Chapter 3337: Farm Adventure (Part 1)
California, 6:23 AM.
The Pacific tide ground the first ray of light in the California morning into crushed gold, seeping into the farm through the cracks in the dilapidated wooden boardwalk. Outside the old garage, the crisp echoes of wind chimes and seagull calls collided.
Jason pushed the door and walked out of the garage, water droplets condensed from morning mist sticking to his hair and eyelashes, his boots stepping over the edge of the muddy field ridge. When he saw that string of raccoon footprints, he couldn't help but curse.
"Dick! Dick! Look at the good thing you did." Jason pointed at the footprints, turned his head and shouted loudly, "I said the car wasn't fixed yet and couldn't be driven, you insisted on driving it. You also crashed the fence, raccoons ran in, the ingredients for the ice cream machine I prepared must have been stolen by it!"
Dick, carrying a shovel covered in mud, was digging the fence that had been crushed by the car yesterday out of the mud. Hearing Jason's shout, he threw the shovel aside, pulled up his pants, and while lowering his head to tie the belt made of hemp rope, said: "Blame me for trusting your car repair level too much, alright?"
"You trusted too early," Jason said, "I said it would take another night to fix, you wouldn't listen! Originally we could have eaten delicious ice cream today..."
"Alright, stop complaining." Dick interrupted him, "That old broken hand-cranked ice cream machine doesn't know if it can be used yet. We still have to fix the car first."
Tim's shout came from inside the garage: "It can start! You guys come over and take a look!"
The two ran over hurriedly, and Tim was pushing the car door and getting off. Seeing the mud sticking to their ankles, he revealed a disgusted expression and hurriedly tucked his pant legs into his boots.
Dick patted the dust on his hands, pulled open the car door and sat in, and twisted the car key. The car shook violently, but it looked like it had no intention of starting at all.
"Oh, dog shit! Still not fixed!" Dick hadn't finished scolding when he was pulled out by Jason. Jason sat in himself, held the steering wheel with one hand, twisted the key with the other, only heard a "chi-la" sound, and the car started successfully.
"Cut." Dick said with some disdain, "Then you will be responsible for driving and transporting goods in the future, God bless the fence on the farm."
Jason ignored him, turned his head left and right with some excitement, backed the car out of the garage, and then slowly adjusted the angle. Just as he intended to drive the car out, Harley rushed over carrying a large megaphone made of palm leaves, lay outside the fence, and shouted at him:
"Are you deaf?! Jason Todd! The road outside hasn't been repaired yet. If you drive the car out now, you will only get the tires stuck in the puddle, and then splash mud all over everyone!!!"
"It won't, you have to believe in my driving skills." Jason insisted on turning the steering wheel and drove out from the side of the garage courtyard. Then he was shaken violently, and his butt was lifted directly from the seat.
"Ah! Damn it!" Tim, who chased after him, blocked his front with his arms. The moment the car tire stepped into the puddle, he was splashed with mud and water all over.
The tire was indeed stuck, Jason got out of the car to check, and found that one side of the car was high and the other was low. The right rear wheel was stuck in the mud pit, spinning idly and powerlessly.
He hurriedly dodged the palm leaves thrown by Harley.
"How did this broken farm get like this." Dick couldn't help but complain, "Was the original farm owner a dinosaur? How could he step on the road like this? Dr. Schiller must have been pitted by them!"
"Don't say, the shape of this puddle really looks a bit like a dinosaur footprint." Tim said after looking over, "It's just much bigger than that. It looks like a giant dinosaur."
"Hurry up and get the car back." Harley said, "The sea hurricane is about to make landfall, and the doctor hasn't returned yet. If you don't plan to hide back in the Stone House, we have to take care of our cabin first, there is no time to waste!"
The three boys worked together to lift the car's tires out of the puddle, and pushed the car all the way back to the garage.
Dick was cleaning up the scattered repair tools, and when he turned his head, he found Jason and Tim tying the old hand-cranked ice cream machine to the cart.
"Do you guys have to move this thing back?" Dick patted his forehead and said, "The ingredients are already gone, what are you going to use to make ice cream?"
"If the ingredients are gone, we can buy them again. The hurricane won't affect Raven using teleportation magic to go to Los Angeles to buy things."
Dick sighed helplessly, but Jason and Tim were too excited. He could only walk over and help them tighten the rope together.
The weather in California during the rainy season is changeable. It was sunny when they woke up, and there were dark clouds pressing down in less than an hour. When they pushed the cart out, a strong wind blew, and then it started to rain.
The unrepaired dirt road turned into a swamp in just a few minutes. The flip-flops Jason was wearing seemed to be stuck to the ground, and only Tim, who was wearing waterproof boots, could barely run.
"Oh, God's dog shit!" Jason suddenly screamed, fell to the ground on his side. Dick and Tim hurriedly helped him up, Jason covered his ankle and screamed in pain.
With a "swish" sound, a golden light flashed. Barry, holding a tattered canvas umbrella, appeared in front of several people. Dick hurriedly took the umbrella from his hand and covered Tim and Jason under it.
"The teleportation portal is here!" Raven's voice sounded in their ears, and the teleportation portal emitting purple light arrived suddenly.
In the strong wind, several people helped each other and walked into the teleportation portal. A large mass of wet things fell into the center of the living room that had just been cleaned, causing a scream from Pamela who was holding a broom in front of the fireplace.
