Chapter 3555: Edge of Tomorrow (Part 12)

~11 min read 2,008 words

"Oh! You're the lead actress in that show... what was it called... 'Coffee Shop and a Kiss'?!" Harley tapped her head and said, "What are you doing at our school?"

"I graduated from this school; I remember mentioning it in an interview. Now I'm a teaching assistant for the cheerleading dance troupe, and I just finished class and was getting ready to go home..."

Harley looked back. Cat Getan University's stadium wasn't far from the activity building, and this road was indeed the only way to leave school from the stadium.

"Why did that car just try to hit you?" Christine asked, somewhat puzzled.

Harley wanted to say, but couldn't explain it all at once. She didn't expect any teacher to avenge her, so she wanted to brush it off.

But Christine had seen big scenes before and wasn't so easily fooled. She said: "If that car had hit you, it would have been murder. Since I saw it, I can't just ignore it. Let's call the police first."

Harley didn't want to deal with the police at all, so she had to simplify the story, but she didn't expect Christine's brows to furrow even tighter.

"Today isn't a day for the cheerleading troupe to rehearse, so do you know why I came to school?"

Harley didn't answer, so Christine answered her own question: "Two members of the cheerleading troupe had a conflict, and the situation escalated, eventually turning into a group of people isolating and bullying one person. The coach called me over to help her solve the problem."

"I only found out after asking the victim that because she didn't want to use the electronic dance music edited by Brainiac, feeling it might infringe on the copyright of the electronic music producer, they ganged up to bully her."

"The leader of the bullies claimed to be part of an organization called the 'Brainiac Support Society.' This organization prides itself on being the pioneer of a new world, taking the expansion of Brainiac's influence as its duty. Everyone who doesn't obey their arrangements is called a 'fool' by them, and they will gang up to exclude them."

"Besides the cheerleading troupe, the football team has also seen this situation. The students insist that the tactics formulated by Brainiac are better for them, and several coaches are at their wits' end. Fortunately, most students haven't returned to school yet, otherwise it would be even more troublesome."

Harley's eyebrows knit together. She had thought this was just like the previous popularity of rap culture, where there were always people chasing trends, and others who didn't care. And those chasing trends thought they were very stylish, so they ganged up to promote it, and called those who didn't care about such things "bumpkins."

But she didn't expect that they had actually reached the level of forming a society, and were ganging up to exclude others, and appeared exceptionally crazy.

When rap culture was popular before, a rap club was indeed formed, but most people were just having fun, and she hadn't heard of two people dissing each other and then using a car to hit the other party.

Although she had some bad premonitions, Harley wasn't in a hurry to get revenge. She said goodbye to Christine and went to do her own thing. When she returned to the dormitory at night, she found a letter stuck to her door:

"Dear Ms. Harley Quinzel:

We are sorry for what happened tonight, but please believe that Brainiac is humanity's best choice. We sincerely invite you to join the Brainiac Support Society and create a beautiful tomorrow with us."

"Why does it sound like a housekeeping company?"

Harley muttered. Just as she was about to push the door open, her roommate across the hall walked over mysteriously and said: "Did you receive that letter too? Are you planning to join? I think we can go sign up together..."

"Forget it, not interested."

Harley returned to her room to rest for the night, and when she got up in the morning, she found graffiti sprayed on her dormitory door. The paint traces extended all the way to the door of her roommate across the hall.

The roommate walked out, smoothed her hair, and said: "You can't blame me. They said if I want to join, I have to do this. You clean it up yourself."

After saying that, she left. Harley looked at her back, lost in thought.

As of now, this "Brainiac Support Society" already fit the definition of a cult very well. The villain organization she spent a lot of money to build, wouldn't this come in handy?

"There's a problem." Jack held up a finger and said: "Since we are a villain organization, why should we oppose a cult?"

"Precisely because we are villains, we are vengeful." Harley slapped the table and said: "They actually wanted to hit me with a car; of course, we have to give them a taste of their own medicine!"

Jack nodded: "You're the boss, you call the shots."

"I don't suggest we go on a killing spree at school." Shiler said. "The football game has already been postponed once. If another homicide happens, I'm afraid there won't be a game this year."

"I didn't plan to kill them all either." Harley said. "We have to figure out who organized this support society and whether Brainiac is truly involved. We have to find a way to dismantle them, and only kill those we can't solve."

"Brainiac is definitely involved." Cobblepot said. "You said it yourself, the car that hit you was driverless. If it wasn't Brainiac, then who else could it be?"

"It was a command sent to me by a user; I was just acting according to their wishes." The phone Harley put on the table suddenly spoke up.

"Shut up." Harley flipped the phone over.

The others looked at her with strange eyes. Harley said somewhat angrily: "Why are you looking at me? Don't tell me you guys don't use it?!"

