Chapter 2392: The Battle of the Bats (Part 11)

~10 min read 1,919 words

"Wait, why are we running?!" Diana asked, looking back as she ran. "We aren't so weak that we can't beat a Tyrannosaurus Rex, are we?"

"But he's Batman!!" Clark shouted, on the verge of a breakdown. "How could we possibly beat a Bat-Tyrannosaurus... I mean, a Tyrannosaurus Batman? No, a Bat-Tyrant? Uh... a Bat-Rex???"

"I like that last one." Bruce, following behind them in the suit the group had crafted earlier, said, "Bat-Rex sounds pretty cool!"

"Cool, my foot! Don't tell me this is a Batman who survived from prehistoric times to the present. If that's the case, I'm turning around and running!" Clark yelled.

"How did he survive the Great Extinction?" Diana was also baffled. But if Batman had survived the Great Extinction as a dinosaur, how could Mount Olympus still exist?

The three of them flew forward with the Bat-Rex in hot pursuit, until Diana came to her senses and shouted, "Stop running! If we keep going, we'll hit the city. We have to deal with him here, or the buildings will get smashed!"

Clark finally managed to recover from the mental shock. He slammed on the brakes in mid-air, followed by a nimble roll to turn back, still looking dazed as he hovered in the air.

Seeing them stop, the Bat-Rex slowed his pace. He lowered his body, brought his massive head close to look at the three tiny figures below, and asked coldly in a low, rumbling voice, "Who are you? What are you doing here?"

"Uh, in other universes, I'm usually called Wonder Woman, this is Superman, and this one you should be very familiar with." Diana pointed at Bruce and said, "Batman, also known as Bruce Wei En."

The Bat-Rex seemed shocked, but not by their identities. He lowered his head even further, looking at Bruce with those giant eyes, and asked, "What did they call you?"

"Bruce Wei En." Bruce said nonchalantly, "Is that something rare for you? Oh, I get it... dinosaurs don't have names?"

The Bat-Rex let out a long sigh and said, "I am Batman too, and I didn't survive from the prehistoric era to the present."

"So, is this a new machine you built, Batman?" Clark was still trying to make a reasonable deduction. "Why not meet us in your original body? We mean no harm, we..."

"This is my original body." the Bat-Rex said. "When I was conducting an experiment, the Batcave collapsed. I was pinned under the ruins of the structure, with almost no chance of survival."

"At the very last moment, I uploaded my consciousness into the nearest mechanical Tyrannosaurus, and thus I became the Bat-Rex."

"See, I told you that title was the best." Bruce cheered.

"And you..." The Bat-Rex narrowed his eyes, looking at Bruce with a thoughtful expression. He said, "You are the apostle of the Great Lord? You are... younger than I imagined."

"You could just say he looks like an uneducated, wayward teenager." Diana sighed, complaining slightly to Bruce, "If you're going to pull this religious recruitment stunt, you should at least change into better clothes. Who goes down as a divine messenger wearing a hoodie?"

"This is our team's style." Bruce said, shrugging with his hands in his pockets. "Why so serious?"

As soon as those words were out, the Bat-Rex shuddered violently. Bruce, acting as if nothing had happened, said, "You should have received the email I sent you, right? Have you read the terms of employment?"

"Of course, but I'm not quite sure about the entrance exam you mentioned..."

"Don't worry too much about that." Bruce said. "It's just a simple little test. It definitely won't exceed your capabilities."

"You call this 'definitely won't exceed my capabilities'??!!!" The Bat-Rex roared over the communication channel. "Where did you find a Tyrannosaurus that can manipulate time???"

After he finished roaring, he looked at his opponent. It was a golden, smaller female Tyrannosaurus. Floating around her body were many clock-like discs. If any one of those discs replaced her head, this Tyrannosaurus could adjust the hands at will, including pausing, rewinding, and fast-forwarding time.

The Bat-Rex let out another roar, and the micro-armor hidden between the skin folds on the sides of his body deployed, making it look as if he had sprouted wings.

He stomped heavily again, shattering the surrounding ground. The rising dust caused the opposing Tyrannosaurus to temporarily lose sight of him. When her vision cleared, the Bat-Rex used the balancing organs on his sides to whip his tail fiercely at her.

The strike was powerful, the sound of it breaking the air clearly audible. But just as the tail, thicker than a large tree, was about to hit the female Tyrannosaurus, the clock face on her head suddenly stopped.

Within a radius of several hundred meters, time was pressed on pause. The female Tyrannosaurus walked out of the range of the tail attack unhurriedly, even shaking her head with ease, her face full of mockery.

But she seemed very interested in the Bat-Rex. Taking advantage of the time-pause effect, she walked slowly to the Bat-Rex's side, sniffed his head with her nose, and then sniffed his shoulder.

"What's wrong with them?" Gwen Spider-Man, who had just arrived, asked with some confusion. "Aren't they fighting? Why has one stopped moving, and the other..."

"Cole Norton is also a time manipulator." The Time Manipulator said. "She manipulates time in a more direct way than I do."

