Chapter 2148: Battle of the Two Cities! (Part 26)
Joker! Present! Under interrogation!
The Joker gritted his teeth and roared this sentence in his heart, even beginning to suspect that the person sitting across from the interrogation chair was Batman.
But fate was not so kind; sitting across from this green-haired figure was just an ordinary female police officer, and after shifting his angle slightly, the Joker discovered that the handcuffs on her hands were just as ordinary.
The Joker knew that in the Gotham slums, such handcuffs were generally called "the Sheriff's face"—anyone who let these handcuffs stay on their wrists was really just giving the Sheriff some face.
To put it bluntly, this thing couldn't hold anyone—at least not anyone the Joker knew, including Spider-Man. Even for Spider-Man, the Joker would bet that the kid could shatter these handcuffs just by sneezing.
To confirm that the "Joker" inside was truly the Joker, and that he was only staying there because of some unknown plan, the Joker had to lean forward to listen to what they were saying.
The Joker was discussing his own criminal plan.
In a police station responsible for security in an affluent district, he was talking to a female officer whose face clearly read "I want to get off work," explaining how he planned to hijack the Toyman from a prison transport vehicle, create brutal toys, and then kill Bruce Wei En.
But this act itself wasn't actually the most shocking part; what made the Joker feel like he was in a different lifetime was that he had only listened for two minutes, and a minute and a half of that was spent fighting off sleepiness.
The Joker really didn't know how anyone could make a criminal plan sound so hypnotic—it was the kind of hypnosis that, if you put a tape recorder here right now and submitted it to a TV station, they wouldn't dare broadcast it during prime time.
The reason news about the Joker wasn't broadcast during prime time was always out of fear of scaring children, but this time it would definitely be for the sake of the following program's ratings; after all, if you put the audience to sleep, the directors of the later shows would fight you to the death.
This Joker's way of speaking was simply too long-winded; not only was his logic fragmented, but he was also stuttering and adding a pile of messy adjectives, and more importantly, he kept repeating himself.
Now the Joker was starting to believe what the Sheriff said—was this Joker not high on something?
Just as he thought this, the Joker suddenly heard a commotion coming from the first floor. He hesitated for a moment, but still followed the original path down to the ground, arrived at the other side of the house, and looked in through the back window.
He saw Batman again, and it was Batman without his gear again. He focused his hearing and discovered that Batman wanted to see the car thief.
The Joker actually felt a trace of relief. Batman finally knew how to use Bruce Wei En's identity to get things done—wasn't this much better than standing on a rooftop in the middle of the night and jumping off? In this city, who dared not give Bruce Wei En face?
This Sheriff dared.
He kicked Bruce out.
When he heard this Sheriff ask Bruce Wei En to leave the police station in an extremely official and polite tone, the Joker really began to doubt his own ears.
And at this moment, he suddenly remembered that this city was actually the result of the fusion of two Earths, which meant that perhaps this Sheriff happened to be from the other city and didn't know Bruce Wei En at all.
Fine, that could be considered a reasonable explanation, but what shocked the Joker even more was that Bruce Wei En left.
He just turned and left, full of anger and unwillingness. Batman Bruce Wei En turned and left after being rejected.
The Joker immediately found a place to hide because he thought Batman's next step would be to go to the roof. As a result, by the time the exhaust from the car Bruce was driving disappeared, the Joker hadn't waited for even half a bat-hair.
He even stood behind the house in a daze. Who am I? Where am I? What should I be doing?
At this moment, another commotion came from upstairs.
The Joker didn't intend to climb up this time; he simply found a small tree in the police station's backyard, climbed up, and squatted there. He wanted to see what other tricks this universe's version of himself could pull.
It looked like, after explaining his plan clearly, this Joker was finally ready to escape.
The Joker had just let out a sigh of relief when he heard a "Bang!" of a gunshot. He widened his eyes once again.
What kind of decent Joker escapes from a police station without grabbing a gun first? Daring to act without a gun in hand?!
Just as he thought this, a sturdy figure leaped out of the room and fell heavily to the ground.
The Joker saw his full appearance: a man wearing a long purple suit, a tie with a green circle pattern on his chest, long curly green hair, and a brooch with a strange pattern pinned to his chest.
This attire was not exactly the same as the Joker's; the Joker always had short curly hair, wore short suits when wearing formal attire, wore bow ties, didn't wear pocket squares, and didn't wear brooches. Also, this guy who fell to the ground was much older than him and had a huge M-shaped receding hairline on his head.
The police rushed out of the house immediately after. The Joker hid behind the tree before they came out. Facts proved that his intuition was correct, because the moment his feet touched the ground, two bullets flew past his arm.
That long-haired Joker scrambled up from the ground in a sorry state, rolled into the bushes in a panic, and then clumsily jumped onto the wall, trying to climb over.
He was halfway over, his leg still on the wall, when he was shot. The short-haired Joker hiding behind the tree had to take advantage of the police not paying attention to circle to the front of the house and make some noise, only then allowing him to escape successfully.
