Chapter 4382: Far Star Project (Part 7)
Locking the gate of the abandoned factory with her own hands, Diana turned back and said, "Let's go back to headquarters. Perhaps we should listen to that plan of Bruce's."
Everyone was also silent. Barry was clearly still a bit unconvinced, following behind the crowd while saying, "They are too shameless, actually using ordinary people to threaten us. If they have the ability, let's fight for real..."
"Barry," Ron interrupted him, then said, "War is always the worst choice. You cannot stand from the perspective of a superhuman who cannot die and say that bloodshed and sacrifice are necessary, then attempt to solve everything by starting a war. That is too arrogant."
Barry let out a long sigh, appearing very depressed. Hal walked over and patted his shoulder, then said, "It's okay, Batman must have a way. He is still the best at dealing with these people; we just need to listen to him."
Just as he finished speaking, several cars drove from the end of the street they were passing. Law enforcement officers got out of the cars and surrounded them, and several people in suits and leather shoes got out of the middle car.
The person in the lead made Diana's eyes widen. She shouted, "Schiller? How did you..."
"Nyarlathotep, head of A. R. G. U. S.," Schiller walked up and shook hands with him, then said, "It's a pity to see you here. Things aren't going very smoothly, right?"
Diana closed her eyes hard. She felt that the Pharaoh's curse probably hadn't ended yet; she now had a disease where she would get a headache whenever she saw Schiller, but she still had to patiently deal with him.
"You are really dutiful, Director," Diana took a deep breath and said, "Then are you here this time to watch us make a fool of ourselves?"
"Of course not," Schiller also smiled at her and said, "I'm here to help you. I know you want to help homeless people, but you are always being troubled by people. You are all great heroes who care about the people; if they want to take action against ordinary people, you can only take a step back. But if you ask me, the other party dares to be so arrogant because you have no backing."
"You should know that every welfare institution must have official endorsement to successfully carry out work. A. R. G. U. S. is an organization under the National Security Agency specifically for managing super-powered individuals; as long as you are willing to join, we will definitely fully support your plan..."
Diana clenched her fists, suppressed the angry emotions in her heart, and said, "We don't need it, thank you."
After saying this, she was about to leave. Among everyone, except for Hal, no one had a good impression of this organization, and they all followed Diana to leave. But just as Diana passed by Schiller, Schiller reached out and pressed her shoulder, whispering, "We recently recruited a powerful super-powered individual, codenamed Doomsday. Do you want to see him?"
Diana had a bad premonition. The next second, she saw a huge monster jump out from behind the factory building in the park. She gasped; this was exactly the alien monster that fought Superman in Metropolis that day!
"Get out of the way!" Diana shouted.
But everyone was unprepared. The next second, a huge fist smashed everyone away. While Diana was adjusting her posture in the air, she saw Schiller make a mouth shape at her: "Have fun."
Diana was furious and wanted to fly down and give Schiller a sword on the spot, but that huge monster blocked her way. Diana took out the God Killer sword and slashed at Doomsday's arm, but only left a shallow white mark on the hard skin.
"Damn it!" Diana cursed.
With a sizzle, a laser shot out. But the laser shot from J'onn's eyes only pushed Doomsday back two steps; the charred black on his chest healed almost in an instant.
J'onn's face sank; he realized that this monster had become stronger; more importantly, he seemed to have regained his reason, not that kind of brainless beast that only roared and attacked.
Doomsday pounced again. This time, Hal blocked it with a Green Lantern shield, but looking at the light on the ring on his hand that had dimmed significantly in an instant, he widened his eyes and said, "This guy is ridiculously strong!"
Arthur wanted to scold him; did you need to say that? The news of this monster fighting Superman for three hundred rounds in Metropolis hung on the headlines for a whole week. That was Superman!
Barry ran around Doomsday several times, but he didn't find any flaws in this monster. He wanted to harass him, but the other party seemed to have eyes in the back of his head; every time he left the Speed Force, he would be caught by the other party.
"Come back quickly, Barry!" Diana shouted anxiously. Even if Barry had Speed Force protection, he was just an ordinary person; once caught, the consequences would be unimaginable.
Victor also came, but his hacking technology was useless on the monster. He opened his hand cannon to attack, but the firepower of thermal weapons was not comparable to J'onn's heat vision. If heat vision couldn't cause effective damage, then he was even less capable.
Arthur took a deep breath, raised the Golden Trident, and shouted, "You all get out of the way!"
"No!!!" Diana turned back and shouted, "Don't do that, Arthur!!!"
But it was too late. The coastline closest to the factory park set off towering waves, the seawater jumped onto the clouds, and then descended like a sky curtain, washing over the entire street with immense force. The abandoned factory buildings were as fragile as paper and were destroyed almost instantly. Doomsday was also washed to the other end of the street.
The seawater bound his huge body, wrapping him tightly so he couldn't move. Diana felt somewhat pleasantly surprised looking at this scene. But the next second, she discovered that the seawater binding Doomsday was becoming less and less.
