Chapter 946: The Fall of Fengrao Starport (4)
Fengrao Starport Command Center.
General Suo'er stood before the tactical holographic table in the Command Center, watching the icons of the extinguished defense nodes.
The Solid Wall Shield held for 15 minutes before the enemy increased their firepower, directly overloading the Solid Wall Shield.
Having lost the protection of the Solid Wall Shield, the Second Defense Line also began to fall rapidly.
"The Second Defense Line is collapsing completely, General! G Zone has fallen, E Zone has lost contact, and D Zone reports that the enemy's main force has broken through the outer perimeter defenses!"
Suo'er looked at the constantly expanding red area on the holographic table and asked calmly.
"Where is the Storm Assault Team? Taikesi and his First Company should have news by now."
"The last communication was 25 minutes ago; they reported engaging enemy infiltration units in T Zone. After that... there has been no signal whatsoever."
Suo'er closed his eyes; he already had the answer in his heart.
Taikesi was the most outstanding commander under his command, and the Storm Assault Team was the Starport's most elite unit.
If they had failed to send back any news, then the result was self-evident.
"General! Multiple high-energy signals detected breaking through the internal defense network! They... they are advancing toward the Command Center!"
"Activate the Command Center self-defense protocol; all available forces are to assemble at the core area."
Suo'er knew clearly in his heart that this was already a futile struggle.
The Starport's defense system was already shattered, and there were few troops left to mobilize.
Even by the most optimistic estimates, they would not last more than one standard hour.
Suo'er walked to the command console and opened an encrypted communication channel.
This was the emergency line directly connected to the Supreme Council of the Feng Qi Xing Alliance.
"This is General Suo'er, Commander of Fengrao Starport, identity verification code 7-G-2-9. Fengrao Starport is about to fall. Repeat, Fengrao Starport is about to fall."
After a moment of silence on the other end of the communication, Gelan's voice appeared.
"Suo'er, how bad is the situation?"
"The worst-case scenario, sir. The enemy calls themselves the 'Xiuluo Holy Star Alliance' and possesses formidable military technology and combat power. Our regular soldiers have no power to fight against them at all."
Suo'er pulled up the data panel and began transmitting the combat report he had compiled.
"I am sending all combat data and intelligence analysis, including the enemy's ship characteristics, weapon performance, tactical patterns, and the combat records of those... Super Soldiers."
In fact, a portion of it was sent back by my subordinates, but I have no time left to study these monsters.
The Orbital Defense Platform was destroyed within half an hour, and the Second Defense Line is disintegrating. The enemy has broken into the interior of the Starport and is advancing toward the Command Center."
The heavy breathing of General Gelan came from the other end of the communication.
"Reinforcements will need at least 29 standard hours to reach your location..."
"We cannot hold out that long, sir. The fall of Fengrao Starport is a foregone conclusion. Please ensure these data are delivered safely; they may be our only hope for countering this threat in the future."
Suo'er paused for a moment and continued.
"Please tell the Supreme Council that my subordinates and I fought until the very last moment."
The communication channel fell into a long silence.
Finally, Gelan's voice sounded again.
"The Feng Qi Xing Alliance will remember your sacrifice, General Suo'er. May the starlight guide your way home."
"For the Feng Qi Xing Alliance."
Suo'er responded softly, then cut the communication.
Just then, an explosion suddenly sounded outside the Command Center.
"They are here! Enemy units have broken through the final line of defense and are attacking the Command Center gates!"
Suo'er stood up, straightened his wrinkled military uniform, and ordered.
"Delete all sensitive data, destroy the codebooks and communication logs. We cannot leave any valuable intelligence for the enemy."
The officers executed the orders quickly, and the control consoles went black one after another.
An Adjutant spoke to Suo'er.
"General, we should escort you to evacuate! There is still the emergency escape tunnel..."
Suo'er shook his head: "I will exist or perish with Fengrao Starport."
Suo'er looked at the progress bar still transmitting data on the main screen: 87 percent.
"All personnel, take up your weapons and prepare to meet the enemy. Let us give these uninvited guests a proper... welcome."
Suo'er grabbed an Energy Rifle and ordered the officers in the Command Center.
The personnel in the Command Center took out their weapons one after another and hid behind the control consoles and instruments.
The explosions coming from outside the gate became increasingly dense; that was the enemy using heavy weapons to bombard the reinforced gate of the Command Center.
Every explosion made the entire room tremble, and the metal on the gate began to deform and show cracks.
Suo'er watched the data transmission progress calmly—92 percent.
It was almost finished.
The entire reinforced gate could not hold, and with a loud bang, it exploded inward.
Several tall figures appeared.
Gray-white Power Armor, blood-red lenses, and those Bolters emitting white smoke.
"For the Emperor!"
The lead warrior shouted, raised his Bolter, and began to sweep the room.
A burst of Bolter fire rang out in the Command Center as the Fengqi officers made their final resistance.
But all of this was in vain.
The roar of the Bolters drowned out every other sound.
Suo'er watched his subordinates fall one after another; the damage their weapons could inflict before the Space Marine's Power Armor was limited.
Suo'er looked at the data transmission progress bar: ninety-eight percent.
A Luna Wolves Space Marine noticed him and strode toward him.
"Alien Commander, surrender and let your life serve its remaining value."
Suo'er looked up at the Luna Wolves Space Marine before him and refused.
"The Fengqi do not know how to surrender to invaders."
"It doesn't matter; I was just asking as a matter of routine. It is even better if you do not agree."
As the Luna Wolves Space Marine spoke, he raised his Bolter and aimed it at Suo'er.
The notification sound for the completed data transmission rang out.
A flash of relief crossed Suo'er's eyes.
He raised his head, faced the enemy who had taken everything from him and destroyed his home, and shouted loudly.
"The Feng Qi Xing Alliance endures forever."
Bang!
At the distant Southern Theater Command, General Gelan received the confirmation that the data transmission was complete.
After a moment of silence, he began to arrange for personnel to organize the intelligence and initiate a response meeting.
Fengrao Starport had fallen, but the battle was far from over.
The intelligence that Suo'er and his subordinates exchanged their lives for would become the initial spark for the Feng Qi Xing Alliance to resist this new threat.
And in the ruined Command Center, Sergeant Chakede stood before Suo'er's corpse and reported to the Orbital Fleet via his Communication Device.
"The Alien Command Center has been cleared. Their commander refused to surrender and has been executed."
"Fengrao Starport is now ours."
