Chapter 1482: Twilight Event (Part 4)
The atmosphere in the Forgotten Bar was very gloomy. The remaining few sat around the bar counter. Master of the Night Jim wiped the night blade in his hand, sighed, and said: "The situation is very bad. I just called a dozen great mages; not many could get through. I hope they are just hiding."
"They should have realized long ago that demons cannot be trusted!" Deadman Boston lowered his eyelids and said: "No one can blame them for making deals to gain power, but relying too much on this power leads to this outcome."
"I don't know if the demons suddenly reclaiming their power has anything to do with the vampires' actions. If it does, we are in big trouble." Bennett held a wine glass, appearing very frustrated. Clearly, he still felt that he had implicated Constantine.
"That crazy woman Mary, she must have offered Constantine to Cain. Cain will suck his blood dry; no vampire can resist the temptation of pure blood."
"We have to go to Plymouth." Red Robin, sitting in the furthest corner, spoke silently: "They have a base there. We must first figure out what the Blood Queen Mary and the vampire ancestor Cain are trying to do."
"I'm sorry, kid, but I can't leave London right now." Jim frowned and said: "I have to go to the residence of the magical families first, and then go to the mage towers of those great mages I'm familiar with to find help. We cannot let the demons break their contracts; we must unite to negotiate with them."
"Besides, Zatanna's mental state is not good. My apprentice Andrea gave her some calming medicine, but she still needs someone to take care of and protect her. We cannot lose another friend."
Red Robin said nothing. He just nodded, stood up, and said: "I'm going back to the Forgotten Bookstore first to find my friend for help, and by the way, see if I can find anything useful John left behind."
Jim reached out and patted his shoulder, then opened a portal for him. Before Red Robin walked into the door, Jim looked at him and said: "You are a quite capable kid. I know I can't stop you from doing anything, but I hope you remember: must, must, must use Lilith's power with caution."
"I will. I have already seen the consequences of abusing power."
After finishing, Red Robin stepped into the portal. The second after the teleportation was completed, an extremely rich smell of blood drilled into Red Robin's nose.
He subconsciously covered his nose with his hand, and then felt his feet step on some kind of mucus.
Red Robin looked up and saw a horrific corpse hanging on the wall beside the stairs of the Forgotten Bar.
It was a young male, his skin pale and lifeless. He was pierced and nailed to the wall by a Roman-style spear, which had originally hung on the wall by the bookstore door as decoration.
All the skin on the lower abdomen and waist of the male body was gone, but the exposed muscle tissue was too clean, without a trace of blood or residual fat, giving the feeling not of being skinned, but of having undergone an exquisite surgery.
Red Robin felt no fear at all. He stared at the corpse and walked forward slowly, leaving one footprint after another in the blood on the floor.
Lilith said in his mind: "How cruel, human..."
"Shut up."
A trace of anger surfaced in Red Robin's mind, but it was not his own; it came from Lilith.
Before Lilith could get angry, she saw through Red Robin's eyes that all the blood on the ground rose up, like raindrops gathering in a puddle retreating back to the sky.
All the information and clues in the space converged into glowing threads, wrapping around Red Robin's body. He opened his arms to welcome it all, more devoutly than he welcomed Lilith.
He turned into a cocoon wrapped in information, the strong silk hooking onto the rafters, carrying him floating into the middle of the room. When he looked down at his feet, through the gaps in the fine threads, he could see a spotless leather shoe stepping on the equally clean and tidy floor.
Schiller walked in first, followed by Red Hood Jason.
Red Robin was not surprised by this. When he was called away by Constantine, Schiller was giving Jason a lesson, but what did they go out to do?
Schiller carried a briefcase and placed it on the table. He lit a match, the firelight reflecting the blood-red twilight on the streets of London.
Schiller burned the shopping receipt and threw the ashes into the trash can. Just as he intended to pick up the briefcase again, a black shadow suddenly flashed outside the window.
Red Robin's fingers tightened for a moment. He should have thought of it earlier; the Blood Queen Mary probably had a backup plan. While personally leading people to chase outside the Forgotten Bar, she also sent people to the bookstore where Constantine was, preventing Constantine from using the teleportation array to escape back here.
A vampire rushed into the bookstore. He spread his bat wings and extended his sharp claws, but what awaited him was not the usual screaming, but a spear that Red Hood had taken down from the wall at the first opportunity.
The spear pierced the vampire's chest, blood splashing onto the window glass on one side. Red Hood took another step forward, using the spear to slam the vampire's body against the wall behind.
Then, his movements stopped. As this information flashed through Red Robin's mind, he felt a trace of doubt. Jason was someone who didn't hold back even against human criminals; how could he be willing to let go of an evil vampire?
Someone stopped him; the footprints on the ground proved this point.
Schiller stepped forward, extended his arm to block Red Hood's continued attack, and shook his head.
Schiller let Red Hood step back. He walked past Red Hood, picked up the briefcase on the table, and opened it to reveal a set of precision surgical tools.
"Go help me get that book over there." Schiller lifted his chin slightly. Red Hood's footsteps paused, but he still followed his instructions to the bookshelf and brought the book Schiller wanted.
