Chapter 3550: Edge of Tomorrow (7)

~11 min read 2,128 words

" 'Brainiac Support Association'? What kind of ghost organization is this?" Victor looked at the poster posted on the campus bulletin board and showed a disgusted expression.

Schiller stood beside him and naturally saw the poster too. In the center of the poster was Brainiac's green bald head, and two lines of words were written next to it: one was "Follow Brainiac, create a beautiful new Earth", and the other was "Join the Brainiac Support Association now, we will help you solve all the troubles in life".

"Sounds like a housekeeping advertisement," Schiller evaluated truthfully.

"It is a bit. Does our school allow preaching?"

"I have never heard of relevant rules," Schiller shook his head. The two walked into the activity building together.

Schiller didn't feel that this was any surprise. In all parts of the world, in all dynasties, there is no lack of surrender factions and traitors. Brainiac's theory can barely be self-consistent, so naturally, there will be people willing to follow him.

It's just that this poster was posted to Cat Getan University, indicating that there are quite a few teachers and students who support him. I don't know if they really want the super artificial intelligence to descend on Earth, or just think supporting this green bald head is fashionable and fun.

Judging from the daily performance of teachers and students at Cat Getan University, it is more likely the latter. Not to mention Cat Getan University, the entire city of Cat Getan reveals a temperament of fearing that the world will not be chaotic.

Walking to the window, sitting down while unbuttoning his suit, Schiller picked up the newspaper casually. As a result, the headline was that green bald head again.

"What is it talking about?" Victor picked up the cigar box and asked.

"Seems like some of his supporters have started to take to the streets," Schiller scanned it slightly, turned to the next edition, and sure enough saw the scene of the parade and demonstration.

"It won't be Diamond Street, right?"

"Besides there, where else could it be?" Schiller sneered and said, "Because the stock market plummeted, the poor people who have nothing left are waiting for the visitors from heaven to balance their debts."

"I just said this set doesn't work," Victor said, "There are indeed many poor people in this world who are forced, but there is also a big group of self-inflicted financial speculators. Why should they average other people's wealth to wipe their butts?"

"This group of people is the loudest," Schiller looked at the newspaper again and said, "They paraded and demonstrated just to let the Justice League show up, so that they can replace them to negotiate with Brainiac, hoping that after Brainiac descends, he will help them pay off their debts, and it is best to give them a large sum, let them continue to throw into the stock market to hit the water."

Victor shook his head and sighed.

Just at this moment, Schiller suddenly thought of something. He said: "Where are Barry's parents?"

"Their house is bought at the junction of the East District and the South District, not very far from your house. What's wrong?"

"We have to go there," Schiller stood up and said, "I'm afraid someone will find their house."

Victor also frowned, stood up with Schiller, and said while walking out: "Shouldn't be, right? Although Flash doesn't wear a uniform, he has always worn a mask, not so easy to be recognized, and he has never announced his true identity."

"If it's just ordinary people looking for him, it's indeed not so easy. Even the government and law enforcement agencies may not have any way to deal with Gothamites. But the hyenas on Diamond Street can do anything."

Schiller walked faster and faster, got in the car at the fastest speed, and rushed toward the junction of the East District and the South District.

The definition and status of Cat Getan's Diamond Street are equivalent to New York's Wall Street. Basically, as long as the word "finance" is mentioned, people will think of Diamond Street first.

The high-rise buildings of Diamond Street have cast the dreams of countless speculators, but they have also become their burial grounds. Since the Great Depression, the suicide of losers has not counted as news. During the period when stocks fell the most, it was normal for hundreds to jump down in a day.

In the DC world, if there is anyone who can be crazier and more terrifying than super criminals, it is probably the gamblers who have lost their eyes.

Before Brainiac arrived, once they lost their bets, they had only one fate: to become human acrobats. Even if they didn't jump themselves, their creditors would help them jump.

But now, Brainiac has arrived, and he claims he will distribute global wealth equally, allowing everyone to live a prosperous life.

For ordinary poor people, poverty is bearable because they were born poor and have always lived a life of scraping by; living like that for a few more days is no big deal. So, they aren't that anxious.

But for this group of speculators who once lived in glory, poverty is unbearable. Because they have seen the scenery from the peak and enjoyed a life of luxury, staying in the mud pit of poverty for even one more second makes them feel like they are going insane. They are the ones who are truly anxious.

In order to make Brainiac fulfill his promise, this group of people will do anything.

Since Brainiac has specifically demanded that the Justice League come forward to negotiate, they will dig three feet into the ground to unearth the members of the Justice League.

Politicians in Congress still have different factions and stances, and there is still arguing over whether to oppose Brainiac. Most politicians also want to protect their reputations and don't want to be caught by political rivals, so even if they use small tricks, they remain relatively restrained.

But the speculators on Diamond Street won't. As long as they can return to a life of being above others, they will do anything.

