Chapter 3086: Romantic

~11 min read 2,021 words

A portal opens, and Loki walks out. She scans the area, and her gaze lands on Mary's lower abdomen. She reveals a smile and says, "Congratulations to you both, she will be a beautiful little princess."

"Really? You just said little princess, right?" Harry is so excited he's about to jump up. He says, "I'm going to have a daughter, right?"

Loki doesn't say anything more. The group follows her into the portal, but the portal doesn't open in the backyard; it opens in front of the Stone House.

"You're becoming more and more thoughtful," Shiler says in a low voice.

"Venom and Tony got into a fight. They want to clean up the crime scene before you get back," Loki also says in a low voice.

"Fine, I'll indulge them," Shiler rolls his eyes and says. "We can't let the expectant mother see such a chaotic scene. Let's sit at the bar for a while, and you tell them to hurry up and clean."

Loki leaves quickly. Shiler first takes Harry and Mary to tour the house, and then they sit at the bar. Looking at the radiant Mary, he says with some emotion:

"People's constitutions are truly different. If Ms. Carter were as healthy as you, that would be great."

"Oh, right," Harry suddenly remembers something. He takes a gift box out of the bag on top of his suitcase and says, "I heard the Captain's fiancée is pregnant, so we prepared a gift."

"What is it?" Shiler asks. This isn't considered impolite in the United States, because the gift would be opened in front of them later anyway.

"A Harpers Ferry Model 1805, a U. S. Army pistol. It's a collector's edition covered in gold leaf. I found it in my dad's collection."

After saying this, he opens the gift box. Shiler sees a very beautiful, streamlined pistol lying in the box. The barrel has the forging patterns of steel, the grip is made of beautiful walnut wood, and it is inlaid with gold leaf. More importantly, it is in brand-new condition without any signs of use, which is very rare among 17th-century pistol collectibles.

"My God, Steve will go crazy," Peter says. "No one can refuse this pistol."

"Yes," Harry says triumphantly. "And the most precious thing is that this is a peace gun. It hasn't been fired since it was produced. I prepared this specifically for Captain America."

Now Shiler knows that this gun must have been prepared by Old Osborn.

Steve doesn't actually like weapons very much, because he has truly participated in war and understands how much bloodshed and casualties these things have caused.

But the gun Harry brought, on one hand, is very different from modern pistol designs; the barrel is longer, and the connection to the grip is streamlined, making it look not like a killing weapon, but more like an elegant dinner knife.

What's even rarer is that it hasn't been fired and hasn't harmed anything, which leaves Steve with absolutely no reason to refuse it.

Only Old Osborn could send such a tricky gift. It seems his health is truly not very good; he has already started paving the way for his son.

Then Harry turns to Peter, takes a box out of another suitcase, and says to Peter, "The spider that bit you back then can't be found anymore, but I had the researchers and cleaners catch every spider that has appeared in our company..."

After saying this, he opens the box. The box is divided into small compartments, and in each compartment is a spider.

After looking at it, Peter covers his forehead and says, "I can understand the others, but why is there a tarantula? Are you trying to let it eat my fingers?"

Harry looks down at the compartment and says, "Ah, sorry, that's one of our recent animal test subjects. You know about the biological riot that happened in the Andromeda Galaxy. The mutants contacted the Osborn Group to do research, and this is one of the samples they sent over. I thought it might be useful to you, so I brought it along."

"Biological riot?" Shiler frowns slightly and asks, "Do you know exactly what's going on?"

Harry thinks for a moment and says, "The first half was always handled by my father, but he hasn't been well lately and was hospitalized. I've only talked to them on the phone a few times."

"According to them, strange mutations have occurred in the creatures on several planets in the Andromeda Galaxy, and they have become extremely aggressive. The mutants they sent to the planets to obtain resources and samples were attacked, and they are currently investigating this matter."

"The mutants don't have many technical means, and they can't figure out what's going on, so they came to the Osborn Group for help. You know we have a lot of research in biotechnology. They captured some samples of mutated creatures and sent them over, and our laboratory is currently conducting research."

"Is this spider also a sample? Does the Andromeda Galaxy also have tarantulas?"

"That's not it. This spider was just injected with the body fluids of the mutated animals, but it has already passed the observation period and was judged to have no abnormalities; otherwise, I wouldn't have dared to bring it all the way here."

Considering there are so many children here, Shiler still checks it with gray mist and finds that it is indeed as Harry said—just an ordinary tarantula with no mutations and no aggression; it just looks scary.

But even if it had any aggression, it probably wouldn't be able to withstand a bite from Helen. If it really comes to it, he'll just let Helen swallow it later.

Mary sits on the side with a calm expression; clearly, she isn't afraid of these. She asks Peter with some concern, "Are you sure you want to let a spider bite you again? There are quite a few poisonous spiders in here."