Schiller let Red Hood open the book to a certain page, and with dazzling technique, used a scalpel to carve a complex pattern on the back of the hand of the vampire who had been knocked down and nailed to the ground.
Schiller let Red Hood hold the staff with remaining energy that Constantine had used when experimenting with the magic circle, and tapped it on the back of the vampire's hand. The magic circle emitted a filthy red light, and the vampire let out a terrible scream.
He instinctively wanted to turn into a bat to escape, but the restrictive magic circle made his transformation ability fail, and the spear Red Hood had pierced through his chest kept him lying on the ground.
"He can't run. Go pull out the weapon." Schiller cleaned the scalpel and said to Red Hood.
Red Hood had always hated others ordering him around, even Batman couldn't, but now his movements were so fast they left afterimages, because the Schiller he was facing now gave him the feeling that he was actually no different from the unlucky guy lying on the ground—Schiller couldn't see them at all.
Red Hood pulled out the spear. The vampire struggled to climb up. Schiller lifted his head again and said: "Go grab him and keep him from moving."
Red Hood walked to the front of the vampire's head, reached out to drag his upper body up from the ground, and locked him in place by putting his arms through his armpits. Schiller nodded and said: "Very good, keep this posture and don't move. If you don't want to watch, close your eyes."
"How do you plan to eliminate him? Let him bask in the sun?"
"I don't intend to eliminate him. Vampires have strong self-healing abilities; I am just taking some things from his body. He won't die."
Schiller said while taking off the vampire's jacket, then used a scalpel to draw a thin line from the center of the collarbone to the navel, oozing beads of blood. The vampire didn't know what he was going to do, just kept cursing.
The next second, the scalpel cut through the skin. The wound was not deep, and the pain was not heavy, but Schiller reached his fingers in, used both hands to pull apart the skin near the wound, and then continued to slice downward until reaching the soft lower abdomen.
The vampire's body had no temperature. Schiller seemed dissatisfied with this point. He accelerated his movements, pulling apart the skin of the vampire's abdomen while saying to Red Hood.
"Have you read the 'Bible'?"
"Maybe."
"Abel was a shepherd, and Cain was a tiller of the ground. Abel raised livestock with a heart to serve God, and God was pleased with his piety, thus accepting him, so that all might know that God rejoices in the sacrifice of livestock."
"God liked Abel's sacrifice, firstly because God likes sacrifice; the offered sacrifice bears the sins of the offerer. It sheds blood for the sinful, making God understand the offerer's repentance."
"Secondly, because the offered sacrifice is the best; the firstborn of the flock is the strongest, and the fat of the sheep's abdomen is the most succulent part of the sheep. Offering the best to God is the only way to please Him."
The vampire trembled and screamed incessantly, more and more blood flowing from his body. His uncontrollable legs wiped arc-shaped marks in the blood on the floor.
"Your hand is loose." Schiller lowered his head and reminded.
Red Hood revealed a slightly conflicted expression and said: "Don't do this. Killing him is fine; I can't... I can't..."
"If you let go, the next one lying here will be you."
Immediately, the vampire had no room to struggle. Schiller removed all the epidermis of the vampire's abdomen and waist, severed the nerves, removed the blood vessels, and then used a scalpel to scrape away his clean subcutaneous fat bit by bit, putting it into a glass bottle.
Red Hood used all his strength to clamp the struggling vampire while closing his eyes, constantly hypnotizing himself in his mind.
Until Schiller stood up, put away the surgical tools and the bottle, and said to Red Hood: "Pick up that spear and nail him to the wall; someone will understand it."
Red Hood did it almost instinctively, but after seeing the vampire struggling and screaming while clutching the spear in his chest, he couldn't help it. He called out to Schiller, who was about to leave, and said: "There is some mercury in the basement; I'll go get it to feed him. Wait for me."
After finishing, Red Hood walked toward the basement without looking back. Soon, he brought a small bottle of mercury and forcibly pried open the vampire's mouth to make him swallow it.
The vampire showed no symptoms of mercury poisoning, but his self-healing ability gradually disappeared, followed by his life force.
Red Hood walked past Schiller with his head down, arrived at the door, and whispered: "It was mentioned in folklore; I didn't expect it to be really useful."
"You will be an arrogant, studious student."
Schiller lowered his head, meticulously packed up the surgical tools, picked up the bottle containing the abdominal fat, and left the Forgotten Bookstore with Red Hood.
Lilith, who had seen the scene reproduced in Red Robin's mind, was silent, while Red Robin looked up, his gaze focused on the corpse on the wall, and said: "How cruel, human..."
After a while, Red Robin walked quickly out of the Forgotten Bookstore. Lilith asked in his mind: "Where are you going? Do you need me to help you open a portal?"
"No need."
Red Robin walked outside. A taxi came down the street. He sat in the back seat and said to the driver: "Go to Westminster Abbey."
Before Lilith could ask, Red Robin said: "He left that corpse because he knew someone would understand... That person is me. This is a letter he left for me." ===== CHAPTER 1483 =====
