Chapter 3554: Edge of Tomorrow (Part 11)

~11 min read 2,078 words

"Let me share my thoughts first." Harley said. "Since we have combat personnel, we first need an equipment area with all kinds of professional gear, like firearms, knives, and vehicles."

Deathstroke nodded and said: "That's true. Get me two handy weapons, that's better than anything else."

Harley took a piece of paper from the side and said: "Write down what kind of weapons you each need. It's best to be specific about the model and quantity, and I'll have someone go buy them."

"But you'd better take it easy. I can't get heavy weapons here, and even if I could, it'd be hard to transport them in. If Gordon catches us, he'll definitely start nagging again."

Deathstroke was clearly very interested in equipment and weapons; he had "I want to use public funds to get myself some private goods" written all over his face, and with a flourish of his pen, he began writing frantically.

Harley also gave paper to the others. However, it was clear that the others had no interest in weapons and equipment, because they were either not the type for frontal combat, or they could beat people up without weapons, so naturally, they didn't need any firearms.

"Aren't you writing?" Shiler asked Jack in a low voice.

"You expect me to use a rifle to hit people?" Jack asked him in return.

"Didn't you hear? Equipment can include vehicles. If you don't change to a new car now, when will you?"

Jack's eyes lit up instantly, but then he looked at Harley somewhat bashfully and asked: "Any vehicle is fine?"

"You want to buy a truck? That's fine too; we can use it to transport things anyway. But don't buy anything too exaggerated; if you break the road surface, Gordon will still come looking for trouble with me."

Jack immediately began writing away.

Shiler thought about it. After the skills were generalized, he actually knew how to use guns, but neither the agent nor the other Shilers were very good at using pistols.

Pistols were a bit of a chicken rib for Shiler. If he was already at a distance where a pistol could hit, then rushing over to knife someone would be more proficient and lower risk; and if he was at a distance where he couldn't rush over, a pistol probably wouldn't hit anyway.

Moreover, most pistols, unless you could get a headshot, had very limited lethality. At least in the ten-plus years Shiler had been watching, all the gunshot wounds that people survived were caused by pistols; he had never heard of anyone surviving a shot from a shotgun or a sniper rifle.

Shiler thought about it and decided to have Harley get him a sniper rifle.

In his previous life, he had used sniper rifles; after all, there were many occasions where he couldn't sneak in, or close-quarters knifing was too easy to be discovered, so a sniper rifle was a good choice.

Victor raised an eyebrow as he looked at the firearm name he wrote, looking at him with some shock, his expression meaning "You know how to do this?"

Then he said with some excitement: "Actually, I wanted to research freezing sniper bullets before, but I only know how to use pistols. If you know how to snipe, I think we can cooperate..."

Shiler thought about it and felt that what Victor said made sense. After all, sometimes they needed to capture people alive, and long-range sniping combined with freezing bullets was indeed the first choice for capturing people.

Victor thought for a moment and said: "I can move some of the equipment from my low-temperature lab over, and then buy some raw materials..."

He began writing down the raw materials needed to make freezing bullets. Pamela took a look and said: "Then can the materials I need to make plant weapons be reimbursed?"

"Yes!" Harley waved her hand and said generously: "As long as it's a weapon we can use, whether it's a finished product or raw material, it can be reimbursed!"

Cobblepot and Harvey had even fewer thoughts about weapons; they weren't planning to fight at all, so they just wrote down whatever. Harvey wanted a computer and a printer, and Cobblepot wanted a new suit and cufflinks.

After everyone finished writing, Harley collected the papers and took photos with her phone, clearly arranging for someone to go shopping.

After a moment of thought, Shiler said: "I think we should group up. We should divide into a command group, a combat group, and a logistics group; that would be more efficient."

"Makes sense." Harley nodded and said: "We are a professional villain organization; the key is that we must be more professional than the Justice League!"

"The fact that we can sit here and have such a long meeting already makes us more professional than the Justice League." Pamela said. "If you let them write this stuff, they'd write down all the toilet paper, laundry bags, and toilet cleaner they'd use for the next year."

"Then let's take a vote by show of hands." Harley raised a hand and said: "Those who want to join the command group, please raise your hands!"

Harvey and Cobblepot both raised their hands, and Harley raised hers too. Victor wanted to raise his hand, but seeing Shiler didn't, he didn't either.

"Alright, the command group has three people, not bad. Then what about the combat group? Who wants to join the combat group?"

Pamela, Waylon, and Deathstroke all raised their hands. Victor saw Shiler still didn't raise his hand, so he asked him in a low voice: "Are you joining the logistics group? Sounds like it'll be very busy."

Shiler shook his head and didn't speak.

"The combat group also has three people... then what about the logistics group?"

Shiler, Victor, and Jack all raised their hands.

"Great, so each group has three people, very balanced. Then let's define the scope of responsibilities."

"The command group makes plans and directs operations; the combat group is responsible for fieldwork; the logistics group is responsible for providing support and managing the base. How about that?"

