Chapter 4602
"We should bring Batman back. Of course, I have no objections to that. But the problem is, Batman left behind a lot of work before he left, and it concerns the safety of the Earth. We can't send all our manpower into the multiverse..."
Nightwing's voice echoed in Shiler's ears, though he hadn't actually taken in a single word. This long, boring argument had been going on for half an hour, and neither side had convinced the other. Constantine, sitting at the table, seemed to have completely forgotten his confident demeanor; he just sat there in silence, not expressing any stance on the Robins' statements.
"I don't see any omens of Earth's peril in this work," Red Robin said. "Most of it is about the power of the Seven Lanterns, and a small portion is about guarding against Nekron. However, due to the existence of Earth's magical defense network, the degree to which our universe is infiltrated by Black Lantern power is minimal—almost non-existent, one could say. The Justice League will handle routine security work; I don't think we need to delay here for too long..."
Red Hood Jason was clearly on his side and said something excitedly as well. Shiler's brain automatically filtered out those words. Next was Oracle Barbara; her statement was more rational, but she didn't take anyone's side and had no effect on the situation.
Seeing that this segment was about to repeat until dark, Shiler cleared his throat, looked at Constantine, and signaled with his eyes that his patience had run out.
Constantine remained unmoved. However, after a few minutes, he raised his hand and glanced at his watch. After he put his hand down, Barbara's communication terminal suddenly rang.
After she picked up the communication device, her eyes widened immediately, and she exclaimed, "What's going on?! Living corpses have appeared on the Cat Getan coast??? How is this possible?!"
The Robins were stunned, leaning in one after another, and then their expressions turned very ugly. Nightwing said, "Quick, let's go to the beach. We absolutely cannot let them spread into the city!"
No one paid any attention to Constantine and Shiler. Red Hood did glance at them, but clearly, the matter of suspected Nekron power invading Earth was more important, so he also rushed out in a hurry.
"Your doing?" Shiler asked.
"Just a little trick." Constantine lowered his eyes, fiddling with the lighter in his hand, and stood up unhurriedly, sitting down in front of the computer nearby.
They were currently in Oracle's base, which could also be called the Robins' base. Constantine said while fiddling with the computer, "If they have different views on everything, then we can assume that they might also have disagreements and have argued about how to treat the Constantine of this universe... Oh, found it."
"You can break through her hacker security blockade?"
Constantine shook his head. "I'm not looking at the data on the computer." He turned his head, and Shiler saw something in his eyes that seemed to surge like blood.
It seemed he sat in front of the computer just because there happened to be a chair there, not because of the computer. He seemed to be looking at another point in time through some evil magic.
"Batman placed him in a mental hospital," Constantine suddenly said. "Personally, I think this behavior is not inappropriate. However, this is not good news for us, because there are many lunatics in that mental hospital."
"Then that's great." Shiler stood up and said, "They won't have the slightest interest in us at all."
The two arrived at Arkham Asylum. Batman was not in Cat Getan, and the lunatics seemed to be staying obediently in their own wards. Their arrival attracted the attention of many, but when Shiler showed his credentials, everyone scattered.
Clearly, whether it was Joker or Scarecrow, or even Hugo, none of them had any interest in the police. In fact, they all avoided Shiler. When Shiler headed to the underground observation ward, they all hid in the activity room on the top floor.
"Sometimes being normal has its benefits." Constantine sighed. "Who would have thought that these lunatics are most afraid of the police?"
"They aren't afraid of the police, but of an agent who has no artistic cells. They will definitely complain about how Batman could let me in, disliking that I lowered the artistry of the entire city."
Constantine shook his head slightly, indicating that he didn't understand these lunatics at all. Then, they arrived at the basement. The medical staff here had a good attitude; hearing that they were here to visit Constantine, they took them to the innermost ward.
The main universe Constantine was lying on the bed sleeping. Shiler wanted to step forward to call him, but Constantine stopped him, saying, "This is a fake body. I smell the scent of hell; he should be in his sanctuary."
"You've dealt with them?"