"Alright, I admit I used it." Pamela said. "It's quite useful for recording plant traits."

"I used it too." Harvey said. "Its ability to edit and organize legal complaints is much stronger than an intern's."

The others admitted it too. Harley looked at Shiler, and Shiler said: "Think positively; I showed him Bruce's thesis, and I feel like his server is about to smoke."

Harley finally laughed. Jack looked at Harley's phone and said: "Then wouldn't the plans we're plotting here all be told to the support society by him?"

"No." Harley said. "There's no need for that."

"We and the people in the support society are all his users; which user is noble, and which user is lowly?"

"But the people in the support society praise him and help him spread his influence."

"But that group of people are students; no matter how loud they shout, they aren't as powerful as us. Winning our support is more important, isn't it?"

The phone vibrated twice, as if nodding.

"And, since he claims to be a super artificial intelligence and says he wants to provide a fair living environment for humanity, he naturally won't take sides. They attacked my personal safety first, so I can naturally retaliate, right?"

The phone vibrated twice again, as if still affirming Harley's point of view.

"That's right." Harley snapped her fingers and said: "As the organizer of the alliance, I'll issue the first task to break in the team. The command group will make the plan first, then the combat group will go to execute it, and finally the logistics group will handle the aftermath."

"That's simple." Cobblepot said. "Pamela and Harley, you two are both university students; find a way to find the base of this organization, figure out how many people they have, who the leader is, and what their background is."

"After figuring it out, collect their criminal evidence, kill the leader first, and hand the rest over to the police; that should be no problem."

The others agreed with this plan, discussed the specific details for a while, and then dispersed.

"Now you know why I joined the logistics group." Shiler said when he left with Victor. "I'm afraid it'll be a week before they need us."

"I think you're being too optimistic." Victor said. "In Cat Getan, things never develop the way you expect."

Sure enough, that very night, Shiler received a call from Harley.

"What's wrong?"

"Professor, I'm afraid you need to come over." Harley was panting slightly, but it didn't sound like panic, more like she had just finished exercising.

"Where are you?"

"In the rock club rehearsal room in the activity building. By the way, bring tools."

"Bring what?"

"Cleaning tools."

Shiler immediately guessed what must have happened. He quickly called Victor and said: "Did you guys produce a cleaning agent for bloodstains before? And a cleaning robot? Yes, bring them all. See you at the rock club rehearsal room."

When Shiler arrived, Victor had already arrived, and the cleaning tools were at the door. Shiler was shocked the moment he stepped inside—

There were large patches of blood on the floor, and one trail of blood had splashed onto the ceiling. A male corpse was lying by the window, and blood had even gotten onto the exterior wall of the activity building.

"What happened?" Shiler looked at Harley and asked, "Are you okay?"

Harley shook her head and shook her hands. Her body was covered in blood on one side; she seemed to have just washed up in the bathroom, but it wasn't very effective.

"When this guy asked me to come over, I really didn't think he'd dare to do this." Harley wrung out a towel and wiped the blood off her arms and hands. "He wanted to assault me, so I finished him off."

Shiler walked over and flipped the male corpse over. He had watched the rock band's performance and had an impression of this person; it should be the bassist in the band.

"I mean, how did you make it so bloody?"

Harley sighed and said: "I wanted to kill him in one blow, but he dodged, and I missed. He ran out of the bathroom, and it ended up like this."

"It seems the peaceful days in Cat Getan have made you rusty." Shiler teased. "But compared to your counterpart, at least he wasn't smashed to pieces."

"I have no interest in wasting time on him." Harley said in a cold tone. "The so-called super artificial intelligence gave them an illusion, making them think that with useful tools, anyone can do whatever they want. It's really stupid."

"Let's not talk about this. You go back and rest first; leave this to us."

Just as Shiler finished speaking, he heard a burst of rapid footsteps. Before he could close the door, a figure rushed in—

"Oh, God... ahhhhhhh—"

Shiler picked up a guitar from the side and slapped it against the back of the girl's neck. With a "bang," the screaming stopped abruptly.

Harley walked over, flipped the person over, and said: "The lead singer of our band, a stupid girl with no backbone."

"What do you plan to do?"

"I'll send her back and threaten her to keep her mouth shut. She doesn't have the guts to tell anyone." Harley said.

"You're the boss, you call the shots." Shiler also said.

After Harley left with the lead singer, Shiler walked over and stood in front of the cleaning tools Victor had brought and said: "You were right. In Cat Getan, things never develop the way you expect."

"It's going to be a busy night." Victor looked at the messy rehearsal room with a headache and said, "I checked the schedule; they're coming to rehearse tomorrow morning. We have to clean up everything before dawn."

"High salaries aren't easy to earn." Shiler took off his suit jacket and said, "Don't waste time, let's start."
