Chapter 861: Assault on Kamirat Outpost (1)
Just then, a greater commotion arrived.
That most massive giant, who had initially jumped onto the loading platform and crushed Carlson to death with one foot, was walking toward the plaza, surrounded by several equally tall guards.
Wherever he passed, all the White Scars Space Marines slightly bowed their heads in salute.
Jaghatai's gaze swept across the chaotic battlefield and finally landed on this group of miners huddled in the corner.
He stopped his steps and turned on his external loudspeaker once again.
This time, his voice was even more resonant, clearly entering the ears of every miner.
"Fellows of Kamirat!"
All the miners trembled subconsciously, raised their heads, and looked at that giant leader.
"Look around you!"
Jaghatai waved his massive arm, pointing at the corpses of those Fengqi soldiers and overseers.
"The chains that oppressed you are being shattered! The tyrants who enslaved you are being judged!"
His gaze swept across the crowd.
"The suffering you have endured has been known! The injustice you have borne is about to end!"
He hammered his chest plate heavily, emitting a dull metallic clanging sound, the golden Double-headed Eagle Emblem shining brightly in the dim light.
"I, Jaghatai, son of the Emperor! I come in the name of the Human Lord, the Emperor's ideal! I do not bring destruction, but rebirth! I do not bring fear, but liberation!"
"From this moment on! You are no longer slaves of the Feng Qi Xing Alliance! You shall be free citizens under the rule of the Xiuluo Holy Star Alliance! Accept the protection and grace of the Emperor!"
Although the concepts of the "Emperor" remained vague, words like "free citizens," "liberation," and "rebirth," combined with the reality that the Fengqi ruling power before their eyes had been destroyed, began to produce a chemical reaction, fermenting within the hearts of these miners.
Khan Jaghatai saw the hesitation and disbelief in their eyes.
He knew that long-term enslavement could not be resolved in a day and required more practical actions.
He turned around and gave an order to a Space Marine beside him.
"Notify the logistics troops to prioritize the delivery of clean water, food, and medical supplies to the gathering point. Execute immediately."
"Yes, Khan!"
The order was quickly relayed down.
Not long after, several Valkyrie Transports broke through the clouds and landed in a relatively safe area.
Squads of Tallarn soldiers began to unload standardized supply crates from the transports.
The White Scars warriors were responsible for security, while the Tallarn soldiers began to organize order.
"Everyone! Line up! Do not crowd! There is enough for everyone!"
A Tallarn sergeant held a megaphone and shouted in as calm a tone as possible.
Crates of compressed energy bars, barrels of clean water, and basic medical kits were opened.
When the first bold miner, at the gesture of a Tallarn soldier, tremblingly took an energy bar emitting the aroma of grain and a small cup of clean water, he almost could not believe his eyes.
He took a cautious bite, and the long-lost taste of food made him almost shed tears.
As the clean water went down his throat, the sensation of it having no strange odor brought relief to his parched, burning throat.
"It's real... water... food..."
He muttered to himself, his voice choked with sobs.
More and more miners began to tentatively walk toward the distribution point.
They looked at those soldiers; although they were still afraid of those giants, these soldiers distributing food and water seemed... not so terrifying?
Duke was also squeezed into the crowd, and he received his own share.
He held the cup of clean water, looking at his own aged, haggard, and dirt-stained face reflected on the surface of the water, then looked at Jaghatai, who was directing in the distance, and those white giants guarding the surroundings.
He finally understood the meaning of "differential treatment."
To the oppressors, these powerful warriors were cold reapers bringing destruction and death.
But to them, the oppressed, what they brought was food, clean water, order, and a promise named "liberation" and "hope."
Tears slid from old Duke's dry, stinging eye corners, mixed with the black ash on his face, and dripped into the cup in his hands.
These tears were for the dead Tuoke, for the countless companions who had died just like them, and also for this sudden, unbelievable... rebirth.
The battle in the low orbit of Kamirat was nearing its end.
The once sizable Fengqi patrol fleet was now nothing but twisted, burning wreckage, floating in the cold void.
The White Scars' ships were conducting final "cleanup" work, using secondary batteries to snipe at larger pieces of wreckage that still had power signatures or might contain survivors, ensuring absolute destruction.
On the bridge of the Fengchi, Bahan stood before the command seat.
His gaze swept across the increasingly sparse combat signals on the main screen.
"Report, Company Commander Bahan, the orbital area is confirmed cleared. No enemy escape pod signals detected."
Bahan nodded slightly, his voice spreading throughout the entire fleet via the bridge communication device.
"Well done, brothers of the White Scars. But the hunt is not over. Target, Kamirat Outpost Cluster! All ships, regroup, with the Fengchi as the core, advance toward the nearest No. 1 Main Outpost! Crush those turtle shells!"
"For the Khan! For the Emperor!"
The White Scars fleet's ships with light damage quickly moved forward, while those with heavier damage followed after making slight adjustments, and the entire formation flew toward the outpost in the distance, which was composed of several space stations, weapon platforms, and sensor arrays of varying sizes.
Kamilate No. 1 Main Outpost, "Watchtower."
Inside the outpost, it had long since fallen into chaos.
Red alarm lights rotated, bathing the corridors in a blood-red hue.
The electronic synthesized voice repeatedly broadcast the highest-level combat alert.
Inside the command center located at the core of the outpost, the outpost person-in-charge, Travis, had a pale face, and sweat beads kept rolling down from his forehead, soaking his originally crisp Feng Qi Xing Alliance officer uniform.
On the main screen, the footage transmitted back from the external surveillance cameras was clearly displayed.
That fleet which had destroyed the patrol fleet, painted with the golden Double-headed Eagle Emblem, was flying toward his outpost.
And the signals belonging to the Star Alliance patrol fleet had all turned into the gray that represented destruction.
"They... how could they dare?!"
Travis roared in disbelief.
"That is an entire patrol fleet! Who on earth are they?!"
"A-all defense platforms, fire at full power! You absolutely cannot let them get close! Immediately send a Highest Priority distress signal to Feng Rao Starport! Repeat the transmission! Tell them we are under heavy attack by an unidentified force! The patrol fleet has been completely wiped out! Requesting immediate reinforcements!"
"Sir! The enemy's electronic interference is extremely strong! Communications are severely suppressed, and sending the signal is extremely difficult!"
The Communications Officer's fingers operated on the Control Console, attempting to stabilize the signal filled with static.
"I don't care! Use maximum power! Send it out!"
Travis bellowed.
Just at this moment, the vanguard of the White Scars Fleet had entered the maximum range of the outpost's defensive fire.
"Fire! Fire!"
The turrets and Missile Fashijing outside the outpost spat out angry tongues of fire, and energy beams and whistling missiles flew toward the incoming fleet.
However, the White Scars' ships displayed their specialty in maneuverability to evade, and the occasional energy beam that struck a hull was effectively blocked by the Void Shield.
