Chapter 3751: John Wick (Part 7)
Batman miscalculated.
He knew this universe might be different from the one he was in, but because the pursuit was too hasty, there wasn't much time to investigate the situation of this universe, so he didn't know that this universe had no Batman, and there were no Robins either.
Although he felt Jason's attitude was a bit strange when he met him earlier, every Jason in every universe had a strange attitude toward him, so Batman was long used to it.
Dick's attire also looked a bit non-
He could certainly tell that the two of them didn't seem very familiar with him. But in most cases, these two little birds would make themselves appear not so familiar with Batman, so Batman didn't expect that they were truly unfamiliar with him.
After he shouted, he turned and ran. Logically speaking, at a time like this, even the most rebellious teenager would choose to trust Batman temporarily. Even in the Arkham Knight universe, Arkham Knight Jason wouldn't cause trouble for Batman at such a critical juncture.
But unfortunately, this universe was too special; there had never been a Batman from beginning to end. Dick and Jason didn't know what this weirdo in black tights was doing at all, let alone trust his judgment.
Batman had already rushed out of the hospital gate, but these two were still standing there foolishly.
More importantly, the Joker was a step too slow, and he knew he couldn't run away. Although the knife wounds on his body healed quickly, he really didn't want to get cut again. So he darted over with a flexible figure and hid behind Jason, preparing to let this little unlucky guy take a hit for him.
Seeing Schiller carrying such a long blade, Jason and Dick naturally felt the danger instinctively. But they didn't know how dangerous it really was, so they set up a fighting stance on the spot.
Batman looked back and the sky fell; what are you two doing there?!
There was no Batman in this world, which had another disadvantage: the little birds hadn't undergone Batman's training. Although Jason had become a CEO on his own and Dick had become a Talon of the Court of Owls, their level in combat was far inferior to the Robins of other universes who had undergone Batman's training.
Jason set up his stance, but was knocked over by Schiller in the first exchange. When Schiller rushed over, he slammed his right shoulder into Jason's chest, deliberately holding back thirty percent of his strength. Jason didn't fly out, but fell backward. Schiller took advantage of the momentum to pull back to the right, swung the long blade in a full circle, and slashed down hard; Jason's left arm fell off in response.
Dick stepped forward, sharp claws popping out from the back of his hands, and slashed at Schiller's blade-holding hand, but because the distance wasn't enough, he failed to cut off the arm, only leaving three extremely deep wounds.
The moment the smell of blood permeated the air, the Joker almost wanted to cheer. But the next second, the long blade attacked him again, and he hurriedly rolled to the right in a somewhat disheveled manner, barely dodging the blade.
Dick discovered that the other party's target wasn't him, and even felt insulted, insisting on participating in this battle. The action of successfully causing wounds earlier gave him an illusion, making him feel that he could cause damage to Schiller in this way.
So, taking advantage of the gap when Schiller retracted the blade, he moved in from under the arm, his sharp claws aiming straight for the heart from bottom to top, but he suddenly felt his wrist clamped tightly by someone, and then a huge force came. He was pulled forward violently, and the moment he lost his balance, he was thrown to the ground with his arm twisted. As he lay on his back, he saw a sharp long blade pass before his eyes.
Clang! Clang-clang!
The harsh sound of metal colliding came, and the Batarangs hit the long guillotine blade, sending sparks flying. Batarangs would be cushioned by muscle and fat when hitting a person, lacking impact, but they could still cause a certain impact when hitting an implement. Batman's strike was decisive and precise, and three Batarangs hit in succession, each with more force than the last. Besides making the long blade ring out, they actually deflected it somewhat. Schiller's blade slashed onto Dick's shoulder.
The guillotine blade had no sharp, pointed tip; the blade head was a flat rectangle, only meant for chopping, not stabbing. Schiller had already leveled the blade, preparing to chop straight at the neck, but because of the impact, it only slashed onto the shoulder; although it was deep enough to see bone, it was not fatal.
"Ugh!" Dick let out a cry of pain. But being able to become a Talon, he naturally wasn't without ability. He seized this opportunity, rolled to dodge the second slash, climbed up from the ground clutching his shoulder, and retreated a few steps.
The Joker didn't take this opportunity to escape because he found that Batman was right. Schiller's target was locked onto him; if he ran, he would instead be leading the enemy away. He knew very well that he couldn't win in a one-on-one head-on confrontation with Schiller. If he didn't run, he could at least use these few stupid birds to block Schiller's attacks, and he would have a way to survive.
Seeing Batman return, the Joker felt relieved. Nothing else, although the Robins of any universe didn't look like much to him, the ones in this universe were clearly exceptionally pathetic. Two of them tied together weren't enough for Schiller to chop; it still had to be Batman!
The Joker had never felt such reverence for his old rival. Any talk about how practicing combat to be a vigilante and punching criminals was a waste of time—after this day, it need not be mentioned again.