After helping, the Joker rushed to the place where the long-haired Joker had landed immediately. It wasn't for anything else, but because blood from the gunshot wound had been left there. The Joker was there to examine the blood.
The moment he touched that pool of blood, the Joker felt despair, because he discovered that this guy really was the Joker.
The Joker's blood had a unique scent of madness; this was something Batman had once told the Joker, and the Joker believed it deeply. He was special, as special as Batman.
The Joker spent some time accepting that there were countless universes and countless versions of him in this world, as well as countless pairs of Batman and Joker. And what made him feel fortunate was that in every universe, they were evenly matched mortal enemies.
After noticing something wrong, the Joker hoped to gain some clues by observing the changes in Batman and Joker in other universes. He had thought he would be met with a bloody visual feast, but he didn't expect it to be a "taste" feast of incompetence.
At this moment, this war was not exactly bland; there were still two "master chefs" cooking with all their might.
As soon as the Joker turned his head, he saw Bruce's figure appear on the skyline—it was Bruce, not Batman, because he hadn't worn Batman's gear from beginning to end.
Now the Joker was certain: the spider silk he had seen on the road earlier wasn't a coincidence. This Batman was actually swinging over using this thin spider silk.
The Joker rushed out in a hurry, ran all the way to the other side of the street, following Bruce's footsteps. And in front of him was the long-haired Joker, shot in the calf, limping and fleeing in a panic.
Very good, Batman was about to catch the Joker. The two of them were the actors who should be performing the rivalry; to hell with Toyman and female police officers.
Bruce swung down from the roof again as before, rolled on the ground, stood steady, and then chased after the fleeing Joker in front.
The Joker, who was chasing behind to watch the fun, had already jumped onto the roof of a car and then climbed to the second-floor balcony of a shop. He couldn't wait to see Batman pin down this damn Joker who had lost the Joker's face and give him a good beating.
The long-haired Joker saw that the person behind him was about to catch up. While clutching the wound on his leg, he wanted to cross the road and escape through the alley on the opposite side.
But he was too busy turning his head to look at Bruce's movements behind him and didn't notice at all that a car speeding through the intersection drifted around the corner and rushed toward this side.
BOOM!!!!!
The Joker standing on the second-floor balcony watched with his own eyes as his other self drew a beautiful arc in mid-air and was hit at least three meters away.
Two people got out of the car: one wearing a yellow and black uniform, and one wearing a red and black uniform.
I have to say, the Joker's build was really tough. Such a collision broke the car they were driving. These two people in strange costumes had to get out of the car quickly because they were being chased by another person in an even stranger costume, holding a shiny Stars and Stripes shield in his hand.
"Stop!!!" Captain America shouted.
"Sorry, Steve, but we can't go back with you. We still have a mission to do." The guy in the red and black uniform, whose expression and movements looked very cheeky, shouted back while running.
But just as he turned his head, he stepped on something and was tripped, falling flat on his face.
He scrambled up from the ground, shook his head, muttered two nonsensical swear words, and turned his head to see what had tripped him.
A head of green hair, a white face, and a bloody mouth revealing a crazy smile.
"AH!!!!!!!!"
A violent scream pierced through two blocks. Deathstroke watched with his own eyes as his little cousin, who never forgot to play the fool while running away, moved his legs so fast they became a blur, running at the fastest speed of his life and disappearing at the end of the street in a flash.
Deathstroke was only one step slower. The shield smashed straight onto the ground at his feet. He ran forward two more steps to slow down and stop, turned his head, and threw a smoke bomb at the guy called Captain America.
Captain America rolled directly behind a car on the side of the street to take cover and rushed out of the smoke bomb's range like an arrow from a bow.
But Bruce was hit.
The Joker on the second floor watched with his own eyes as Bruce, who was chasing the Joker, didn't brake in time when the smoke bomb landed at his feet, rushed straight into the smoke, and was tripped by the Joker who had fallen to the ground.
By the time he scrambled up from the ground, the Joker had also miraculously stood up, but because the smoke was too thick, neither of them could see the other, and they both stood there in a daze.
The Joker standing on the balcony swore that he absolutely did not want to participate in this "culinary competition," but he suddenly discovered a figure appearing on the roof of the shop he was standing on.
"Hey, cousin! Come this way, I'm here to pick you up!!"
Deadpool stood on the roof and shouted. He felt that after bringing people in, running away himself when encountering danger was too damaging to his character image, so he took a detour and decided to come back to pick up Deathstroke.
He was afraid Deathstroke wouldn't see him, so he stood on the edge of the roof and waved his arms desperately. But whether it was because Captain America and Deathstroke were fighting too intensely, or because he was standing too high, Deathstroke didn't hear the sound; in short, Deathstroke ignored him.
Deadpool lowered his arms and sighed. He lowered his head and discovered that there was a balcony below that was an excellent strategic position—it was far from the smoke and not too high. Once Deathstroke shook off Captain America, he could jump up with a light leap.
He jumped down without thinking.
After jumping down, he discovered there was someone here. Deadpool turned his head: a head of green hair, a white face, and a bloody mouth revealing a crazy smile.
