Chapter 942: The Back Door of Fengrao Starport (2)
Fengrao Starport.
The passage exit was hidden inside an inconspicuous maintenance chamber on the upper level of the Starport; the chamber door was half-open, and outside lay one of the Starport's once most prosperous commercial districts.
But at this moment, only deathly silence met his eyes.
Suspended billboards hung crookedly in mid-air, flickering occasionally and projecting fragmented images.
"Are all the Aliens here dead?"
Wodun asked in a low voice over the communication channel.
"No, they've all hidden. Evacuation protocol."
As he spoke, Chakede signaled for the squad to deploy into a defensive formation and enter the corridor.
Their Power Armor boots stepped on broken glass and metal shards, emitting a faint crunching sound.
"Scans show life signs ahead, about one hundred and fifty yards, in the right-hand fork. Not civilians; there are weapon energy signatures."
Kaxiusi reported.
Chakede nodded.
"Maintain formation, move quickly. If engaged, finish it fast."
The squad moved rapidly through the empty corridor.
Just as they were about to pass through a wide intersection, the alarms of Fengrao Starport sounded.
"Discovered?"
Wodun asked, his Bolter already raised.
"Uncertain, it could be us, or it could be other breakthrough points. But..."
Chakede did not finish his sentence, his gaze fixed on the black figures appearing at the other end of the intersection.
Twenty Storm Assault Team soldiers wearing uniform black Power Armor, the emblem of the Fengqi Star Alliance printed on their shoulder guards.
Both sides discovered each other simultaneously.
"For the Fengqi Star Alliance!"
The Sergeant of this Storm Assault squad shouted loudly.
The next second, dense energy fire and High-Explosive Armor-Piercing Shells were fired at the Luna Wolves squad.
"Take cover!"
Chakede roared, simultaneously side-stepping behind a structural pillar.
A High-Explosive Armor-Piercing Shell exploded where he had just been standing, blasting a large crater into the ground.
A thick beam of energy struck Kaxiusi's thigh armor; although it failed to penetrate, the high heat made him grunt.
Another shot grazed Wodun's helmet, leaving a scorching mark.
"These aren't ordinary cannon fodder!"
Wodun roared in the communication channel while leaning out from behind cover to return fire.
Wodun's bolt hit a Storm Assault soldier's chest plate, knocking the soldier flying and slamming them into the wall behind.
But that soldier quickly struggled to climb up; there was only a dented mark on the chest plate, which was slowly repairing itself.
Chakede observed the battle situation.
The Storm Assault Team was using their numerical advantage to try and suppress them with crossfire.
Two Storm Assault soldiers set up a Zhongxing Denglipao and began to charge it.
"Kaxiusi, flank from the left. Wodun, provide fire suppression with your team. I'm going to take out that heavy weapon."
"Understood!"
"Received!"
Kaxiusi and two Luna Wolves Space Marines began moving to the left, using the broken walls and ruins of shops as cover, attempting to circle to the flank of the Storm Assault Team.
Wodun and the other Luna Wolves Space Marines used their Bolters to provide suppressive fire, but the Storm Assault soldiers opposite had already set up portable energy shields, blocking most of the firepower.
Chakede moved between covers, two energy beams flying past his shoulder guard.
The Zhongxing Denglipao finished charging, and the two Storm Assault team members operating it aimed at the cover where Wodun was located.
Just as they were about to fire, Chakede struck from the side.
With one sword strike, he severed the barrel of the Plasma Cannon along with its mount.
Following immediately with a spin, he punched the operator in the head; the helmet deformed severely, and the skull inside was crushed as well.
The other operator tried to resist, but Chakede's Bolter was already pressed against their faceplate.
"For the Emperor."
Bang!
Just as Chakede eliminated the heavy weapons team, the remaining Storm Assault soldiers reorganized their formation and called for reinforcements.
Kaxiusi reported in the channel.
"More enemies! Regular garrison, at least two platoons, approaching from the rear!"
Chakede cursed. They were being pincered.
"Change tactics! Wodun's team is responsible for the regular garrison in the rear, Kaxiusi's team will deal with the rest with me. Finish it fast!"
"Understood!"
Wodun and three warriors turned to face the newly arrived enemies.
"For the Starport!"
A Fengqi Sergeant shouted, leading the soldiers to launch a charge.
The Fengqi soldiers knew their weapons could hardly penetrate the Power Armor, yet they still charged one after another.
They used every means available. Energy Rifles, Hand Grenades, and even thermal blades for close-quarters attacks.
Every time Wodun's Bolter fired, it claimed a life, and soon he had wiped out the arriving Fengqi soldiers.
At the same time, the Storm Assault Team facing Chakede and Kaxiusi displayed astonishing resilience.
A Storm Assault soldier managed to get close to Kaxiusi, swinging a high-voltage hammer at his side.
The impact made Kaxiusi stagger, then Kaxiusi turned to parry the second strike with his Chainsword, before thrusting the sword into the attacker's chest cavity and pulling it downward, spilling out a mess of unrecognizable organs.
"They are a bit more troublesome than imagined!"
Kaxiusi said, panting.
Chakede did not answer; he was focused on the Storm Assault Team Sergeant in front of him.
The two stood in a standoff in the middle of the corridor, and the Sergeant launched the attack first, the Chongji Changmao thrusting toward the neck joint of Chakede.
Chakede dodged to the side, his Chainsword sweeping upward, colliding with the Spear to create blinding sparks.
"Why have you come, monster!"
The Captain roared, thrusting again.
"For the glory of the Emperor."
Chakede parried the Spear with his Chainsword, firing his Bolter at close range with his other hand.
The Sergeant rolled to dodge as if he had sensed it in advance, and the bolt exploded against the wall behind him, creating a large hole.
As he rose, he threw a Plasma Grenade, forcing Chakede to retreat to avoid the explosion.
"What does your Emperor have to do with us? This is our home!"
"The home of Humans covers the sea of stars."
Chakede lunged forward, and the Chainsword collided with the Spear once more.
"And Aliens do not deserve to have a home."
Saying this, Chakede slammed his head into the Sergeant's faceplate.
The sound of metal shattering rang out, and the Sergeant staggered backward.
Chakede's Chainsword swung out again.
"We will both be wounded, but only one side will die."
This time, the Sergeant could not dodge.
The Chainsword cut in from the center of his chest plate, tearing through the Power Armor, bones, and internal organs alike.
The Sergeant's eyes widened as he watched his body split in two, then he fell to the ground and died.
"This Alien actually managed to last 6 seconds in my hands; it is indeed a bit troublesome."
The battle began to tilt in favor of the Luna Wolves.
The remaining combat lasted less than 2.5 minutes.
When the echo of the final bolt dissipated in the corridor, the corpses of twenty Storm Assault Team members and at least thirty Fengqi soldiers lay scattered on the ground, black Power Armor mixed with ordinary gray exoskeletons.
The Luna Wolves squad had also paid a price.
Everyone's Power Armor was covered in scorch marks and impact dents, and some even had holes in them.
Chakede stood in the middle of the corpses and said.
"Organize equipment, count ammunition."
Wodun walked to his side, looking at the corpses covering the floor.
"These Aliens... are more troublesome than any we have encountered before."
Chakede nodded: "They are elites; it is normal for them to be a bit troublesome. But even so, they cannot stop the will of the Emperor."
Chakede looked up toward the end of the corridor; after this battle, the Starport's defenses would surely be more vigilant, and the difficulty of their decapitation strike had greatly increased.
"We continue forward."