"Oh my god, what's wrong?!" Pamela put the broom aside, walked over and said, "Jason, what's wrong with you?"
Jason grinned in pain, covered his ankle and said: "I think I twisted my foot."
"Yes, it's easy to see." Pamela looked at Jason's ankle, which was swollen like a big bun, and said, "I'm just asking how you twisted it."
"They two insisted on pushing that broken ice cream machine!" Dick raised his voice and said.
"It's you guys who didn't wear waterproof boots properly!" Tim immediately retorted, "When you knew it would rain, you should have changed into boots!"
"Stop talking about this." Barry frowned and said, "Hurry up and get some ice cubes to apply cold compress to reduce swelling, and then apply some medicine."
"He looks more like the oldest one among you." Harley said unhappily, "After knowing it would rain, you shouldn't have gone to the garage at all! What magic does that broken car '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea' have?"
Cassandra was obviously woken up by the movement downstairs, and she was stunned for a moment when she saw so many people gathered at the bottom of the building. And Blue Beetle, who also just came out of the room, came to the crowd with a holographic flash, almost knocking Tim over.
"Oh, sorry. I'm not very proficient yet." Ted said.
Jason was helped to the sofa and lay down, Harley walked over to check his injury. After carefully checking the condition of his ankle, she shook her head and said: "No cure, amputate it."
Jason threw a pillow over.
Harley then put away her gloating expression, cleared her throat and said seriously: "This twist is not light. But the evacuation notice for the hurricane's arrival was issued last night, and the community hospital must not be open. Now either go to Los Angeles to see a doctor, or handle it first and see the situation."
Tim looked at the ankle that was swollen very severely, frowned deeply and said: "I think we still have to go to Los Angeles. I heard the doctor say before that it seems we can hire a flying shuttle with a mobile phone. Should I call one?"
"No." Jason refused, he said, "That's very expensive, and you might not be able to check immediately after going, you guys don't want to go to the emergency room, right?"
Pamela went to get ice cubes, tied them in a bag to Jason's ankle, and then said: "It's better to judge the bone condition after the swelling subsides. If the bone is not injured, then there is no need to go to the hospital."
"It seems we can only do this for now." Dick shook his head and said, "I'll go get you some dry clothes."
Jason was still not honest lying on the sofa, stretched out his arm and shouted at Tim: "Move our ice cream machine in. Don't let the hurricane blow it away!"
The weather is getting worse and worse. The strong wind that is difficult to judge the level blew the palm trees outside the window to the point of crumbling. The wooden structure house could not resist such a powerful hurricane at all. It was Pamela who pulled the foundation with vines, and Ted used the holographic reality ability to fix the house on the foundation, so it barely didn't get blown away.
The time hiding from the rain in the house was flat and boring. Jason fell asleep on the sofa, making a faint snoring sound. Turning over from time to time, he was uncomfortable being pulled by the ankle that was fixed and couldn't move, and made dissatisfied murmurs in his mouth.
Harley and Pamela pulled Cassandra to play cards in front of the fireplace. The firewood crackled. Ted and Barry played online farm games with holographic screens, deliberately lowering their voices to communicate about the plants to be planted.
Dick and Raven were talking about love in front of the foyer. And Tim pricked up his ears while fiddling with the ice cream machine in the kitchen, listening to the gossip in their university dormitory.
Just like this, they spent an afternoon. Until Harley's phone rang, and when she heard the familiar voice on the other side, she threw the cards on the table and stood up and said: "Doctor! You are finally coming back!!"
Everyone else was alarmed and gathered around one after another. The gentle voice of Schiller came from the other end of the phone: "Yes, we are rushing back from Los Angeles. We are planning to pack some things at the restaurant later. What do you want to eat?"
"I want to eat tacos!" Ted raised his hand and shouted first, "No tomatoes, no internal organs. Add more chili!"
"Is there any spicy hot dog?" Pamela leaned over and asked, "I never eat this thing in Gotham, but I want to eat it as soon as I leave."
"I'm losing weight. A vegetable salad with fruit juice. Pack the sauce separately." Harley said, "If there is Italian meat sauce pizza, bring me one, double cheese, I'll eat it after the meal."
They said what they wanted to eat one after another. And Schiller's voice sounded a bit helpless: "Children... children! I'm not at a street snack stall. This is one of the most expensive restaurants in Los Angeles, Michelin three-star!"
Everyone looked at me and I looked at you. Harley rubbed her hands first and said: "Doctor, this is not good, is it a bit too extravagant?"
"Forget it." Schiller said, "I'll pack some back according to my taste, you just need to tell me if you eat spicy or not. By the way, I brought a guest this time. Clean up the room properly."
"Guest? Who? Is it the superhero here? Is it Captain America?"
They got excited again. After hanging up the phone, they discussed who was coming while cleaning the living room. Although most of them had met the superheroes here in the Battleworld, most of the other party was fully armed, and they hadn't seen the daily appearance of Marvel heroes yet.
Not long after, the buzzing sound of the flying shuttle sounded over the farm, the sound of the car engine stopped abruptly beside the wooden house, and the sound of stomping feet came from the doormat at the door.
With a "creak", the door opened. Schiller walked in carrying large and small plastic bags, and everyone gathered around curiously, but the face that appeared behind Schiller was surprisingly familiar.
"Bruce?!"