Peter was quite confident before the spiders were transported over, but now he is a bit uncertain.

At the time, being bitten was completely an accident; he didn't even see what the spider looked like, so he didn't have such a big psychological burden. But now, having to actively let a spider bite him, he really can't bring himself to do it.

The main reason Shiler isn't stopping him is that if Peter could really attribute his recovery of superpowers to being bitten by a spider, it would save Shiler a lot of trouble. However, it looks like Peter has backed out.

"I don't think there's any scientific basis for doing this," Harry shakes his head and says. "Since your abilities have already partially recovered, it means that what made your abilities recover isn't the spider's venom. If you let them bite you again, you might not necessarily recover more."

Harry's words clearly remind Peter. To prevent the topic from going any deeper, Shiler says, "We also have a mutant doctor here. He should know the situation in the Andromeda Galaxy. I think maybe we can call him over to chat?"

Just at this moment, Loki returns to the house and says, "The backyard has been cleaned up. It's better not to let them play on the trampoline; they're all covered in mud. When are we leaving for the golf course?"

"Then let's go now."

Everyone gathers in front of the Stone House. To prevent the previous situation of leaving things behind, this time they use a portal directly, which is also better for the pregnant woman.

Mary naturally sees Carter. Carter's condition is still the same; she vomits everything she eats and has to use nutritional fluids to maintain her health.

Seeing Carter in such discomfort, Steve is actually a bit shaken, but as the saying goes, they both want children. If they don't have one this time, who can guarantee that the next time will be better? What if she has to suffer again?

Mary hands the gift to Steve. Steve is indeed pleasantly surprised. He actually wants to seek some scientific help to see if he can solve Carter's problem through technological means, so he makes an appointment with Harry to visit the Osborn Group after this trip.

After arriving at the golf course, everyone's spirits are lifted. It is very wide and flat, stretching as far as the eye can see, with green grasslands and rolling hills. The air is filled with the moist scent of grass.

Stark, Matt, and Nick are quite keen on playing golf. Although Shiler knows how to play, he isn't a fan, and the others are indifferent.

Beast is clearly more interested in the situation in the Andromeda Galaxy. In the lounge at the edge of the golf course, they sit in front of a floor-to-ceiling window discussing the experimental results.

"... These data are completely fine," Harry says. "Whether it's blood, body fluids, venom, or cells, no abnormalities appeared after transplantation. We suspect that the genes of these creatures might have problems."

"I think so too," Dr. Beast says. "If the other party injected them with poison to make them mutate, the mutants would have discovered it long ago. Although our technical level isn't high, we have many inspection methods that ordinary people don't have."

"Moreover, the entire Andromeda Galaxy is under Magneto's control. Who could sneak in and inject poison one by one? It's not just one or two animals rioting, but the entire ecosystem of more than 20 planets. The mastermind couldn't possibly be modifying them one by one; it's more likely that they spread a virus among them."

"The problem lies in the transmission route," Harry says. "These 20-plus planets are far apart, and the time of the virus outbreak is also very random. My father tends to believe that someone is indeed playing tricks behind the scenes, but this infection is planet-based."

Beast falls into deep thought. He feels Harry's words make sense. Although the mastermind might not be able to inject the virus into every animal, they could completely spread the infection on one planet and then go to another planet to poison it. If it's planet-based, it would be much simpler.

"My father also thinks this might be the work of the three major empires," Harry says, stroking his chin. "I think so too. The expansion of the mutants is a threat to the three major empires. They will inevitably do their best to cause trouble for you."

"Among the three major empires, only the Shi'ar Empire is good at biotechnology, but we can guarantee that it wasn't them who did it," Beast says.

What he didn't tell Harry is that the reason they are so confident is that the Queen of the Shi'ar Empire has been replaced by Mystique, who is one of their own. Of course, they couldn't have done it.

Although the other two empires also have advanced technology, they aren't good at this aspect. Of course, it's not ruled out that they suddenly developed this technology and are using the mutants as test subjects.

Thinking of this, Beast suddenly has some inspiration. He says, "Do you think it's possible that the Kree Empire and the Skrull Empire have always wanted to study biotechnology and have always been conducting biological experiments in the universe, and are just taking the opportunity to deal with the mutants to test their new biochemical weapons?"

Harry shakes his head and says, "I don't think it's likely to be a biological experiment. The news from the Osborn Group's researchers is that this is a very mature technology."

"How so?"

"Our comprehensive testing of the biological samples didn't detect any problems. This means that certain things might be precisely acting on a certain part without polluting other parts. This is a manifestation of mature technology."

Beast frowns deeply. The Osborn Group's conclusion means that this matter is probably even more complicated than he thought.

Suddenly, Professor X's voice rings in Beast's mind.

"Hank, I'm afraid you need to come over. A mutant has been infected." ===== CHAPTER 3087 =====