If they can't find the members of the Justice League, they will go after their families; if they can't find their families, they will threaten their friends and classmates. Riots, defamation, kidnapping, and even murder—there is nothing these gamblers won't do.

They aren't even afraid of death anymore, so what else would they be afraid of?

Among the Justice League, there aren't many who still have both parents living. There are even fewer whose parents both live in Cat Getan and are just ordinary citizens. Barry's parents are among them.

Although the Flash is an anonymous hero, Barry rarely wears his uniform; most of the time, he wears casual clothes paired with a mask or face covering. Anyway, he has his iconic golden lightning; as long as he appears, people can tell who he is, so what he wears is actually unimportant.

Ordinary people certainly can't see through this level of disguise. But those who can mix into Diamond Street have some connections. When this group was in their prime, they had quite a few channels, and although they can't use many now, "doxing" someone is still relatively simple.

Once Barry's identity is uncovered, it's even easier to investigate his social interactions and kinship relations. The best way to threaten him into appearing is to create a kidnapping case exposed to the public.

As long as he learns the news of his parents being kidnapped from the media, he will naturally show up. One can even use his parents to threaten him, to fight for more benefits for certain people during negotiations.

While driving, Shiler called Gordon and obtained Barry's specific home address, but he did not ask the Cat Getan Police Department to send a car over.

If the other party had already taken action, the police probably couldn't do anything; if the other party hadn't taken action yet, Shiler and Victor could naturally solve it.

The car stopped in front of a two-story house. This was one of the last batches of buildings constructed in the East End, belonging to the East End's villa area.

Although it's called a villa area, it's just distinct from the continuous high-rise city; in reality, they are just ordinary two-story houses, and those who live here are basically the middle class of the East End.

When Shiler got out of the car, he saw that the courtyard gate was open. Victor pulled out his freeze gun immediately. The two rushed to the door at top speed.

The door opened with a push; it wasn't locked at all. The living room was empty, with vases and bookshelves scattered on the floor—it was clear someone had been here.

Victor rushed to the second floor in two strides, then stood at the top of the stairs and shook his head at Shiler, signaling that there was no one upstairs.

"Garage." Shiler mouthed.

He and Victor went one after the other, one entering from the main garage door, the other from the side door.

As soon as the side door opened, Victor raised his freeze gun, and then he saw the Allen couple tied up in the car.

Shiler hurried over to open the car door and tore the tape off Barry's father's mouth.

"Thank God!" He stumbled out of the car. Shiler untied the ropes on his hands, and he hurried back to carry his wife out.

"Call the police, hurry and call the police!" Mr. Allen was clearly still shaken, his voice trembling as he said, "That group went to get something, they will be back soon. Hurry and call the police!"

"Click!" A sound came from the front door. Both Mr. and Mrs. Allen showed expressions of terror in their eyes.

Shiler did not take out his phone; he walked to the other side of the car, began to loosen his tie, and gave Victor a look.

Victor understood and walked to the garage door, standing behind it with his gun in both hands. The Allen couple hid behind the car.

The door was pushed open.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

Two of the three shots hit, and two people were knocked to the ground. The last person cursed and turned to run, but was immediately strangled by Shiler, who rushed out from the other side of the car.

Shiler didn't hold back; the crisp sound of the spine snapping instantly made one's scalp tingle.

The Allen couple wanted to come out from behind the car, but Shiler turned his head and said to them, "Don't move, you go back into the car first."

The two had no choice but to open the back door of the car and sit inside, watching with some terror as Shiler and Victor dragged the three people into their own living room.

"What now?" Victor asked.

Shiler didn't speak. He just turned and walked to the kitchen to get a sharp fruit knife, made the corpse he was dragging face the same direction as him, strangled the neck with one hand, and held the knife with the other, stabbing the corpse's chest and abdomen a dozen times with force.

Instantly, blood splattered all over the living room.

Shiler threw the corpse aside and said to Victor, "Untie this one."

He was looking at one of the ice sculptures Victor had frozen. Although the person was trapped in the ice, they were still conscious, and after seeing Shiler's actions, they showed an expression of extreme terror.

Shiler didn't waste words with him; he picked up the table lamp from the side table, and taking advantage of the stiffness during the moment the freezing was lifted, he smashed it onto the back of the person's head with a "bang."

The person tried to crawl up after being smashed down, but there was too much blood on the floor, and they slipped to the ground as soon as they struggled. Shiler still used all his strength, and the second blow directly smashed out their brains.

The third person had their throat slit by Shiler and was used like a sprinkler, spraying the whole room with blood. Most of the living room floor, ceiling, and furniture were covered in a thick layer of blood plasma.

The two stood outside the blood spray range, leaving no footprints, circled out from the backyard, arrived at the garage again, and sat in the driver's and passenger's seats respectively.

"Let's go, I'll take you to a safe place." Shiler said.

While driving, Shiler took out his phone, dialed a number, and said, "Hello? Is that J'onn? Could you please come over? My home address is..."
