Chapter 4579: Day of White (45)

~12 min read 2,292 words

"Will they really go find it?" Deathstroke asked.

"Of course," Schiller said, "But they are not counting on the Justice League to save them. I emphasized to them many times that the mural has mysterious power. I'm afraid they want to master that kind of power."

"They want to become superpowered people?"

"No one would not want to try," Schiller said, "They are already at the end of their rope, if they don't do this, there is no way to leave Cairo. Only the fate of being arrested. Can only fight to the death."

"But can they find it?" Deathstroke asked.

Schiller shook his head and said: "Of course not, I didn't count on them being able to find it either."

"Then what are you going to do?"

"Of course, it's to use them to pass the message," Schiller said, "Not only can they not succeed in getting the mural, but they are also very likely to be captured by the person behind the scenes. He will get an important piece of information from them—the mural has mysterious power."

Deathstroke narrowed his eyes, and then said: "It seems this power has a problem. Are you trying to make him blow himself up?"

"That's not to that extent. But he will definitely try to study this mural. And if he can find something, Diana will have a reaction there."

Sure enough, Diana soon called, she said: "The power of the seven lights has some fluctuations, what did you do?"

"Nothing, ma'am. Can it guide the direction?"

"Guide the direction?"

"Yes. Some powers on the mural have been activated, and they might have some connection between them. I need the power of the seven lights to guide the direction for me."

"Sorry, I don't understand this, you wait a moment," Diana hung up the phone. Soon, the voice of Green Lantern came from the other end of the phone: "Flash Express, please pick it up."

As soon as the voice fell, a shining golden figure appeared in front of them. The Flash of the main universe handed something to Schiller and said: "This is an instrument that Batman made before to monitor the power of the seven lights. However, we haven't used it either, you can only study it yourself."

"Big help, sir."

The Flash smiled at them and disappeared.

Schiller looked at the instrument in his hand. Batman is always so foresighted, or rather, he made this thing, maybe it was to find the first lantern. It's just that before it could be used, it was already hung on the wall and couldn't come down.

This thing is simple to operate, there is only one button on it, and it will display the energy concentration nearby after pressing it, and it will also mark the direction where the energy is stronger. This made it convenient for Schiller to operate.

Holding this machine, they began to search in Cairo. The energy reading was never zero, which meant there was indeed an abnormality nearby. Relying on the instrument to constantly search and approach, finally, it actually

"I knew that guy wasn't trustworthy," Deathstroke said. "Turns out, the mural was still in his hands."

Shiler shook his head and said, "I'm afraid Haiwen has already left. If the mural were still in his hands, he wouldn't have left."

Deathstroke finally realized: "Could it be 'darkness under the lamp'?"

Shiler nodded and said, "Do you think Haiwen is a good curator?"

"He's not good by any measure," Deathstroke said. "Stealing artifacts, lining his own pockets."

"What's important is that he doesn't care at all about artifacts that aren't his own," Shiler said. "I suspect he's probably never finished walking through the Egyptian Museum himself."

"Isn't that a bit of an exaggeration?"

Shiler shook his head and said, "Especially those famous exhibition halls with so many tourists; there's no profit to be made there. There are too many existing photos of famous artifacts, making them hard to replace. He might not even go there to take a look. So if the mural were hidden there, I'm afraid he'd have a hard time discovering it."

They got out of the car and walked into the museum. Shiler glanced at the directory in the lobby and then said, "Tutankhamun exhibit, let's go."

"Not checking the instruments?" Deathstroke asked.

"Do you know what's painted on that mural?"

"Could it be Tutankhamun?"

"Congratulations, you guessed right."

"Wait a minute, you haven't even found the mural, how do you know?... Oh, wait, did you really create the mural?"

Deathstroke clearly still couldn't accept this premise, while Shiler just smiled and said nothing.

The Egyptian Museum is actually very large; the second floor is for special exhibitions, and the Tutankhamun exhibit they were looking for was right there. Before they could even walk in, the machine let out a series of alarms. Shiler took it out to look, and the readings were already off the charts.

"You don't need to look at that," Deathstroke said, looking into the exhibit hall. "It's glowing in there."

Shiler looked in that direction too. Sure enough, light was faintly shining from behind a wall, and it didn't look like electric light. There seemed to be some movement inside, and Deathstroke drew his sword immediately.

Shiler, however, looked thoughtful, stopped him, and signaled for him to follow behind. Then he walked in slowly.

Circling behind the wall, Deathstroke finally saw the true face of the mural—a giant serpent wandering between the sky and the earth, a green gem embedded in its tail, with a massive pyramid in the background and a sky full of shining meteors. At this moment, the entire mural was glowing.

And another figure slowly walked out from behind the mural. The moment he saw him, Deathstroke was dumbfounded.

"Joseph?!!!"

Joseph stood in the light radiating from the mural, his deep blue eyes gloomy. He stared at Deathstroke without saying a word.

"You..."

Deathstroke was truly speechless. How could it be Joseph?! How could he be here?! Could it be that he took the mural, but why would he do that?!

"Of course it's for you, you idiot," Joseph said, looking at him. "You completely ruined my graduation trip."

Deathstroke opened his mouth, not even knowing what to say; he didn't even know where to begin. Shiler, however, appeared very calm, as if he had already guessed it.

"Stay away from him," Joseph said. "Otherwise, I'll destroy it."

Shiler retreated a few steps as requested, and Deathstroke looked back at him. Shiler said with a bit of helplessness: "Clearly, your son has chosen a more powerful way to declare his warning to me—stay away from you, or else he will destroy my mission objective."