Never mind whether a super-rich man taking to the streets to stop crime has any significance in philosophy and sociology; at least now, it's a case of "a thousand days of training for a single moment of use," and "ten years of hard work for one minute on stage." If the main universe Batman hadn't been punching those criminals on the streets of Cat Getan for over a decade, he would probably be lying on the ground just as miserably as these two little birds. If Batman were chopped into eight pieces, wouldn't he himself be sliced into sashimi?
Watching Batman rush over, the Joker was almost moved to tears. He dodged behind Batman, looking at the tall figure that commanded respect without anger and the cape that moved without wind, and he also empathized with the victims in the Cat Getan night.
This pair of old rivals hadn't failed to resist common enemies before, but the Joker would always backstab Batman at critical moments, pushing Batman into the abyss with the enemy. This was actually just because the Joker was confident he could confront the remaining enemy alone. But this time it clearly wouldn't work, so he still had to count on Batman.
Batman didn't pay him any mind. He just picked up Jason's severed arm at the fastest speed, stuffed it into his arms, and told him to hurry up and take his arm and retreat. Then he pulled Dick back from under Schiller's blade and told him to retreat as well.
But Dick didn't listen to him at all. He felt that the previous strike was just a mistake, and furthermore, a Talon's perception of pain was relatively weak, and he had self-healing abilities, so the wound on his shoulder didn't cause him much damage. The blade on his arm popped out again, and in the blink of an eye, Dick rushed up again.
"Come back! Dick!" Batman shouted hurriedly.
But Dick thought he had seized a good opportunity. Schiller was switching the long blade to his other hand, and he seized this gap to go up and slash, this time leaving three deep bloody marks on Schiller's left shoulder.
"You should taste this feeling too," Dick said. Then, like a ghost, he flashed behind Schiller, his sharp claws reaching for the neck.
Clang! A Batarang hit Dick's arm, and Dick's arm was also shaken to the side, the force slightly weakened, failing to slice open Schiller's neck, only leaving a few scratches below his neck; although not too deep, they were bleeding profusely.
"Enough! Dick!" Batman shouted. His intention was to say, if you keep adding wounds to him like this, none of us will be able to escape. But Dick was clearly very dissatisfied with his attitude.
"You're in cahoots, right?" Dick truly flipped onto the rafters like an owl, his eyes flickering with a faint light in the dark night.
Batman didn't know how to explain it for a moment. He couldn't tell these people that Schiller was acting according to certain laws and was more like a ghost than a human, could he?
Not to mention whether these people would believe it, Batman knew very well that Schiller hadn't lost his mind now, nor was he having an episode. The other party was sane and clear-headed, and the other party seemed to care very much about others saying he wasn't human. If you called him a ghost to his face, wouldn't he really show you that blades have no eyes?
Moreover, he really didn't have time to explain. The impact those few wounds had on Schiller was minimal; if there was any, it was that it made him more excited. In the few seconds of talking, he rushed up again with the blade.
Now Jason had basically no combat power, Dick didn't trust them at all, the Joker was a waste, and Batman didn't have full confidence that he could beat Schiller. He had no choice but to grab the Joker behind him, push him forward, and say: "Run inside the hospital, find a place to hide, I'll stop him!"
The Joker didn't want to listen to him. They were at the entrance now; wouldn't running out of the hospital be like a bird flying free? But he also knew that Batman wouldn't speak without a reason; if he didn't let him run into the open space outside but instead told him to run into the hospital, there must be a reason, so he could only comply.
The Joker ran into the corridor, and Batman pushed Jason and said: "You go too, I'll try to see if I can reattach your arm later."
Jason felt as if he had fallen into a madman's kingdom. Everyone here was abnormal, but the excruciating pain from his arm made him unable to think more deeply. Seeing the Joker run, he followed suit.
The wound on Batman's thigh was bleeding continuously, and he was already experiencing dizziness from excessive blood loss. He tore off a part of his cape for a simple bandage to stop the bleeding, and then blocked the only path Schiller had to chase the Joker.
Batman had already burned his bridges. This was not only to save the Joker but also to prevent Schiller from targeting anyone else. At the very least, he had to curb his actions first, otherwise, everyone in the city could be in danger.
It was fine if he targeted someone like the Joker who deserved to die but couldn't, but if he targeted an ordinary person with no power to truss a chicken, that would likely be a cruel massacre. Batman absolutely could not allow such a thing to happen.
Just as the tactics in Batman's mind were constantly changing, trying to pick the most effective one to deal with Schiller, a sound suddenly came from the stairwell. Batman turned his head and saw a large mouth looming in the darkness.
He suddenly remembered why he had come to the hospital—surveillance footage from the helicopter crash site on the streets of the Old District showed a thin, pale figure using anesthetic to knock out Elliot. Whether it was the source of the medical anesthetic or the direction he was walking, it proved that the Batman Who Laughs had kidnapped Elliot to the hospital.
