Chapter 921: The Last Resistance of the Three-Skin Star Curtain (1)
On a Fengqi Frigate, Woke watched as the red light dots representing the enemy fleet devoured the blue light dots representing the Feng Qi Xing Alliance fleet.
"Woke! Keep the main communication line clear!"
Kemake's voice came from behind Woke.
"We need to establish contact with Fengrao Starport in the Seventh Star Sector!"
"Yes, sir!"
Woke had just witnessed a Fengqi Cruiser being torn to shreds by enemy fire less than fifty kilometers away.
Woke had never seen the ship designs of these unknown enemies, and they had already broken through the outer defensive perimeter in less than an hour.
The Bridge shook violently once again.
"Shields down to forty percent! Port thruster damaged!"
Kemake stood before the Control Console with a grave expression, analyzing the blue light of the battlefield data.
"The enemy is not any faction the Star Alliance has encountered before. Their combat power... should not be unknown."
Woke continued to maintain the communication line.
Suddenly, an emergency transmission cut into his Control Console.
"This is Jian-dun No. 7! We are under boarding attack! Repeat, we are under boarding attack! The enemy is... some kind of heavy infantry, massive in size, in green armor! Our firepower is almost ineffective! The enemy also has Psionics! And there is a Psionic master wielding a scythe!"
The transmission was filled with the roar of Bolters and screams.
Woke transferred the transmission to Kemake.
"Sir, Jian-dun No. 7 reports a boarding attack!"
Kemake took the transmission and asked in a hurried tone.
"Jian-dun No. 7, report the situation! Enemy numbers? Direction of attack?"
But by then, the transmission had been cut off.
"Damn it!"
Kemake slammed his fist onto the Control Console, then turned to Woke.
"Woke, I need you to head to the nearest 'Jian-dun No. 9' defense platform to assist them in maintaining the communication network. If these platforms fall one after another, our orbital defense will collapse completely."
"Sir? Just me?"
"The Shuttle is ready. The Jian-dun No. 9 platform has a complete communication array, but their technical officer was killed in the last round of shelling.
You are our best communications soldier, Woke. This planet needs your skills."
Woke stood at attention and saluted, replying.
"Understood, sir! I will complete the Task."
"May the light of the Star Alliance protect you, soldier. Go to the hangar now."
Ten minutes later, the small Shuttle Woke was riding in detached from the Frigate and flew toward the Jian-dun No. 9 Orbital Defense Platform.
Looking out from the porthole, countless shipwrecks floated in the void, and energy beams crisscrossed.
Woke saw an enemy warship taking on three at once, not losing the upper hand in the slightest.
"Who exactly are they?"
The pilot replied without looking back.
"Don't know, but when they board a ship, there are almost no survivors. Some say they are some kind of modified super-soldiers, impervious to blades and bullets."
The Shuttle approached the Jian-dun No. 9 platform.
The surface of the platform had obvious battle damage, but the main structure was intact.
"Preparing to dock. Good luck, Woke. Hope we can meet again."
"You too, buddy."
The Shuttle connected to the platform's docking bay.
Woke picked up his equipment case and walked into the airtight door.
The corridor was full of bullet holes and energy scorch marks, and several Fengqi soldiers were carrying the wounded.
"The new Communications Officer?"
A weary Fengqi officer walked over and said to Woke.
"I am the platform Commander Laku. Your workstation is in Zone 27. Our main communication array was damaged in the last round of attacks, and the backup system can only maintain basic functions."
"I will do my best to repair it, sir. What is the current battle situation?"
Laku's Third Eye flashed with a hint of worry.
"Terrible. At least 7 platforms have completely lost contact, and most of the others are damaged. The enemy's boarding troops... they are not ordinary soldiers. Our standard Energy Weapons cannot penetrate their armor in one shot."
A violent tremor suddenly arrived, and alarms sounded.
Laku cursed under his breath and said to Woke.
"Here it comes again! Get to your post, soldier! Keep the communications clear; this may be our only hope!"
"Yes!"
Woke rushed toward Zone 27, seeing Fengqi Psionics gathered together along the way, preparing to jointly cast defensive Psionics.
The Communication Room was relatively intact, but the main Control Console was severely damaged.
Woke immediately opened his equipment case and began repairs.
Another violent tremor occurred, stronger than the previous one.
Explosions and dense gunfire could be heard in the distance.
"They've boarded the platform!"
Woke sped up his work, and as he connected the last conduit, the main Control Console lit up again.
"This is Jian-dun No. 9 platform, communications restored, requesting battle status update!"
Woke shouted into the microphone.
Only static interference responded to him.
Woke adjusted the frequency, attempting to connect to other platforms or the fleet, but most channels had only Silence or noise.
Suddenly, an encrypted communication cut in.
"Woke? Thank the Star Alliance, you succeeded. Listen, the situation is worse than imagined.
The High Command has decided to activate the Psionic Amplifier Array; this is our Last Resort.
But it requires positioning data from all orbital platforms. Can you access the platform's main sensors?"
"Yes, sir! Accessing now... uploading data now!"
"Good. Evacuate immediately after completion. The platform may no longer be safe."
Just as Woke was about to respond, the door to the Communication Room was breached.
A giant at least two and a half meters tall stood before Woke at the doorway.
Woke instinctively drew his Pistol and fired; the energy beam left only faint scorch marks on the opponent's armor.
The giant raised a Bolter.
Woke saw the muzzle aimed at him and tried to roll away to dodge.
The next second, a bolter round pierced his armor, struck his chest, and exploded.
Intense pain swept through his entire body, and Woke felt his life fading rapidly.
In his gradually blurring vision, he saw the giant step over his body and destroy the communication Control Console with a single shot.
Then, Woke's consciousness plunged into darkness.
On the Frigate, Kemake watched the suddenly interrupted communication and knew that Woke had sacrificed himself and the Firm Shield No. 9 platform had fallen.
"Sir, we have lost contact with 10 other platforms.
Enemy boarding parties are systematically clearing our orbital defenses and conducting orbital strikes against the surface."
Kemake walked toward the tactical hologram to examine the battle situation. The fleet of Sanpimu Star had lost more than half its strength, and the orbital defenses were collapsing.
But scans from the surface showed that the Psionic Amplifier Array was ready.
"Connect me to the Sanpimu Star surface command; it is time to make a choice."
The figures of several high-ranking officers appeared on the hologram.
"Kemake, what is the status of the orbital defenses?"
"Collapsing, Excellency. The enemy... is too powerful. It does not look like a fleet attack from an unknown force; it is very likely the Canaan Star Alliance..."
A high-ranking officer interrupted.
"Psionic unit reports that the Amplifier Array has finished charging. But more time is needed to precisely locate the enemy's main force."
Kemake shook his head and said.
"We do not have more time. I suggest activating the array immediately, even if the precision is insufficient. At the same time, I request authorization to destroy the array if the situation becomes irredeemable..."
The Meeting Room fell into Silence.
Destroying the Psionic Amplifier Array meant that Sanpimu Star would permanently lose this strategic weapon, but it could not be allowed to fall into enemy hands.
"Authorization granted. Activate the Amplifier Array and set the self-destruct sequence simultaneously. May the light of the Star Alliance protect us."
The order was issued.
Deep beneath the surface, the massive Psionic Amplifier began to operate, gathering energy.
Kemake looked at the signals representing the enemy fleet on the hologram and spoke over the fleet broadcast.
"All remaining ships, for the glory of the Feng Qi Xing Alliance!"
"For the Star Alliance!"