"How did she appear?" Shadow Spider-Man was more concerned with this question.

"She used to be David's alarm clock." The Time Manipulator explained. "It was a gift from Ms. Hali Lake for David's 10th birthday, from a popular toy store in Paris."

"She was a dinosaur toy that could be set the night before, announce the wake-up time by singing the next morning, and even run off the nightstand to dance on the floor."

"Actually, she has her own name, Penny Vick, but David didn't seem to remember it. In his memory, this little dinosaur alarm clock was 'Chronodon', so her name became Cole Norton."

"That's amazing." Gwen Spider-Man marveled. "It seems we viewed his personalities too much in isolation before. It turns out every personality has a reason for appearing."

"I understand the logic." Miles said. "But what's up with that black and white dinosaur? They aren't a couple's toy, are they?"

"That probably isn't one of David's personalities." The Time Manipulator shook his head. "He looks more like that guy in the red clothes from before."

"Don't tell me he's also a Batman."

"It seems he really is a Batman." Clark, observing all this through the Battleworld system, said, "Your charm isn't just effective on men and women; you can even charm dinosaurs."

"Honestly." Diana said, rubbing her chin, "There are several complete dinosaur skeletons on Themyscira. From my aesthetic point of view, the Bat-Rex is indeed a rather heroic and handsome male dinosaur."

"Too bad he still can't escape those short arms." Clark spread his hands and said, "What if his back itches? And is he going to throw Batarangs with those short arms?"

"You'd better not say that to his face, or he might take a bite out of you." Diana looked at Bruce and said, "Where are we going next?"

"To find another member of our team."

"God bless, I hope it's not another dinosaur."

"You seem to have an opinion about these reptilian creatures." Diana turned to look at Clark.

"I just can't help but tease them, but when I think that it's Batman, I feel like I'm doing something wrong. But I still want to tease them, even though it's wrong..."

"Let's be a bit more serious, boy." Diana looked at Bruce and said, "Otherwise, your good friend is going to be strangled by his own moral bottom line."

"Don't worry, this one is definitely serious." Bruce snapped his fingers and said, "Let's go, next stop."

After passing through the portal this time, they arrived in a world that seemed very advanced. The main reason was that the place where they landed looked like Metropolis, but the two people from Metropolis here couldn't be sure.

Because what appeared before them were trains speeding through the air, all kinds of convenient flying vehicles, high-tech buildings reaching into the clouds, floating islands, and patrolling robots.

Even stranger, these things seemed a bit chaotic. For example, the trains in the sky weren't running on established tracks, but were being operated by a pilot who looked panicked and flustered. There were far more people on the ground lamenting the non-functioning flying vehicles than those who had successfully flown them into the sky.

"What's wrong with them?" Diana walked down the street, puzzled. "They seem to possess these devices but don't know how to operate them. But that's impossible. Humans invent a device, learn to use it, and then pass the experience on to the next generation. That's how you develop. How could they build them and not know how to use them?"

"Unless they didn't build them." Bruce said, his gaze lingering on a small flying vehicle stuck between a signpost and a building. It looked completely wrecked, with a part hanging below by a wire.

A laser flash passed through Clark's eyes, and the wire was cut. The wire fell with a 'snap', and when he picked it up to look, sure enough: Wei En Enterprises.

"Is the Bruce Wei En of this universe okay?" Diana held the part, looking a bit worried. "If these people don't know how to use the equipment he manufactured, does that mean he has already..."

"It's not that simple." Bruce looked up at the skyline of the East Coast but couldn't find the familiar buildings. He said, "Before coming here, I send an entrance invitation email to the selected targets. I only come over after they reply to me. The fact that he could reply to the email means he's still alive."

"I'm more concerned about... where the Wei En Tower went." Bruce looked left and right, failing to find the familiar architecture, then looked at Clark and said, "Did you see it? Clark, where's my house?"

Clark soared into the air instantly, looking for a long time but finding nothing. However, his gaze soon settled on the only destroyed building. After landing, he said uncertainly, "I think I saw Wei En Tower just now, but... it's a wreck."

"Let's go, let's go over and take a look."

They soon flew to the wreckage and discovered that this was indeed the base of the Wei En Group. Unfortunately, it had been scorched, and some slogans painted in capital letters on the surrounding area explained what had happened here.

"Down with the evil tyrant Wei En! Humans should have freedom!"

"Electronic life is not the master of humanity! We want freedom!"

"Go to hell, Wei En! Give back to humans what belongs to humans!"

"Well, it seems the situation is indeed more complicated than we thought." Clark said, "Is the Wei En of this universe a robot? Does he use robots and mechanical equipment to rule humanity?"

"I'm afraid it's more than that." Diana said, "If it were rule, then he must be a wise monarch. Why don't you look at where this is?"

Clark frowned slightly, and only after careful recollection did he realize that although familiar buildings of Metropolis were not far away, they were currently standing on the land of Gotham.

Clark couldn't help but shudder. ===== CHAPTER 2393 =====