"My god, Joseph!" Deathstroke looked back at his son again. "What are you doing?!"

"Come with me," Joseph said, then he looked at Shiler and said, "The two of us leave, and the mural is yours. Otherwise, I won't let you have it."

"Don't be so impulsive, boy," Shiler said, looking at him. "I never thought about hurting your father. We are partners."

Joseph frowned, appearing somewhat confused, and said: "How are you..."

"What's wrong?"

"You don't look as dangerous anymore. But this might just be a disguise of yours; I won't change my mind. If you can't let the two of us leave, don't even think about getting this thing."

"If you'll pardon my asking, how do you intend to destroy it?"

"I don't need to destroy it, as long as I keep you from getting it. You know my abilities. You can't transport it back to the United States intact with everyone working against you."

And just as the two were talking, Deathstroke's brain finally started working. He thought of what Shiler had once said to him.

"Your children won't choose you; they will stand on the side of the rules and use the weapons of the rules to stab you—if you hadn't come here and hadn't met me, that's how it would be."

Deathstroke looked at Joseph again, and he was struck with a sudden realization. He finally understood what Shiler had done—he had made Joseph stand on his side, unconditionally and unreservedly.

Deathstroke almost wanted to cover his face. Is this right?

His reason told him this was right. The children wouldn't choose to stand on his side because they didn't want to go to the jungle, nor did they want Deathstroke to destroy their safe home.

But this didn't mean they could watch their father be swallowed by a Godzilla in the jungle.

Deathstroke's children were not without feelings for him. Or rather, they had the most basic humanity. Even if a stranger were in danger, they wouldn't necessarily ignore it. Even if they occasionally used some small tricks, they were by no means cold-blooded people.

Otherwise, when Joseph was fighting for a landing spot, he could have easily controlled people to cause trouble on the plane. That was a simpler and less strenuous method. But he didn't do that, which proved he still had a basic conscience.

It was the same now. If Deathstroke really intended to return home as Deathstroke, letting all the neighbors know his father was a killer, or simply committing crimes and breaking their peaceful life, then Joseph would not hesitate to move against him.

However, Deathstroke was currently with something very terrifying and looked like he could be swallowed at any moment, or had already been swallowed. What Joseph should be considering was how to reach into Godzilla's throat and make him spit his dad out.

One has to admit, this tactic worked very well. Joseph was practically impatient to stand with Deathstroke. Deathstroke also had to admit that he enjoyed this feeling. His son was trying hard to stand up and protect him, even though he looked very much like a mastermind—and don't say it, he really was a mastermind.

Deathstroke had to start thinking about how Joseph managed to do it. This was actually not easy. But considering he could easily read people's thoughts and perform mental control on others, it wasn't strange that he could accomplish it.

He first controlled Lady Shiva, causing Haiwen to lose his support. Then he mentally controlled him to open the safe house and take the mural. Immediately after, he found people to hijack Hessinager, who was locked up under the museum, and finally used Hessinager to transport the mural to the Tutankhamun exhibit in the museum.

It could be said that if it weren't for Joseph's lack of respect for mysterious powers, which led him to study this mural and cause the power to leak, and the Justice League providing a wave of technical support, they really might not have found it so easily.

But Deathstroke's focus was strange; he looked at Joseph and asked: "You went to the red-light district? Joseph, you'd better not have gone to see a prostitute. I'm warning you, that's illegal, and very unhealthy..."

Shiler and Joseph, who were arguing, both stopped. The large museum was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Shiler sighed and said: "Shouldn't you be asking how he found Lady Shiva?"

"Isn't it because he and his companions were interested in the red-light district, prepared to go on an adventure, and happened to run into her?" Deathstroke stated his guess. "Of course, I can understand; adolescent boys are always very interested in such things, feeling that breaking the rules has a sense of excitement. When I was young, I also..."

"Slade Wilson!" Joseph roared, "You actually went to see a prostitute when you were young? I'm going to tell my mother!!!"

"I did not!!" Deathstroke also shouted, "People who want to sleep with me could fill the entire Mississippi River, why would I go to..."

"So you really filled them into the Mississippi River?" Shiler was only interested in this.

The three of them were arguing their own points, but they were always able to pick up on each other's words. In the end, Shiler finally couldn't stand their family drama anymore.

"Enough!" he shouted, "You can take him away, I don't need him anymore! Give me the mural!"

"Hey, you can't just abandon me like that!" After Deathstroke shouted that, he said to Joseph, "Your dad isn't a crystal ball on display in a shop window, breaking at a touch. You can't interfere with my friendships, this is simply turning the world upside down..."

"You think he can be your friend because you can't see his true face, but I can!" Joseph roared, "I'm doing this for your own good!"

"I should be the one saying that to you, I'm your father!"

"You don't act like it at all!"

"Then I am too!"

Seeing the two of them about to bicker about this again, Shiler really couldn't stand it anymore. He took out his revolver and fired a shot with a "Bang." Joseph, having never experienced this kind of situation, felt his head buzzing. Shiler took the opportunity to try and pin him down.

Seeing Shiler attack his son, Deathstroke, even knowing he only wanted to subdue him, subconsciously rushed over, wanting to push Shiler away. Shiler grabbed his arm, wanting to throw him to the ground, but Deathstroke wouldn't let up, and the two wrestled together.

During the fight, Deathstroke bumped into the mural behind him. The mural was knocked over by him, and with a loud boom, it kicked up a cloud of dust on the ground, while the light grew stronger and stronger.

Suddenly, the sky outside the window lit up. Shiler and Deathstroke both turned their heads to look in that direction, only to see a shining meteor streak across the horizon, falling toward the southwest.
