Chapter 771: Occupying the Cyberk Zone (5)

~7 min read 1,278 words

"Special units! Upper level! Suppressive fire!"

Aoruisitesi locked onto the source of the attack instantly and said briefly.

At the maintenance passage entrance, three blue-and-white figures, their armor refracting ambient light to blur their outlines, were rapidly retreating into the shadows of the passage.

"For the Company Commander! For Sanguinius! Tear them apart!"

The Blood Angels Space Marine who had just issued the warning—Sergeant Kariliang—roared, being the first to activate his jump pack, his crimson figure shooting toward that maintenance passage entrance.

Several Blood Angels Space Marines behind him followed closely without hesitation.

The interior of the maintenance passage was narrow and dim, covered in thick conduits and flickering indicator lights.

For the massive Space Marines, the space was relatively restricted.

But this did not hinder the fury of the Blood Angels.

"Target acquired! Engaging!"

Just as Sergeant Kariliang rushed into the passage, he saw a blue-and-white figure flicker at the corner ahead, and energy beams shot over once more.

He dodged sideways abruptly; the energy beam flew past, grazing his chest armor and melting a large hole in the metal pipe wall behind him, from which steam hissed out.

"Die!"

Sergeant Kariliang could not use his jump pack for a dash in the narrow space, but his legs erupted with terrifying power, kicking off the pipe walls and the ground to close the distance instantly.

His chainsword swept out with a roar.

"Clang—Sizzle—Crack!"

A Canglei Cyberk soldier who attempted to raise an energy arm shield to block had the shield overloaded by a barrage of bolter fire from a Blood Angels Space Marine behind Sergeant Kariliang.

The tacit understanding between the Space Marines allowed Kariliang's chainsword to strike the arm the Canglei Cyberk soldier had raised the moment the energy arm shield overloaded.

The arm, along with a small portion of the side armor, was torn and shredded under the high-speed rotating teeth of the chainsword.

The internal metal skeleton, conduits, coolant, and unidentified organic tissue splattered onto the passage walls and ceiling!

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

The Blood Angels Space Marines who arrived subsequently used their bolters to seal off potential reinforcement routes deep in the passage, the fire and debris from the bolter explosions surging within the narrow space.

The other two Canglei Cyberk soldiers attempted to use the complex structure of the passage to skirmish, their palms continuously firing energy beams, forcing the Angel Warriors to seek cover.

The beams struck the metal pipe walls, melting deep pits and filling the air with steam.

"Suppress him! Left flank!"

Sergeant Kariliang roared at another warrior holding a chainsword, while he himself, braving the sporadic fire, smashed a fist toward the hiding spot of a Canglei Cyberk soldier concealed behind a massive valve!

"Sizzle!"

The heavy metal valve was smashed into a deep indentation.

The Canglei Cyberk soldier hiding behind it was shaken out into the open.

He reacted extremely quickly, immediately raising his weapon to aim at Kariliang.

"Whew—!"

Just as the Canglei soldier raised his weapon, a precise bolter round shot in from the other end of the passage! It was support from another Blood Angels Space Marine.

The bolter round hit the Canglei Cyberk soldier's arm joint directly!

"Crack! Boom!"

The arm, along with the weapon, was blown off! The Canglei soldier lost his balance.

Sergeant Kariliang seized the opportunity, lunged straight forward, raised his chainsword high, and brought it down on the target's head!

"Splutch—!"

The chainsword cut deeply in from the shoulder, traveling all the way down, completely cleaving the Canglei soldier and the pipe behind him in two.

Metal fragments, machine oil, and charred tissue splattered everywhere.

Seeing his companion killed instantly, the last Canglei soldier's pupils flickered frantically, as if he had initiated some kind of overload program.

No longer dodging, he rushed out from his hiding spot, his weapon firing recklessly at the nearest Blood Angels Space Marine who was in the middle of changing a bolter magazine!

"Look out!"

Sergeant Kariliang was a bit too far away to provide rescue in time!

"Zzz-hum—!"

The searing white beam hit that warrior's chest armor precisely.

Although blocked by the thick ceramite, the massive impact slammed him hard against the pipe wall.

A deep pit was melted into the chest armor, its edges glowing red.

The warrior let out a muffled grunt, and his helmet visor flashed with a red damage warning.

"Alien! Die!"

Sergeant Kariliang's eyes were splitting with rage as he threw the chainsword from his hand.

"Thud! Crack—!"

The chainsword precisely cut into the last Canglei soldier's chest, pinning him to the metal wall behind him!

The chainsword teeth bit frantically into the armor and internal structure, sparks flying everywhere.

The Canglei Cyberk soldier's body twitched violently a few times, and the light in his pupils extinguished completely.

The passage fell silent instantly, leaving only the humming of the idling chainsword, the hissing of leaking steam, and the heavy breathing of the injured warrior.

Sergeant Kariliang walked quickly to the side of the injured brother to check his wounds.

"How are the injuries, brother?"

"No harm done... Sergeant Kariliang."

The injured warrior struggled to stand straight; the melt-pit on his chest armor was shocking, but it clearly hadn't caused fundamental damage.

"The power armor absorbed most of the impact... the system is reporting an alarm, but it does not affect combat."

"Very well."

Sergeant Kariliang pulled the Chainsword embedded in the wall and shook off the filth upon it.

He looked toward the depths of the corridor, then glanced back toward the entrance.

"Clearance complete. Confirmed elimination of three Alien units. One brother with minor injuries."

His voice reported to Aoruisitesi through the communication channel.

On the hub platform, Aoruisitesi had already stood up; he glanced at the marks left on the edge of his shield by the Canglei Cyberk soldiers' attacks, then cast his gaze toward the massive, energy-circulating alloy gate of the Core Refining Tower below.

The main force of the Salamanders led by Huokan had already advanced to the gate, their Flamers scorching the door, while the flashes of bolters and Meltaguns flickered incessantly.

"Kariliang, clear all nodes on the upper level and ensure the corridor is secure. Prepare to assault the lower level; target—the Main Database!"

Aoruisitesi's voice returned to calm.

"Blood Angels, do not fall behind! Let the brothers below see who truly is the Sharp Blade that tears out the enemy's heart!"

Inside the Saiboke Yuanqu.

"You sons of Tallarn! It is our turn! Avenge our fallen brothers! Sweep away all the Alien iron scrap on the perimeter for me!"

The Tallarn captain's hoarse voice rang out over the communication channel, his white headscarf stained with sweat and splattered oil.

The barrel of the Laser Gun in his hand was scorching hot, and every burst of fire was accompanied by a roar.

The Tallarn Desert Raiders company he led was surging out of the scrapyard along both sides of the main corridor entrance—which the Salamanders 1st Company had torn open and which was still emitting blue smoke and molten metal—launching a charge toward the intricate metal piles, labyrinths of abandoned pipes, and low-lying auxiliary building complexes on the perimeter of the refining facility.

Their target was not the massive gate in the core area shining with energy light, but the perimeter.

It was the Cyberk reinforcement infantry emerging from every building, the Automatic Turrets spitting tongues of fire from the shadows and ruins, and those tin cans attempting to reseal the corridor or flank the Astartes' rear!

Their Task was to build a solid dam with flesh and blood and lasers for the sons of gods ahead, isolating those annoying "iron scraps."
