Chapter 3: Transmigrating Again
If Shiler were to do a psychological profile of Batman in the comics, then his greatest trait wouldn't be caution, wisdom, or strategic planning, but suspicion.
Batman never completely trusts anyone.
His skepticism has become a school of its own; skepticism and conspiracy theories are already carved into his bones. He is as suspicious as he is intelligent.
Shiler's answer obviously made this young Batman fall into great suspicion.
Bruce had never thought that anyone could see through his heart. He had great confidence in his disguise. Even the old butler Alfred, who raised him from childhood, he felt only understood a part of him, and definitely not all of him.
But this professor, this psychology professor who looked like a completely ordinary, gentle person, gave him the most impossible answer, which was also the most accurate and incisive answer.
Until the moment he got this answer, the surging heat in Bruce's heart told him that he had indeed been waiting for someone to give him this answer—it was time to start his revenge.
But compared to the answer he received, the person who gave it made the revenge-seeking blood he had just ignited feel like it had been doused with a bucket of cold water. Bruce didn't believe—he never believed—that anyone could see the devil hidden in his heart, that group of shadows within shadows of bats, just by relying on psychology.
Shiler said, "Consultation time is up. I have to go teach. Goodbye, Mr. Wayne."
Shiler believed Bruce would definitely be struggling for a long time.
If he figured it out, he should hurry up and become Batman to uphold justice, and stop attending classes here. What other classes could Bruce possibly need to take? Why did he have to make things difficult for these hardworking faculty members?
Shiler felt he would likely figure it out. By then, those gangs and criminal organizations would be enough to give him a headache, so Shiler could nest in the school and happily slack off on a paid salary. At worst, he could fly to Hawaii during the holidays.
Shiler's reputation in school was not bad because his name was big, but that was all the original owner's resume. Shiler adhered to the principle of "doing as much work as the pay allows." He would start lecturing as soon as he sat down and disappear the moment the bell rang. After-class Q&A? That didn't exist.
He had been like this for these five days. Fortunately, the original Shiler seemed to be quite introverted and didn't have many friends. He had only been hired as a Cat Getan University professor a few months ago, and he wasn't very familiar with the people in school, so the transmigrator Shiler didn't reveal any flaws.
While eating in the afternoon, Peter sent a message: "Mr. Shiler, everything is just terrible."
Accompanied by a frustrated chat emoji, Shiler knew that this chat system wasn't brain-to-brain communication. Only he was using the system, while Peter had coincidentally met a netizen online, and Charles had received the message while browsing an education forum in his spare time.
The system would turn the chats with these characters into forms they could accept. For example, Peter used internet social software, while Charles used a knowledge forum. If it were Thanos, it might be some kind of cosmic network signal.
Therefore, the other party will not feel abrupt, and the system only guarantees that they will answer Shiler's first question; how the conversation proceeds afterward is up to Shiler himself, so Shiler's main conversation partner right now is the young, ignorant, and naive little Spider-Man.
Like an old fox like Charles, Shiler wouldn't easily probe without full certainty.
Shiler replied: "What's wrong, Peter? Things aren't going well with Gwen?"
"Oh, it's not going well, but 'terrible' doesn't refer to that."
"Then what is it? Don't tell me you messed up your experiment?"
"Sort of. I knocked over an experimental device that looked very dangerous. A... dangerous creature inside ran out, and I was bitten by it."
Shiler knew that Spider-Man's fate had been partially changed because of chatting with him. Through chatting, he knew the person on the other side was the Spider-Man from the 616 main comic universe. Originally, this high school student should have been bitten while attending an exhibition, but because Peter fell in love with Gwen and kept complaining to Shiler about how charming and cute his classmate Gwen was, Shiler was annoyed by this little chatterbox, so he gave him advice on how to pursue Gwen.
Gwen's family background was good, and she found an internship at Oscorp during the summer break. This originally had nothing to do with Peter, but Shiler suggested he be thick-skinned and apply for the same internship. Peter had good grades and actually got it. As a result, he wasn't bitten by the spider at the exhibition, but directly by a spider from an experimental device at Oscorp...
Anyway, he had to be bitten eventually, because Spider-Man was chosen by the Master Weaver in the Spider-Totem. If he wasn't bitten today, he would be bitten tomorrow. He had to take that bite one way or another. Shiler comforted the poor little Spidey and went to sleep.
Cat Getan's night was deep and thick, very suitable for sleeping. Bruce didn't sleep all night, looking at the moon that had almost lost its shape in the thick fog, holding a stack of files in his hand. The name on the first page was Shiler Andael Rodriguez.
