Chapter 943: The Fall of Fengrao Starport (1)
Fengrao Starport. No. 15 Defensive Turret.
In the communication channel, the voice of the engineering department was intermittent, mixed with harsh static interference.
"Solid Wall Shield strength at twenty percent... fifteen... ten... all units prepare for impact..."
Before the words could finish, a violent tremor arrived, and Weike nearly fell to the ground.
The lighting system in the corridor flickered a few times and then went out, with emergency lights on the walls casting a red glow.
"Shield overload! Repeat, Solid Wall Shield has overloaded!"
Although Weike had been mentally prepared, when this moment truly arrived, he still felt somewhat nervous.
"Take your positions! They are about to come in!"
Sergeant Keba's voice rang out in the squad channel.
"Remember! Aim for the joints and eyepieces of those big guys! Laku, do not fire your Ciqiang Jijiang without my order!"
Weike and Kern were assigned to a critical corridor corner, a position that could provide crossfire coverage for the main corridor.
About fifteen meters behind them, Laku of the Stone-born had already set up his massive Ciqiang Jijiang; the firepower of that thing was enough to tear through the armor of heavy vehicles.
Kern crouched behind the cover opposite Weike, his amber eyes fixed on the end of the corridor.
"Which direction do you think they will come from?"
Kern asked in a low voice.
"It doesn't matter which direction, they will come regardless."
Just as Weike finished speaking, a loud bang suddenly came from the end of the corridor.
Immediately after, a thick cloud of smoke began to surge from that side.
"They're in!"
Someone screamed in the communication channel, their voice distorted by fear.
Weike held his breath, pressing the stock of his energy rifle tightly against his shoulder pocket.
His third eye caught several blurry and massive figures through the gradually diffusing smoke.
Then, Weike saw them.
They were even taller than Weike had imagined; even the tallest Stone-born warrior was barely as tall as them.
The movements of these steel giants were steady, and every step they took made the metal floor tremble slightly.
"Fire!"
Sergeant Keba's roar echoed in the corridor.
The corridor was illuminated by dense energy beams.
Dozens of Feng Rao soldiers leaned out from behind their respective covers to fire, blue energy beams shooting toward those giants wearing power armor.
Weike pulled the trigger, feeling the slight recoil from the energy rifle.
His three eyes locked firmly onto the Iron Warrior walking in the lead, aiming at the connection between the opponent's helmet and chest plate.
According to the intelligence sent back by General Kashika, that was the relatively weak link.
However, the effect was minimal.
The energy beams hit the Iron Warrior's power armor, splashing sparks everywhere.
The Iron Warrior in the lead only shook his head slightly, then raised the bolter in his hand.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
A series of bolter rounds hit a Feng Rao soldier hiding behind cover.
This Feng Rao soldier didn't even have time to scream before being blown into a mist of blood, with blood and visceral fragments splattering onto the wall behind.
"My god..."
Weike heard Kern gasp.
More bolters began to roar.
The Iron Warriors advanced steadily just like that, and every roar of the bolters in their hands claimed a life.
The Feng Rao soldiers fought back bravely; some threw hand grenades, some tried to aim with heavy weapons, but it was all to no avail.
A Feng Rao soldier fired a missile, which struck the chest plate of an Iron Warrior space marine.
The explosion knocked him back two steps, leaving small holes in the chest plate, but the Iron Warrior just looked down at it and continued to advance.
"This is impossible..."
Weike muttered to himself, fear drowning him like a tide.
What kind of enemy were they facing?
"Laku! Fire! Aim at the same target!"
Sergeant Keba roared.
In the rear, Laku's Ciqiang Jijiang began to spin.
The three barrels rotated at high speed, spraying a stream of high-explosive armor-piercing shells.
This time, the effect finally appeared.
The dense high-explosive armor-piercing shells hit the chest plate of the leading Iron Warrior, emitting a harsh metallic clanging sound.
Immediately after, several armor-piercing shells penetrated his chest plate, and blood gushed out from the bullet holes.
That Iron Warrior finally stopped his pace, looked down at the bullet holes in his chest, and continued to fire.
Until his massive body crashed to the ground, making a heavy metallic thud.
A faint cheer erupted in the corridor.
They finally took one down!
But this joy of victory lasted for less than three seconds.
In response, the other Iron Warriors Space Marines became even more ferocious with their firepower.
They began to charge!
Those seemingly cumbersome Power Armor suits erupted with astonishing speed, and within the time of just a few heartbeats, they had already reached the front of the Fengqi soldiers' cover.
Weike watched in horror as an Iron Warrior smashed directly through an alloy barrier; the two soldiers behind it had no time to dodge and were pounded into pulp by his fists.
Another Iron Warrior brandished a Chainsword, its piercing roar becoming the most chilling sound effect on the battlefield; with every swing, a Fengqi soldier was cut in half at the waist.
"Retreat! Fall back to the second gate!"
Sergeant Barke realized that frontal resistance was meaningless and issued the order to withdraw.
But it was already too late.
An Iron Warrior noticed Laku's heavy machine gun position and raised the Meltagun in his hand.
A flash of searing white light streaked by, and Laku, along with his heavy machine gun, was melted into a pool of glowing liquid metal.
The Stone-born warrior did not even manage to let out a scream.
"Laku!"
Kern roared, firing desperately at that Iron Warrior.
The energy beams struck the opponent's Power Armor, leaving only a few scorched marks.
That Iron Warrior turned his head to look at Kahn, his red ocular lenses flickering with the light of death in the darkness.
Without a second thought, Weike lunged at Kern, knocking him to the ground.
A bolt round blew a large hole in the wall behind them.
"Are you crazy?" Weike shouted at Kern, "We have to retreat!"
Kern's eyes were filled with rage, but he nodded.
The two followed the other survivors, retreating toward the second gate in the rear.
The corridor was filled with the corpses of Fengqi soldiers; some had been blown apart by bolts, some severed by Chainswords, and others crushed flat.
The Iron Warriors advanced steadily, clearing out any strongholds that were still resisting.
Weike saw an injured soldier trying to crawl toward a safe area, only to have his skull crushed by the foot of an Iron Warrior.
This was not war; this was a massacre.
When they finally retreated behind the second gate, Weike looked back.
The defense squad, which had originally numbered over fifty, now had fewer than 10 people left, and every one of them was wounded.
Sergeant Barke had been hit by a rocket while covering their retreat, leaving not even a corpse behind.
The heavy gate slowly descended, temporarily blocking those Demons on the other side.
Weike slumped to the ground, gasping violently.
His left shoulder had been struck by bolt shrapnel, the armor was ruptured, and blood seeped from the wound.
Kern was in slightly better condition, but his face was etched with post-traumatic stupor.
"What... what exactly are we fighting against?"
A young Fengqi soldier muttered to himself, his body trembling uncontrollably.
