Chapter 3750: John Wick (Part 6)
"Welcome to today's Cat Getan News Flash. It is reported that the murderer of last night's banquet murder case has been identified as a killer from the 'Outsiders' team led by resistance leader Barbara. Today, the resistance army attacked Wei En Group Chairman Thomas Elliot again..."
"It seems you are fine," Dick leaned against the wall, arms crossed, and said to Jason, "But now it's Elliot who has something to worry about."
"You also heard the news of his disappearance?" Jason had a cigarette in his mouth, his elbows resting on his knees, and said, "Wei En Group has completely blocked the news, probably worried that the news would cause panic. But I'm afraid it won't be hidden for long. Who do you think the public will think did it?"
"Of course his biggest competitor in the election, March," Dick said, "I know what you want to ask, March's supporter is indeed the Court of Owls. But this matter really wasn't done by us."
"Could it be the League of Assassins?" Jason said with some doubt, "Could it be that all of this was done by the League of Assassins? Because they found a better candidate, so they had to get rid of Elliot and his men?"
"Breaking news," the sound came from the TV again, "Cat Getan Police Department reports that Cat Getan's beloved Judge Harvey Dent has suddenly disappeared and is currently missing..."
Jason's expression became serious. He frowned and said: "This looks like a cleansing operation. Elliot and everyone related to him will be in danger."
"Do you need me to protect you?" Dick raised his eyebrows.
"No, I must find Elliot. Without him, Wei En Group might not choose to cooperate with Red Line. I absolutely cannot miss such a big client."
"Where do you plan to find him?"
"Go to the disappearance site and look around first."
A few dozen minutes later, Jason arrived at the old city area. He stood on the roof of the building and looked down; the scene had been cleaned up almost completely. Engineering vehicles were repairing the building, and the helicopter wreckage only left some scorched marks.
With the help of a drone, he jumped down from upstairs. Just as he wanted to move forward, he saw a figure on the street lamp pole in front.
The other jumped down, and the pitch-black cape drew an elegant arc in the air. The two sharp ears looked very special.
"Who are you?" Jason took a defensive stance and asked.
"Batman," the other replied in a low voice.
"This city doesn't need more freaks. Are you a member of the resistance army?"
"I am not a freak, nor am I a member of any organization," the low voice continued, "What are you looking for?"
Jason became vigilant immediately. He denied it: "I'm just here to look around. As for you, dressed strangely, acting suspiciously. Are you the resistance army? Perhaps it should be decided by the police."
"I just didn't expect to see you in this situation, Jason. You seem to be doing well."
Jason became even more vigilant. His hair stood up. He said: "It seems you are from the League of Assassins. But no matter what you say, I won't believe your ghost stories. Where on earth did you put Elliot?"
This freak who called himself Batman didn't speak. He just turned his head to look at where the helicopter crashed, and then said: "According to the traces left at the scene, if someone kidnapped Elliot, then he could only have done it from the right rear of the wreckage; only here is the complete visual blind spot. And there happens to be a camera there that can capture the situation in the blind spot. I'm going to get the surveillance footage, do you want to come with me?"
Jason frowned deeply. He said: "Who knows if you will trick me into some trap. I will get the surveillance footage myself. You must also go to the police station with me."
Batman shook his head, fired a grappling hook, flew directly to the billboard on the other side, and jumped from the balcony to the other side of the building, his figure disappearing quickly.
"You came late, didn't see the freak," Jason said to Dick who had just landed behind him, "Batman? What a strange name."
"The main universe Batman really did chase after him," Pride said in the theater of the High Tower. "I don't know if he's here to stop the Batman Who Laughs or to stop the Pathological one."
"Does that even need asking? It must be the latter," Greed said with great certainty. "If the Pathological one hadn't been having so much fun, Batman would have been able to see half of the Batman Who Laughs by now."
"The Batman Who Laughs' self-healing ability is too weak," Mediocrity couldn't help but say. "If it were the Joker, he would be jumping around by now. He's still there, gasping for air every step he takes."
"He is a Batman infected with the Joker virus, not a Joker who has turned over a new leaf, so his self-healing ability is naturally not as strong as a legitimate Joker's. But speaking of which, there is a Joker in this universe who has turned over a new leaf. The Pathological one wouldn't be interested in him too, would he?"
Pride stared at the shifting colored lines on the screen, and after a while, said: "It seems he is very disappointed with the Batman Who Laughs. He should be preparing to change targets."
"He'd better not go and mess with the Joker-Batman. Even if the vigilante Joker's methods are a bit violent, he is one of the few good Jokers in the multiverse. There's no need to torment him, right?"
"Perhaps it's the main universe Joker, who knows. Ah, wait, it seems the main universe Joker is the unlucky one; he actually ran right into him."
Schiller was in a preparation room on the second floor of a hospital, wrapping bandages around the handle of a blade. This blade was very long, dragging on the floor even when Schiller held it up, because this was the upper half of that guillotine.