Shiler was completely unaware that he had been thoroughly investigated by Batman. In his deep dream, he heard an alarm from the system, but he was sleeping too soundly. In his ignorance, a blue light swept over—
The system's alarm became more frequent, but Shiler still didn't wake up. It seemed something was hindering the system. Finally, after a chaotic sound, Shiler's figure disappeared directly.
"Emergency protection system activated. Locating universe... Locating universe... Receiving universe confirmed. Identity information writing... Writing... Writing failed... Writing... Writing successful."
When he woke up again, Shiler rubbed his eyes and was blinded by the sunlight. What the hell? Cat Getan City actually had a sunny day?
As soon as he pulled open the curtains—outside was the sunny... New York City.
Completely different from Cat Getan's shitty weather, New York was very clear and sunny, and it was very hot in the morning. Shiler looked out the window and found that he should be in a high-end apartment in downtown New York. He turned his head and saw a pile of messy things on his table, as well as wine bottles, with a work badge pressed under a wine bottle.
"Shiler, psychiatrist at New York Presbyterian Hospital... or attending physician? Did I transmigrate again?"
Damn it, Shiler thought. Before he could curse, his phone rang. He picked it up, and the person on the other side shouted: "Dr. Shiler! Where have you gone! You absolutely cannot be absent from today's joint consultation! Are you drunk again!! Please come over immediately!"
Shiler's ears hurt from the shock, but thinking that he was a doctor now, maybe there was a patient being rescued in such an emergency. Since he was here, he had to do the work.
Shiler immediately took his ID and went downstairs to find a car. There was no reason not to have a car living in such a high-end apartment. He found a fairly new Mercedes in the garage downstairs, which had the same model as his car key. He pressed it, and it actually opened.
Thanks to Shiler having conducted academic exchanges in New York in his previous life, combined with the navigation on the car, he arrived at Presbyterian Hospital, the largest hospital in New York, at the fastest speed.
As soon as he went in, the girl at the front desk ran over quickly and said: "Dr. Shiler, please hurry over, the joint consultation has already started."
Shiler didn't know what kind of persona he was now, so he just nodded coldly and went up.
Fortunately, someone was leading the way. Shiler arrived at the conference room all the way. Seeing him come, the conference room quieted down for a moment, and then continued to discuss. Shiler sat in the seat specially reserved for him and observed calmly.
It seemed he should be a quite famous doctor, and among the top few in his department. The person sitting opposite was obviously not from the psychiatry department. One of the doctors looked arrogant and said: "Indeed, it makes sense to let those experts who pretend to be gods and ghosts go see him first, so as not to have him pretend to be crazy and stupid again, wanting to touch the nurses on the operating table."
Shiler looked at his name tag: Shi Difen, Shi Difen Strange, Doctor Strange. Well, he had arrived in Marvel again.
Shiler couldn't be bothered to pay attention to him. Looking at Strange's appearance, he should still be a long way from the car accident. Right now, he was just an extremely selfish, annoying person, hated by everyone.
Shiler looked at the medical records without saying a word, but Strange found him an eyesore. For no other reason than that Shiler looked like he had been drinking the day before, and was late for the consultation the next day. Strange was a bit of a clean freak and couldn't stand Shiler's unprofessional attitude. Moreover, he had always felt that all psychiatrists were pretending to be gods and ghosts. In short, he was extremely disgusted with Shiler.
During the meeting, he kept picking on Shiler. Shiler recited from the book and ignored him completely. After the meeting, Strange even deliberately bumped into him.
Shiler was very annoyed by him, but thinking that he would eventually be taught a lesson, he estimated that it wouldn't be many years before his accident. If he weren't so annoying, Shiler would probably remind him, but now, let Strange walk the plot bitterly by himself.
Just after the consultation, Shiler opened his phone and received a call. The voice on the other end was a very nice female voice, but a bit anxious. She asked: "Dr. Shiler, has your consultation ended? Can you come to Stark Tower now? Tony is not doing well..."
Tony Stark?
What time should this be? Was Iron Man kidnapped? Or had he already returned?
Shiler didn't even have the time to search for information online, because the car from Stark Industries had already been sent to the hospital downstairs. He could only hurry into the car. A beautiful lady was sitting in the passenger seat, looking a bit business-like. She said: "Since Tony returned, you know, he was like this during the last diagnosis. He started throwing tantrums for no reason, doing those crazy things. I heard him crying last night..."
"Ms. Pepper? Are you okay?" Shiler asked tentatively. Pepper covered her eyes and said: "Sorry, but please be sure to be attentive for this treatment."
Shiler understood. Now it should be after Iron Man was kidnapped and returned, and then he learned that his company's weapons were used in unjust wars. And he, Shiler estimated, was the psychiatrist invited by Pepper because she was too worried during Stark's psychological struggle. ===== CHAPTER 4 =====
