Chapter 772: Occupying the Cyberk Zone (6)

~7 min read 1,259 words

"Fire support team! Left flank! That gun emplacement! Knock it out for me!"

The Tallarn captain pointed to the top of a half-collapsed metal shed on the left, where a twin-linked Energy Cannon was frantically pouring blue beams downward, suppressing a platoon attempting to advance.

"Acknowledged! Captain!"

The leader of the Heavy Bolter team, a veteran with a full beard, roared.

"Hammer! Set up the gun! Target the gun emplacement to the upper left! Blow it to pieces for me!"

Two Tallarn soldiers roared as they mounted the heavy Bolter onto the scorching metal ruins, while a third soldier quickly loaded the ammunition belt.

The muzzle spat tongues of fire, and large-caliber shells flew toward that gun emplacement!

"Clang! Clang! Clang! Boom!"

Deep pits were gouged into the turret's thick armor, and sparks flew everywhere.

Several shells luckily drilled into the firing port, and muffled explosions and short bursts of electrical sparks came from within.

The turret's rate of fire dropped significantly.

"Good job! Infantry platoon! Charge! Clear that area!"

The Tallarn captain roared over the communication channel.

"For the Emperor! For Tallarn! Charge!"

A platoon of Tallarn soldiers took advantage of the fire suppression, hunching over and using twisted metal beams and abandoned cargo crates as cover to quickly push forward.

Red beams from Laser Guns shot toward the shed's windows and potential firing ports.

"Zzz-wum—!"

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

Greeting them were dense energy beams and kinetic projectiles fired from inside the shed.

The two Tallarn soldiers in the lead were instantly struck by several energy beams.

The Bulletproof Armor on one man's chest was melted through, blue smoke rose from the charred hole, and he collapsed without even a groan.

The other was hit in the thigh by a kinetic projectile; the entire leg was nearly torn off, blood sprayed wildly, and he fell to the ground screaming.

"Medic!"

Someone in the rear ranks shrieked.

"Suppress! Suppressive fire!"

The Tallarn Platoon Leader roared while firing his Laser Gun frantically at the windows.

Other Tallarn soldiers also roared as they opened fire, the Laser Beams striking the outer wall of the shed and burning hole after hole into it.

"Tin can! Taste this!"

A Tallarn soldier leaned out from behind cover and threw a Fragmentation Grenade.

The grenade traced an arc and flew through a broken window.

"Boom!"

A violent explosion erupted from inside the shed, and flames and thick smoke gushed from the gaps in the doors and windows.

The sound of gunfire from within stopped abruptly.

"Move!"

The Tallarn Platoon Leader charged in first.

Inside was a mess; shattered mechanical parts and the charred remains of Cyberk soldiers were scattered everywhere, along with the mangled, bloody corpses of some Tallarn soldiers.

"Son of a..."

The Platoon Leader spat out a mouthful of bloody saliva and cursed under his breath.

"Check the corners! Don't be careless!"

On the other side, the battle was even more brutal.

A squad of Tallarn soldiers attempted to seize an intersection controlling several secondary pipelines, but they encountered resistance from Cyberk soldiers.

"Watch out! Blue-white! Energy beams!"

A sharp-eyed Tallarn soldier had just shouted.

"Zzz-wum—!"

An energy beam shot from the top of a towering, abandoned cooling tower, instantly burning through the skull of the soldier who had shouted.

This Tallarn soldier fell onto the metal pipes nearby with a "thud."

"Sniper! Tower top!"

The Tallarn squad leader roared, pointing to the heights.

The Tallarn soldiers immediately turned their guns, and dense Laser Beams shot toward the top of the cooling tower.

The Laser Beams only left scorch marks on the metal structure at the top of the tower.

The blue-white figure moved between the steel frames at the top of the tower, and the center of its palm lit up with a charging glow once again.

"Fire the grenade!"

The squad leader roared into the Communication Device.

A soldier carrying a Grenade Launcher had just leaned out from behind cover, attempting to aim.

"Zzz-wum—!"

Another energy beam shot over! It hit the Grenade Launcher!

"Boom—!!!"

The violent secondary explosion instantly swallowed that soldier and two of his comrades nearby.

A fireball from the explosion rose into the air, and the scorching heat wave and lethal shrapnel swept across half the intersection.

Screams and the sound of human bodies being torn apart were mixed into the roar of the explosion.

"Damn Aliens!"

The squad leader looked at his brother, who had instantly turned into a charred wreck, his eyes bloodshot, almost spitting blood.

More Cyberk soldiers swarmed out from the intersection's passageway, their Energy Weapons spitting tongues of fire, pressing forward step by step.

The surviving Tallarn soldiers were pinned behind several pieces of wreckage, suffering heavy casualties, and were on the verge of being surrounded and annihilated.

"Captain! Requesting support at the intersection! We are pinned down! There are special Alien bastards! We have suffered heavy losses!"

The squad leader's voice rang out over the communication channel with a desperate, sobbing tone.

"Hold on!"

The Tallarn captain's heart was bleeding, but he knew he could not lose his composure.

"Mortar Team! Coordinates D17! Rapid fire! Cover the cooling tower area! Firepower Platoon! Advance and suppress them! Take back the intersection!"

"Thump! Thump! Thump!"

The light Mortar Team deployed in the rear responded immediately, and the dull sounds of firing rang out.

Seconds later, the top of the cooling tower and the surrounding area were covered in the fire and shrapnel of explosions!

Although it might not directly hit the agile Canglei Cyberk soldiers, the fierce suppressive fire forced him to stop his precise sniping for the moment.

"For the Emperor! For our fallen brothers! Charge with me!"

The Firepower Platoon Platoon Leader, a burly man with a scar on his face, roared as he leaped out of cover, his Laser Gun firing continuously as he strode toward the intersection!

The soldiers behind him let out a roar and followed closely, laser beams shooting toward the swarming Cyberk soldiers!

There were also Tallarn soldiers operating Stubbers, strafing the positions where the Cyberk soldiers were located.

"Da-da-da-da!"

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

"Zzz-wum—!"

Bolter rounds and light beams crisscrossed in the air.

Tallarn soldiers kept falling, their blood staining the cold metal ground red.

One soldier was hit in the chest by an energy beam; the massive impact sent him flying, slamming him into a pipe, his chest armor melted through, and it was clear he would not survive.

Another soldier's arm was severed by a kinetic projectile, the stump a bloody mess; he gritted his teeth, holding his Laser Gun with his remaining hand to continue firing until he was riddled with bullets.

But the Tallarns' grit and fire of vengeance sustained them!

The Firepower Platoon Platoon Leader rushed to the squad that had just suffered heavy losses, his Laser Gun killing a Cyberk soldier approaching that squad.

"Brother! Are you still alive?" the Platoon Leader roared.

"Still... still breathing!"

The squad leader poked his head out from behind the wreckage, his face covered in blood and gunpowder smoke, one eye seemingly injured, but the Laser Gun in his hand was still firing.

"Good! Establish a defensive line! Hold this intersection! Don't let a single tin can through!"

The Platoon Leader had the arriving Tallarn soldiers mount their Stubbers on overturned metal crates, strafing into the depths of the passageway.

The bloody battle at the intersection lasted for several minutes, with men falling every second.

The Tallarn soldiers used their lives and blood to fight for control of this metal ruin inch by inch.