It was just that because it wasn't originally meant to be held in the hand, it was more of a handle than a hilt, and it wasn't very comfortable to grip. Schiller removed the rubber sleeve from it and used bandages to re-wrap the hilt.
After finishing, Schiller pushed the door open and stepped out, coming face-to-face with the main universe Joker who had just walked up the stairs. The light in the corridor was so dim that neither side could clearly see the other's face at first.
The sound of the guillotine's tip hitting the tiled floor was so crisp that it sounded almost ethereal as it echoed through the hospital corridor. Anyone who heard this sound would have a momentary blankness in their brain.
In Cat Getan's pitch-black night, it was drizzling outside. A tall, thin man in a suit was carrying a long blade that dragged on the floor. Is there anything wrong with this scene?
No one stipulated that you couldn't wear a suit in a hospital, no one stipulated that you couldn't carry a blade if you were wearing a suit, and no one stipulated that the blade you carried couldn't be this long.
Before the other party made an aggressive move, everything looked strange but still within the realm of normal. It was just that the whole look gave people the urge to turn and run.
The Joker was not a normal person, so he didn't run. It wasn't until a flash of lightning streaked across the window, providing a faint light to the pitch-black corridor, that the Joker saw the man's face clearly.
It was like adding the most essential stroke to a masterpiece, or placing the final rest on an ethereal and terrifying piece of music. The deterrent power brought by this face was stronger than the entire look before. Even the Joker couldn't help but take a step back.
The moment countless colored lines converged at one point, the long blade suddenly fell. The Joker was just half a step too slow, and a long gash was cut from his shoulder blade to his lower back.
He let out a scream, but it didn't slow his escape speed in the slightest. He didn't doubt for a second that the other party would kill him. The bit of Joker virus in his own body could probably only intimidate a Batman. If he got inside this guy's body, he'd be punched eight times in three steps.
After the main universe rebooted, the main universe Joker and Schiller no longer had any grudges. But every Joker could be called a master of psychoanalysis. Those crazy hallucinations could also give them inspiration.
Upon seeing Schiller in the corridor, rather than physical damage, the main universe Joker's brain was the first to experience an explosion on a cognitive level. The things he read could even bring an impact to the Joker's crazy little head.
He didn't know what was wrong with Schiller. He only knew that trying to reason with the mess beneath the man's skin was definitely not going to work. Those tricks and gimmicks he was so proud of would certainly be useless.
In essence, an order as powerful as Superman and an extreme chaos as pathological as the Pathological one were both the Joker's nemesis.
The Joker ran for his life, but the other party's speed was clearly much faster than his. Within seconds, the Joker took another hit. He let out another scream and tumbled down the stairs.
He happened to roll right in front of Batman.
The Joker had never in his life imagined that seeing Batman would feel like seeing a savior. Looking at Batman's serious face again, all that stubbornness, rigidity, and lack of humor—this was clearly the Dark Knight, full of a sense of security!
The Joker "whooshed" and darted behind Batman.
Batman was also a bit confused. He really wanted to ask what the Joker was going crazy about. But as soon as he retracted his gaze from the Joker's back and looked forward, Batman got a not-so-wonderful answer.
"Turn back!" Batman shouted at the Joker, who was still trying to run toward the door. "Turn around! Face him head-on!"
"Why don't you face Superman head-on?!" the Joker cursed.
"I mean don't turn your back on him!" Batman said with some helplessness. "He locks onto targets based on their backs. If you keep running, you'll get cut again!"
The Joker was skeptical, and then he got cut again.
Fortunately, as the blade grazed his shoulder, Batman tackled Schiller. He wanted to seize the blade, but it was too big and heavy, and he couldn't find a good angle to hold it for a moment. Schiller didn't want to be outdone, and with a roll, he took Batman with him. The blade sliced across Batman's thigh, and blood sprayed out instantly.
The Joker grabbed a stool nearby and smashed it hard. The stool hit the back of Schiller's head, and blood flowed down. The result was that Batman was kicked flying by Schiller.
The Joker was about to continue smashing, but Batman hurriedly shouted: "Don't! Don't attack him!!!"
The Joker was so angry his nose was crooked. He threw the stool directly at Batman and shouted: "You're actually favoring him?! Can't you see he's much more dangerous than me?!"
"No," Batman said helplessly again. "The more you hit him, the stronger he gets. If you keep hitting him, neither of us will be able to escape!"
The Joker wanted to say something else, but at this moment, two more people rushed in at the door. Jason and Dick had arrived.
The Joker took a few steps back, seemingly intending to take advantage of the chaos to escape. He hurriedly gave Batman a look, wanting Batman to run with him. Batman, however, shook his head.
"Are you feeling sorry for your two little birds again?"
Batman said without blinking: "No. He won't change targets until the locked target is killed. If you have any conscience left, you should run away alone."
"You actually think I have a conscience?!"
"I don't. So... Dick, Jason, run!"
?? Main Joker: Holy shit.
