Chapter 860: Airborne Drop on Kamirate (3)

~6 min read 1,102 words

Kamirate, Third Mining Zone, edge of the central plaza.

The miners huddled together, every dirt-stained face filled with fear and bewilderment.

The scene before them exceeded their most absurd nightmares.

Those arrogant overseers, those well-equipped Fengqi garrison troops who usually threw their weight around, were currently being ruthlessly Harvested by those white giants who had suddenly descended from the sky.

Blood and fire dyed the plaza they knew all too well.

The air was a mixture of thick gunpowder smoke, ozone, and the stench of flesh being scorched by high heat.

The old miner Duke clutched his tattered hem tightly, eyes wide, watching not far away as a Fengqi soldier was cut in half at the waist by a white giant using some kind of rotating weapon, viscera and blue blood splashing all over the ground.

His stomach churned violently, and he nearly vomited.

Several young miners beside him were shaking all over from terror.

"What... what are they..."

A young miner's voice trembled so much it was barely audible.

"I don't know... are they devils... here to punish us?"

Another voice carried a sobbing tone.

"Could it be... another Star Alliance? Here to fight Fengqi?"

Someone also produced a faint, unbelievable guess.

But regardless of what they were, fear overwhelmed everything.

They saw with their own eyes that those giants were impervious to blades and bullets, possessed infinite strength, and killed like ants.

These miners were terrified that if they moved even slightly, they would attract the attention of those terrifying beings and end up with the same fate as the overseers and the garrison.

Just then, a heavy sound of footsteps came from the side, drawing closer and closer!

The miners shrank back in fear, closing their eyes in despair, waiting for the end of the world to arrive.

The footsteps stopped in front of the ore pile where they were hiding.

A voice, slightly lowered on purpose, sounded through some kind of amplification device.

"Humans of this place. Raise your heads."

The miners raised their heads in terror.

What came into view was a white giant standing before them!

He was more burly than the tallest person they had ever seen!

The heavy Power Armor was stained with fresh blood and marks from Energy Rifle hits, and the lightning emblem on the shoulder pad looked extremely glaring at this moment.

The massive Chainsword in his hand, still dripping with blue blood, radiated a murderous aura that made their souls tremble.

But strangely, the giant did not raise his weapon.

His glowing red eyepiece swept over the huddled miners, yet revealed no intent to kill.

Duke's heart was about to jump out of his throat; he bit his teeth hard to keep from crying out.

The giant spoke again, with a hint of... programmatic notification?

"You. Stay in place. Do not move."

He extended a blood-stained gauntlet, pointing at the area where they were hiding.

"Chaos is ending. Wait for instructions."

The miners stared at him blankly, completely unable to understand the meaning behind these words.

Stay? Wait to die?

Perhaps seeing their extreme fear and bewilderment, the giant paused, his helmet's built-in translator organizing another language they could understand, and he spoke again, his voice raised slightly to ensure everyone could hear.

"Your. Slave. Period. Ends."

He pointed with his finger at the twisted corpse of an overseer not far away on the ground, then pointed at the Fengqi soldiers who were being chased and slaughtered by the White Scars Space Marines.

"Oppressors. Cleared."

Then, he struck his chest plate, which bore the Double-Headed Eagle, heavily with his gauntlet.

"We. Emperor. Angel. Bring. Liberation. Order."

Emperor? Angel? Liberation?

These words struck the numb hearts of the miners.

They could not understand who the "Emperor" was, but the word "liberation" entered the depths of their long-frozen consciousness.

The giant seemed unskilled at, or perhaps disdained, providing more complex explanations.

Seeing the miners still looking dull, he said no more, only emphasizing again.

"Stay in place. Wait. Moving. Dangerous."

Having said that, he turned abruptly, and the Chainsword roared once more.

Because he saw not far away, several more Fengqi soldiers were attempting to put up a desperate struggle behind a broken bunker.

The white giant rushed over quickly, his speed completely inconsistent with his massive size.

In the next few seconds, the sounds of Bolter fire, the sound of the Chainsword tearing through metal and flesh, and the brief screams of Fengqi soldiers came from that direction.

The miners stared blankly as the giant left, then looked around.

They noticed that those white giants, while terrifying when killing, seemed to... really not actively attack any of the miners!

Once, a Fengqi soldier who had been stunned tried to rush toward the group of miners, seemingly wanting to take hostages or simply create chaos.

But before he could run a few steps, he was blown into fragments by a Bolter shot from an unknown source, the splashing blood and flesh landing several meters away from the miners.

There was also an overseer who usually took pleasure in abusing miners; at this moment, he was driven insane by fear, howling and waving an iron rod as he rushed toward the miners, seemingly wanting to drag a few down with him.

As a result, just as he rushed into the miners' area, a White Scars Space Marine suddenly appeared in front of him.

The Space Marine didn't even use a weapon, just flew into a kick!

"Bang!" A dull thud sounded!

The overseer flew backward at a speed several times faster than when he had charged over, slamming into a metal support pillar; his entire chest cavity collapsed, and he died on the spot.

Yet the nearest miners were not even touched by a single corner of their clothing.

This differential treatment, this deliberate avoidance of harm, was gradually noticed by some of the bolder miners.

"They... they seem to... not be hitting us?"

A young miner said in a trembling, low voice; he had once been a friend of Ake's foolish apprentice.

"Liberation... they just said... liberation?"

Another miner muttered to himself, trying to understand the meaning of this word.

Duke watched everything before him, his chaotic brain slowly beginning to function.

His gaze turned toward the direction where old Tuoke had fallen in the distance... from his dry eye corners, something seemed to be welling up.

An extremely complex emotion surged within his parched heart.

Fear still existed, but a faint glimmer of hope began to poke its head out.

Could it be... could these terrifying giants... really be here to...?
