Chapter 908: Sanpimu Star (1)
Sanpimu Star Orbital Fleet.
The air inside the starship always carried a scent of over-recycled air, mixed with the aura of soldiers from different races.
Kadan Woke had been serving on this orbital Frigate for seven standard years, yet he still could not fully get used to this smell.
"Woke! What are you spacing out for?"
A palm covered in fine blue scales slapped onto Woke's shoulder, causing Woke to stagger.
Woke knew it was Torik, his Sarahan comrade, without even turning his head.
The Sarahan race was known for their strength, and also for their lack of restraint.
"Thinking about when this air will smell like a place where humans belong."
Torik adjusted his stance, emitting his characteristic rumbling laugh, his six eyes blinking simultaneously.
"Forget it, Fengqi. The air on your planet is what you call foul; it's damp and full of microorganisms."
This was a common joke among soldiers of the Feng Qi Xing Alliance.
As soldiers from different worlds, they always loved to tease each other about the environments of their home planets.
Torik came from the arid Sarahan planet, where the atmosphere was so thin it was almost non-existent; the Sarahan had evolved an internal circulatory respiratory system and were exceptionally sensitive to external odors.
"At least we don't shed scales just because we smell something strange."
Woke countered, pointing to a few subtle flakes on his shoulder armor.
"Cut it out, the patrol Task is over, get ready for the shift change."
Torik looked at his shed scales and said dismissively.
Walking through the Bridge corridor, the two saluted several Fengqi officers on duty.
"Heard the command center transferred another batch of recruits, half of them are Psionics."
Woke nodded.
In the year he had served on Sanpimu Star, Woke had already grown accustomed to the high proportion of Psionic soldiers here.
As one of the key military fortresses in the Seventh Star Sector, Sanpimu Star was not only well-equipped but also home to many Psionic warriors.
After finishing the shift change, Woke and Torik headed toward the living quarters.
Through the observation window, Sanpimu Star rotated slowly below.
The surface of this military fortress planet was covered with countless defensive fortifications, orbital turrets, Missile Fashijing, Energy Barrier generators, and those faint, looming planet-level shield nodes.
Seen from space, it did not look like a naturally formed planet, but rather a fully armed combat machine.
"Every time I see this sight, I feel as small as a speck of dust."
Woke said softly.
Torik leaned close to the observation window, his six eyes focusing simultaneously.
"Yeah, but this 'speck of dust' can blast an asteroid to pieces with one shot. Know why the Seventh Star Sector has to keep a main force stationed here?"
"Because this is the heart of the Seventh Star Sector?"
"Because this is the facade of the Feng Qi Xing Alliance; I heard the command center believes the next large-scale offensive by the Canaan Star Alliance will start from here."
Arriving at the living quarters, soldiers of various races were mixed together.
Woke saw a group of Keleige playing their favorite domino game, a few Xierweien were meditating in the corner, and there was even a pair of Gamma mutants dining.
This was the daily life of the Sanpimu Star garrison: soldiers from hundreds of worlds, with different skin colors, different body types, and different habits, yet all wearing the Star Alliance's deep purple uniforms, with the Seventh Star Sector emblem printed on their right shoulders.
Woke and Torik took their meal trays and joined the queue.
Today's main course was a type of synthetic protein block, which could have seasonings and nutrients added according to the needs of different races.
After the two found empty seats and sat down, they noticed some commotion at the other end of the cafeteria.
A group of recruits stood there stiffly, looking around at the surrounding environment, at a loss.
Judging by their demeanor and overly neat uniforms, these were likely the newly transferred soldiers Torik had mentioned.
Torik pointed his fork at a Three-Eyed Fengqi among the recruits.
"Look over there, that tall one, Fengqi, he's a rookie."
I looked in the direction he pointed and noticed another recruit next to the Fengqi recruit.
"The one next to him is a Taili; I heard that forty percent of the people from their planet are natural Psionics."
Torik rumbled as he drank a large gulp of thick soup.
"Taili? Then you have to be careful. Last time a Terra recruit went Out of Control and burned out all the electronic equipment on the entire floor."
As we were talking, that Taili recruit suddenly turned his head to look in the direction of Woke and the other.
He had a pair of unusually bright eyes, with pupils like liquid metal, and walked straight toward Woke and the other.
"Uh, Torik, he seems to be coming toward us."
Torik sat up straight, assuming a defensive posture.
The Taili recruit stopped in front of Woke's table and nodded in greeting.
"Sorry to bother you, I am the newly transferred Tailan Suonisi. May I ask where to get the nutritional additives? The signage system here is a bit different from the base where I trained."
Torik relaxed and pointed to the counter on the other side of the cafeteria.
"Over there, in the area with the green indicator light. You need to scan your ID tag to get the formula that meets your physiological needs."
"Thank you very much."
The Taili recruit nodded again but did not leave.
His gaze fell on the service medal worn on Woke's chest, and he asked.
"Did you participate in the retreat operation at the Fengqiu Fangqu?"
Woke looked up at Tailan and asked.
"Yes, how did you..."
"My uncle served in the Fourth Fleet during that operation; he said that if not for the precise fire support from the orbital frigate fleet, at least three thousand more people would not have been able to evacuate."
Torik snorted and said.
"Kadan received a Star Alliance Medal of Valor for that operation. Even though he was just operating communication equipment on the Bridge."
Woke shook his head awkwardly.
"Don't listen to him. We just did what was expected of us."
Tailan's metallic pupils contracted slightly.
"Regardless, it's nice to meet you both. I've been assigned to the communications department and start my post tomorrow."
After Tailan left, Torik let out a whistle.
"Communications department? Bullshit. Tali Psionics are always assigned to intelligence analysis or psionic warfare departments. This kid is not simple."
Upon hearing Torik's words, Woke could not help but nod in agreement.
Most people are assigned here, but the Taili usually have more choices.
Their psionic power makes them highly valued in the Star Alliance military.
After finishing dinner, Woke and Torik went their separate ways.
He was going to the fitness area to maintain his "Sarahan glory muscles," while Woke decided to go to the observation deck to relax.
