looked toward Yingzhou, waiting for Yingzhou's decision.
The corridor fell silent, with only the faint sound of the base operating in the distance.
Yingzhou looked at Corax's pale face, and could not help but sigh inwardly.
As expected of Corax.
Yingzhou shook his head slightly, a helpless smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.
"You..."
He raised his hand, seemingly wanting to habitually ruffle Corax's black hair, but seeing Corax's now-grown, tall, and upright figure, his hand paused in mid-air, and he ultimately just patted his shoulder lightly.
"Alright, since you've put it this way, then come along with me on this mission."
Yingzhou watched the light instantly ignite in Corax's eyes and added.
"However, this operation is of great importance; you must follow orders completely, understand?"
"Yes! Father! I understand!"
Corax immediately straightened his back, his voice filled with irrepressible excitement.
"I will never let you down!"
Watching Corax's departing back, Yingzhou could not help but raise the corners of his mouth.
He felt that he was getting along very harmoniously with these Primarchs now, and the things he feared had not happened.
Currently, Yingzhou was quite satisfied with his family atmosphere; the house was always lively, well, in every aspect, if only Perturabo and Rogal Dorn would bicker less often.
These Primarchs were all raised in similar environments, and they understood each other's personalities and some behaviors; plus, with Mother Ying, Angron, and others acting as buffers, even if there were disputes, they would not escalate into conflicts.
"Is it really the environment that influences the growth environment?"
Yingzhou whispered to himself, the image of the Primarchs gathered harmoniously in his mind flashing by, and then he laughed at himself.
"What are you thinking? Even if it's like this now, I am content!"
Imperial Fists advance force.
Rogal Dorn looked at the red-robed troops following behind the Imperial Fists and said to Ferrus Manus beside him.
"Ferrus, these troops that came out of the Tech-Priests' side, how did you convince those Tech-Priests to be willing to hand this unit over to you?"
Ferrus Manus shook his head and replied.
"That is not the case. Although I often go to the Tech-Priests' side, they would not hand this army over to me just because I visit often.
It was Father who stepped in, and among Father's offspring, I am the one who deals with the Tech-Priests the most. The Tech-Priests could only hand this unit to me; they judged that my 'efficiency' was sufficient to meet their expectations for this 'Purification Ritual'."
Just as Dorn was about to say something more, a scout's urgent communication from the front interrupted him.
"Father! Valley exit ahead! Alien activity detected! Number... one standard infantry regiment! They are deploying into combat formation!"
Almost at the same time the scout's warning was issued, at the exit of the valley, silver-gray metallic figures quickly deployed, relying on the terrain.
The muzzles of the Cyberk soldiers' Pulse Rifles began to charge, emitting a low hum.
They moved quickly, without the slightest hesitation, and immediately formed a crossfire net.
Rogal Dorn immediately gave the order.
"Combat formation! Shield wall advance!"
"For the Primarch! For the glory of you and the Human Lord!"
The Imperial Fists Space Marines who received Dorn's order acted immediately; the heavy shield guards in the front row quickly set up their massive Storm Shields, and the Energy Force Fields hummed as they deployed.
The Heavy Bolters of the Imperial Fists Space Marines in the back row extended from the gaps in the shields, their pitch-black muzzles pointed at the enemy.
"Skitarii, long-range strikes take priority, target: enemy heavy firepower points."
Ferrus's order was delivered directly to the Tech-Priest beside him.
The Tech-Priest's mechanical tentacles slid rapidly across the Data Pad, and binary commands were issued instantly.
Dense Pulse Beams slammed into the Imperial Fists' shield wall, energy ripples undulating violently on the surface of the Storm Shields, emitting a harsh crackling sound.
The shield guards remained motionless amidst the impact, pushing forward against the attacks.
"Hold steady! Advance!"
The roars of the Imperial Fists Sergeants rang out from behind the shields.
The Bolters in the rear began to spit tongues of fire, the bolts tracing scorching trajectories as they flew into the Cyberk ranks, tearing apart and shattering the metal bodies of the Cyberk soldiers.
Vanguard soldiers wielding Radium Carbines pushed forward rapidly, the lethal radioactive buckshot blasting the Cyberk soldiers at close range; not only could it tear through armor, but it could also corrode the precision components within, causing the struck Cyberk soldiers to emit eerie green smoke from their surfaces and their movements to become rigid.
The Plasma Incinerator Cannon finished charging, and a blinding, incandescent sphere of light erupted forth with high heat, precisely striking a Cyberk fire point that had been mounting a Heavy Energy Cannon!
Amidst a thunderous roar, that position instantly turned into a pool of molten iron, vaporizing several nearby Cyberk soldiers along with it!
Rangers wielding Arc Rifles conducted precise aimed fire, the leaping electric arcs capable of paralyzing electronic equipment, causing the struck Cyberk soldiers to instantly stiffen and become living targets.