"He is absorbing the seawater!" Victor, flying in mid-air, magnified the image in his mechanical eye and said.
Arthur also frowned; he could feel something competing with him for control of this part of the seawater. The next second, countless seawater gushed out from Doomsday's mouth.
Diana reacted quickly and hurriedly picked up Barry and flew into the sky. J'onn also flew up quickly. Hal reacted half a beat slow and was washed away by the seawater, but fortunately, he also flew up in time and was not trapped in the seawater cage.
Diana gritted her teeth, swung her shield, and smashed it toward Doomsday from top to bottom. Doomsday was not to be outdone and smashed a fist onto Diana's shield. Divine power erupted with intense light, and with a bang, Doomsday was smashed into the ground, but he jumped out quickly and, while Diana was turning in the air, grabbed her leg and spun her twice, throwing her out directly.
Diana, flying out like a cannonball, smashed through a building next to her. J'onn hurriedly flew over to support her. But Doomsday jumped over again and smashed a fist onto J'onn's back.
J'onn roared, his body instantly turned into nothingness, turned back and kicked Doomsday's neck, kicking the huge body to the ground. Barry took the opportunity to rush over. Diana shouted, throwing the Lasso of Truth into his hand. Only blue electric light flashed, and Barry tied Doomsday up with the Lasso of Truth at an extremely fast speed.
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief; fortunately, their teammates were strong enough, and the cooperation was considered tacit. If they faced this monster alone, they would probably all be in trouble.
At this moment, Diana seemed to remember something and rushed to the street angrily, only to find somewhat shockingly that Schiller not only didn't leave but stayed in place, leaning against the car looking at her.
Before Diana could rush over, Schiller walked over first, showed her his ID, and said, "Release him. He is an employee of A. R. G. U. S., and he is just performing his duties here as usual; you have no right to illegally detain him..."
Diana opened her mouth wide. She simply didn't know how to evaluate this upside-down statement; the superheroes defeated the monster, and then you, damn it, came over to fish the monster out?!
"Don't understand? I'll say it again: you have no right to detain an official employee of the US National Security Agency. Now, release him immediately, otherwise, we will have to take special measures."
"I won't release him, what can you do?!" Diana said furiously, "He is a monster; if I release him, he will destroy Metropolis!!!"
"Who told you he is a monster? I made it clear from the beginning that he is an official employee newly recruited by A. R. G. U. S."
Before Schiller could finish speaking, many cars drove from both sides of the street. The ones on the right were police cars, which should be from the Metropolis Police Department; the ones on the left were security vehicles from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The police got out of the cars, and all their muzzles were aimed at Diana. Schiller looked at Diana and said, "Mr. Doomsday is an official employee of A. R. G. U. S. and also a law enforcement officer of the US National Security Agency. You attacked him, which belongs to assaulting police. Come with us for a trip."
Diana wanted to say something, but J'onn pulled her, looked at Schiller with a cold face, and said, "Fine, we'll release him."
Diana turned her head and glared at J'onn, saying, "Are you crazy?! If you release him, he will destroy Metropolis!"
J'onn ignored her, just gave Hal a look. Hal hesitated slightly, but still did as J'onn said. He untied the Lasso of Truth, and Doomsday stood up quickly.
However, to Diana's surprise, Doomsday did not attack them as before, but rubbed his arm and walked over with heavy steps. Diana looked at his eyes and understood: this monster had reason.
But she didn't understand why Schiller wanted to do this, just to get them all into the police station?
However, they wouldn't be truly sentenced, and they couldn't even be sued, because behind them was Bruce Wei En. Don't look at the National Security Agency's name as if it's very big, but federal government agencies have always been unable to fight local agencies; it was still very simple for Wei En to fish them out.
Sure enough, although they took a police car to the police station, they were told they could leave not long after. But when walking out of the police station, Diana saw Schiller again.
Logically speaking, at this time she should mock him triumphantly, but for some reason, she just had a bad premonition. She walked down the steps, stood in front of Schiller, and said, "What exactly do you want to do?"
"This is just a warning, ma'am," Schiller looked into her eyes and said, "Soon you will understand that what you want to save is not just those homeless people. The road is long and the burden is heavy."
Watching Schiller get in the car and leave, Diana's heart began to sink. J'onn walked out, and Diana turned back to look at him and said, "What did he mean?"
"I can't read his mind," J'onn said, "He has a special mental defense mechanism, and I can't see what he is thinking either."
"He said this is just a warning." Diana fell into deep thought. And just at this moment, snowflakes fell on her forehead; she looked up and saw a piece of silver white. It was snowing in Metropolis again; it wouldn't be long before this city would be covered in silver again, calm as if nothing had happened.
The omen of disaster always crawls quietly, in the cold wind, under the snow surface. Warmth and reason seem to be silkworms being drawn away, while the footsteps of crisis are getting closer and closer. ===== CHAPTER 4383 =====
