Chapter 81: True Guerrilla Warfare
Tian Jian is a member of the guerrilla unit in the Giant Cedar District. When the Orcs invaded the Outer City, his unit ran out of ammunition shortly after due to logistical issues and other problems. Under the leadership of his Captain, they fled to the Giant Cedar District in the Outer City and began to wage guerrilla warfare against the Orcs.
"Captain, there aren't many survivors in the Giant Cedar District who have been captured by the Orcs, but the Beast Race has dispatched quite a few troops here. Just today, our scouting squad encountered four Orc Search Squads. They are searching for survivors; should we relocate? Should we avoid the Orcs' search?" Tian Jian walked back to the guerrilla unit's position and found his Captain—Xia Dijing.
Xia Dijing pondered for a moment and said, "We currently have over 500 survivors here, but only about 70 soldiers. Large-scale relocation is unrealistic. Besides, someone contacted us this morning wanting to rendezvous with us."
After a pause, Xia Dijing instructed Tian Jian, "Take a squad and check how far the Orc Search Squads are from us. If they reach a certain distance, you will need to lure them away."
Tian Jian saluted and said, "Don't worry, Captain. I definitely won't let these Orcs find us here."
Having said that, Tian Jian went out, called his reconnaissance squad, and left.
Tian Jian and his squad members began observing the surroundings from the top of a dilapidated factory. Through night-vision goggles, they spotted a group of over a hundred people heading their way, but in front of them was an Orc Search Squad.
"Damn, they're about to run into the Orc Search Squad!" Tian Jian said anxiously to his squad members.
"But we are too far away from them. If we try to warn them, our position will be locked onto by the Orcs, which might lead to our guerrilla unit in the rear being discovered. We aren't gods; we can't save everyone," a squad member said, gripping Tian Jian's shoulder to persuade him.
"I know, it's just that those survivors are too unlucky to have run into an Orc Search Squad," Tian Jian said in a low tone.
Just then, Tian Jian picked up the night-vision goggles and saw a scene that overturned his worldview.
He saw a group of muscular men wearing red bandanas, either shirtless or wearing vests, skillfully decapitating the Orc Search Squad and snapping their necks.
The survivors, as if they had already grown accustomed to it, simply continued on their way.
The search squad, composed of 50 Orcs, was completely wiped out in just over a minute. Although the Orcs in the back raised the large guns in their hands, they were shot down by beams of light emitted from the strange-looking guns held by those muscular men.
"This is too strong," Tian Jian couldn't help but mutter to himself.
The surrounding teammates heard Tian Jian's words and, thinking he was talking about the Orcs, sighed and echoed his sentiment.
"Although the Orcs' physical fitness isn't considered very strong—we can defeat them by summoning our Awakened Back Spirits—they usually outnumber us, and the weapons in their hands are very powerful. If we take a shot without protection, we're basically done for."
"That's right, and our equipment, ammunition, and logistics were never delivered on schedule. It's always like this, and the higher-ups don't care about the situation. If our logistics had kept up, the Outer City wouldn't have been breached by the Orcs."
Seeing that his teammates had clearly misunderstood his meaning, Tian Jian hurriedly said, "Look, in that survivor group, there is a group of muscular men. They are as strong as the Orcs, but far better. That Orc Search Squad just now has already been completely wiped out."
"What?"
"Come on, give me the night-vision goggles!"
"Damn, what kind of monsters are these!"
Several teammates scrambled to grab the night-vision goggles. Although they didn't see the battle scene of those muscular men, the carnage at the scene said it all; after all, they rarely saw situations where Orcs were dealt with so easily.
"This must be the survivor group the Captain said was coming to rendezvous with us," Tian Jian recalled what the Captain had told him earlier that day and said.
"If they are this strong, why do they need to rendezvous with us?"
"Exactly, with the strength of these people, self-preservation shouldn't be a problem."
Tian Jian shook his head. "I'm not sure. Let's go down and meet them, and take them to see our Captain while we're at it."
On the subsequent road to the Giant Cedar District, the survivors' speed became significantly faster. They encountered two more Orc Patrol Squads, which were also crushed and eliminated by the Catachan muscular men.
These survivors went from initial shock to being filled with respect for these muscular men who called themselves Catachan Warriors.
Although they didn't know where this place called Catachan was, nor did they know who the great Emperor they spoke of was, there was no doubt that these people were very strong.
"Friends ahead! We are the guerrilla unit from the Giant Cedar District. Are you the group coming to rendezvous with us?" At this moment, several soldiers walked out of a dark corner, their weapons slung behind their backs.
"Yes, we are here to rendezvous with you. Someone from our side met with you during the day today!" Seeing the Giant Cedar District guerrilla unit appear, Han Li's face lit up, and he shouted.
After the members of both sides who had met earlier confirmed each other's identities, they led Han Li and his group to the place where the guerrilla unit was staying.
Upon seeing Tian Jian return with a group of survivors, Xia Dijing asked suspiciously, "Are they the survivor group that contacted us?"
"Yes, I am Han Li, the captain of this group." Han Li stepped out of the group, shook hands with Xia Dijing, and said.
"And who are they?" Xia Dijing asked, noticing the group of muscular men who stood out in the crowd.
"They are... Catachan Warriors, uh, loyal to the Emperor," Han Li said awkwardly, explaining their identity. "Although we don't know where they come from, we can be sure that they are here to help us. Moreover, their strength is immense; even though they haven't awakened their Back Spirits, their physical fitness is ridiculously strong."
Xia Dijing nodded, set aside his doubts for the moment, and walked up to the group of Catachan Warriors. "Thank you for extending a helping hand to assist us survivors of the Outer City."
"You should thank the Emperor for His mercy, remember that!" the muscular man wearing a hat said directly, his voice loud enough for all the surrounding survivors to hear.
"Now, tell me how many soldiers you have. We are going to start giving those damn Orcs a little gift," the muscular man in the hat said to Xia Dijing in a booming voice.
Hearing that these Catachan Warriors wanted to teach those Orcs a lesson, Xia Dijing felt a bitter pang in his heart, but he still spoke up.
"Our numbers are simply too few. There are still many Orcs in the Outer City, and it is somewhat difficult to teach them a lesson."
The muscular man in the hat revealed a slight smile. "Damn it, we didn't say we were going to strike the main Orc force head-on. Bring your men tomorrow and let you bastards see what true guerrilla warfare is."