The others had no objections to this arrangement. For the sake of a 500,000 annual salary, everyone's enthusiasm was quite high. Pamela took the initiative and said: "I think we can take on a job to break in the team. Do you have any channels, Harley?"

"How did you know I was already prepared?" Harley revealed a mysterious smile and said: "Do you know about the Brainiac Support Society?"

"You mean that housekeeping company?" Shiler frowned slightly and said: "They even posted flyers at school."

"That's right, but that's no housekeeping company. How should I put it? This thing is a cult."

"Not surprising, but how did you know?"

"Of course, because they contacted me." Harley rolled her eyes and told the others about her experience two days ago.

Harley majored in psychology in college, but her grades were excellent; basically, she was first in her grade in every subject, and she had basically completed all her credits, so she used the rest of her campus time to join clubs.

She joined many clubs, such as the painting club, reading club, skateboarding club, and music club. However, the club she liked going to most was the rock club, and she served as the drummer in the Cat Getan University rock club's band.

Usually, when attending class, Harley rarely showed her lively side, giving people the feeling that she was quite quiet; but in the band, she showed her rock side. This contrast gave her many pursuers, and the band's bassist was one of them.

Harley had no interest in dating, so she rejected every pursuer equally. But not everyone was polite enough to give up decisively after being rejected. The bassist belonged to the group that wouldn't take no for an answer.

About two days ago, their band was rehearsing, and the bassist was whispering to others there, not letting Harley listen.

How could such a small trick affect Harley? She simply ignored everyone and put on her headphones to rehearse.

Sure enough, the other party couldn't sit still first. The bassist and the female lead singer walked to the side of the drum kit, and after whispering for a while, the bassist finally spoke: "Harley, have you heard the news about Brainiac?"

Harley reluctantly gave him a look, meaning "What's it to you?"

The bassist might have felt he had lost face, so he started rambling about Brainiac, going on and on about how amazing the artificial intelligence was, which Harley found incredibly annoying.

So she hit the drum hard, took off her headphones, and said: "We're performing the day after tomorrow, and you're still here studying artificial intelligence? Are you planning to have it play the bass for you?"

The bassist was choked up, but looking at the others in the band who were rehearsing seriously, he didn't have the nerve to say anything and slunk away.

As it turned out, in the afternoon, the software named "Super Butler Brainiac" swept the world. The bassist walked in triumphantly again, specifically holding his bass and walking up to Harley.

Harley hadn't said anything yet, but the bass started making sounds on its own. The bassist smiled triumphantly and said: "Didn't expect that, did you? The bass really can play itself. I don't need to rehearse to play better than you guys. This is the power of Brainiac."

"Young people should chase trends, not be like some old-fashioned bumpkins who don't even know Brainiac." The lead singer also chimed in from the side.

Although Harley rolled her eyes several times inwardly, she was too lazy to argue with them. Who hasn't met a few jerks in their life? Just a war of words was enough.

But in the evening, things started to go wrong. When Harley wanted to leave after practicing the drums, the door was blocked. The bassist, the lead singer, and a few unfamiliar faces were blocking the door of the rehearsal room. As soon as Harley walked over, several pairs of eyes stared at her in unison.

"Hey, we're having a party tonight to discuss the correct way to use Brainiac. Are you coming?"

"I have things to do." Harley wasn't making excuses; she had already set the location for the base and had to sign the contract tonight.

"Why are you always so unsociable?" The bassist deliberately walked up and said, "We're inviting you to give you face. Otherwise, with you being such a bumpkin, who would want to hang out with you?"

Harley took a deep breath and said: "Are you planning to have Brainiac go to bed for you? Or do you want him to cheer you on from the side? I'm afraid he won't perform as intelligently as you imagine. After all, even if it's an electronic life form, I'm afraid it can't squeeze out many nice words in a few dozen seconds!"

The bassist's eyes widened. Others also looked at him with strange eyes, especially the lead singer. He knew the bassist had been pursuing Harley, and he didn't know if they had really dated. If they had, then what Harley meant was...

No wonder Harley didn't give him a good look.

The gaze of his companions completely enraged the bassist. He stepped forward to push Harley, but Harley took a stun gun out of her bag and shocked him to the ground in one go. The others screamed and ran away.

Harley left the activity room leisurely, thinking the matter was over. But before she could leave the school gate, a car drove straight at her.

Fortunately, she was quick-witted and rolled into the bushes next to her. Although she wasn't hurt, her head and body were covered in grass clippings when she came out.

Harley turned to look at the car, only to find no one inside. At this moment, the bassist poked his head out of the activity building window and shouted: "I'll kill you, you damn bitch!!"

Just a second before Harley wanted to pull out her gun, a pair of hands pulled her into the hallway next to her. Harley turned her head and saw a blonde woman standing behind her, looking a bit familiar, but she couldn't remember where she had seen her.

"I'm Christine. You're a student at Cat Getan University, right? Are you okay?"
