Chapter 910: Sanpimu Star (3)
On the way back to the residential area, Woke encountered that Tali recruit, Tailan Suonisi.
He stood before an observation window, gazing at the starry sky outside.
"Suonisi?"
Woke greeted him tentatively.
Tailan gave a slight start, turned his head to look at Woke, and replied.
"Woke, right?"
"Are you still adjusting?"
Tailan's metallic-textured pupils contracted slightly.
"Still adjusting. The energy flow here... is very complex. There is a lot of interference."
As a non-Psionic, it was difficult for Woke to fully understand what Tailan was feeling.
But Woke knew that Psionics were particularly sensitive to the energy fields in their environment.
"The ships in orbit and the defense systems below generate a massive amount of energy; it might take time to get used to it."
Tailan turned toward the observation window and pointed to a spot on the surface of Sanpimu Star.
"The energy signal there is the strongest, like multiple sources converging together. What place is that?"
Woke looked in the direction Tailan was pointing, and his heart skipped a beat.
The area he pointed to was precisely the location where Commander Kemake mentioned the Psionic Amplifier Array might be.
"It might be some energy station or Command Center; there are many important facilities on the planet's surface."
Tailan's intuition told him that Woke was evading the question, but out of politeness, he did not point it out.
"I should go report; it was nice to see you again, Woke."
Returning to the living quarters, Torik was already there, exercising in front of a small fitness machine.
The Sarahan people needed to maintain a certain intensity of physical activity daily, otherwise their muscles would atrophy rapidly.
"Heard you were chatting with the new commander?"
Torik asked while doing presses.
Tuoke took off his coat.
"Ran into him by chance. Commander Kemake, the one newly transferred."
Torik put down the equipment, his six eyes widening.
"Kemake? Purple skin, scar on his left forehead?"
"Yes, how did you know?"
"He is a legendary figure in the Star Alliance Special Operations Department. He has participated in over twenty behind-enemy-lines operations and has received the Star Alliance Highest Medal of Valor three times. I heard he specializes in handling... special problems."
"Special problems?"
"You know, the kind of things regular troops can't handle. Psionic threats, subspace anomalies, that sort of thing. Why would he come to us?"
"I don't know, but I feel things might not be as they appear on the surface."
Torik grunted in agreement.
"On Sanpimu Star, things are never simple. Remember our Sarahan proverb: the quieter it is, the more dangerous it is."
The next few hours were routine work and rest.
Woke checked the Communication Device, attended a brief department meeting, and then returned to his own rest cabin.
The Frigate soldiers' living space was compact but fully functional, with each soldier having a private sleeping pod and a small personal storage area.
Lying in the rest cabin, Woke checked the Star Alliance news via his personal terminal.
The situation on the front lines had become more tense, with the Canaan Star Alliance and the Ash Star Alliance increasing the frequency of their probing attacks in the Western Theater.
Analysts predicted that large-scale conflict might break out within a few months, potentially spreading to the Southern Theater.
This explained why Sanpimu Star was constantly strengthening its fortifications and why more soldiers with special skills were being transferred here.
Just as he was preparing to rest, Woke's Communication Device rang.
It was a message from the department commander, Kemake.
"Woke, report to the Seventh Analysis Room at 0800 tomorrow morning. Bring daily equipment. No special preparation needed."
Woke frowned.
The Seventh Analysis Room was not a place regular soldiers frequented; it was the location of the ship's high-level intelligence and analysis department.
Why was he being summoned there?
After replying to confirm the message, Woke tried to fall asleep, but his thoughts were in turmoil.
The unexpected conversation with Commander Kemake, Tailan's perception of the powerful energy source, Torik's revelation about Kemake's background, and the summons that had just arrived.
Waking up in the morning, the Dawn light simulated by the ship's artificial environment had just begun to brighten.
Woke followed his daily routine to wash up, dressed neatly, and then went to the dining area to eat breakfast.
Torik was already there, piling his tray high with the high-protein food unique to the Sarahan people.
"Heard you're going to the Seventh Analysis Room?"
News traveled really fast.
On a warship, there was almost nothing that could be kept secret for long.
"Reporting at 0800, don't know what for."
Torik's six eyes narrowed simultaneously.
"Be careful, Tuoke. That is the domain of Psionics and intelligence personnel. For us regular soldiers, it might... not be very comfortable."
Woke understood what he meant.
Places where Psionics gathered often had a different atmosphere, with energy flows and psychological pressure that were different from other areas on the ship.
Non-Psionics sometimes feel uncomfortable or oppressed.
"I'll be careful, it's just a routine meeting, probably related to the newly transferred Psionic, requiring cooperation from the communications department."
Torik grunted dismissively, but said nothing more.
After finishing breakfast, Woke arrived at the Seventh Analysis Room ten minutes early.
This area is located in the core of the Frigate and requires additional security clearance to enter.
After I scanned my ID badge, the blast door slid open slowly.
The environment inside is completely different from the rest of the ship.
The lighting is softer, and the walls are covered in a material that absorbs energy and sound.
Woke immediately felt a strange sense of oppression; Officer Kemake was already there, talking to several personnel wearing technical officer uniforms.
Woke noticed that Tailan Suonisi was also present, standing to one side.
Kemake noticed Woke and nodded in greeting.
"Woke, arrived on time, come over here."
Woke walked over and saluted.
"Officer."
"Relax, soldier, this is Suonisi, you have met. These two are Technical Officer Book and Psionic expert Zera."
Kemake pointed to the other two.
Book is a Keleige, wearing thick glasses; Zera is a Fengqi, female, and her Third Eye is flickering with energy ripples.
The way she sized Woke up made Woke feel a hint of discomfort.
Kemake explained to the others.
"Woke works in the communications department and is very familiar with the ship's and ground-to-ship communication systems; we need Woke's professional knowledge and experience."
"At your service, Officer, what is the specific Task?"
Kemake exchanged a look with Zera, then said.
"We are testing a new type of communication protocol that can better resist the interference frequencies commonly used by the Reaper. We need you to provide feedback during actual operation."
This explanation was reasonable, but intuition told Woke that this was not the whole truth.
Why was it necessary to conduct this in the Seventh Analysis Room? Why was a Psionic like Tailan needed to be present?
But after all, I am only a soldier, and obeying orders is my duty.
"Understood, Officer."
For the next hour, Woke cooperated with Technical Officer Book to test various communication equipment and protocols.
Tailan Suonisi and Zera conducted some kind of Psionic calibration, and the two would occasionally whisper technical terms to each other, most of which Woke could not understand.
During the process, Woke noticed some unusual details.
Zera frequently checked a portable scanner to detect energy fluctuations in the environment.
Officer Kemake contacted the outside world from time to time.