Constantine nodded and said, "Yes, from the Constantine of other universes, I learned that they have a sanctuary on the edge of hell. I have to say, this is crazy."
"Are we going to find him?"
"No need, I can call him back." Constantine took a small bag out of his pocket, which contained some brown soil. He pinched a little with his fingers and placed it on the body of the fake, and after a short while, the fake was ignited and turned into a pile of ashes. But the main universe blonde Constantine pushed the door open with a bang.
"Damn bastards, how dare you... why is it you two?"
"Who else did you think it was? Jesus?"
The main universe Constantine sighed, walked over, sat down on the edge of the bed, and then said, "What do you want with me?"
"You have something of Satan's, right?" Constantine asked. "We need everything related to Satan, or clues."
The main universe Constantine's hand paused, and he said, "Why would you think I have it? I'm not exactly close with him."
"But you've always dealt with him; didn't you get anything?"
"Accepting gifts from Satan is a very dangerous thing." The main universe Constantine pulled out a cigarette and put it in his mouth, and just as he was about to light it, a pitch-black gun barrel was pressed against his forehead.
"I'm not making excuses, but really..." the main universe Constantine explained.
"Smoke." Shiler shook the gun barrel.
The main universe Constantine stiffened, then looked incredulous, the expression on his face like, "What are you two pretending for?"
Shiler's movement remained unchanged, so the main universe Constantine had to put away his lighter. He said, "Are you here to rob me?"
Constantine shook his head slightly and said, "If you have it, I can trade something with you..."
Shiler clearly didn't have such a good temper. He looked at the main universe Constantine and said, "How long has it been since you went to a concert?"
The main universe Constantine's expression turned ugly, and Shiler continued, "Batman knows that locking you here won't stop you from traveling through mysterious spaces. He just trapped your social identity, making you unable to move in ordinary society, because once you show up, you might be caught back. That's not good for you."
Constantine raised an eyebrow; he hadn't expected Batman to deal with Constantine like this. But it was indeed very effective. Because as far as he knew, Constantine didn't actually like using magic, but preferred using non-magical means to solve problems, which was why he was called Hellblazer.
And now, he was identified as a mental patient who needed care, and once he appeared in society, he might be forcibly hospitalized. So although he could use magic to leave here, he could only wander in the occult world. The door to ordinary society was closed to him.
"And you can't resist him," Shiler added, "because he isn't taking revenge on you, but truly believes your mental problems are too severe and need treatment and care. You can't use more and worse means to deepen his impression, otherwise, there will be no peace."
The main universe Constantine showed a slightly bitter smile. "He's not as easy to fool as angels and devils; he's simply the most paranoid mental patient in this world. He wants to reverse my childhood trauma, improve my anxiety, cure my psychological problems, and even left me a position in the Magic Department he founded—can you understand how afraid I am of Jesus now?"
Constantine's mouth twitched; he hadn't expected to hit the mark. The main universe Constantine clearly suffered from Savior Allergy now. The most terrifying thing about this was that if Batman had even half a selfish motive, the main universe Constantine could continue to rot with peace of mind. But Batman didn't; even though Constantine had pitted him so badly, the first thing he did was care about his mental health and want to cure him.
Facing a living Jesus, the main universe Constantine could only stay put. You can't reason with such a person. In front of Batman, no one has the right to degenerate at will, including Constantine, the synonym for degeneration.
The main universe Constantine sighed deeply. "Is it possible that you can improve the current situation?"
"Agreeing with Batman is the improvement." Constantine couldn't help but say.
"Then I'll give it to you," the main universe Constantine was quite generous. "Let's swap; you come over for treatment, and I'll go over there to help you solve the trouble, isn't that just right?"
"Do you know Batman is missing?" Shiler asked.
The main universe Constantine narrowed his eyes slightly and said, "I've been busy with the Magic Department lately and haven't paid much attention here. What happened to him?"
"Investigate the specifics yourself. In short, we need items related to Satan now." Constantine emphasized again, "If you are willing to give it to me, perhaps I can help you persuade him."
"Yeah, he'll listen to you." The main universe Constantine said with irony, "The benchmark among Constantines, a good baby who has turned over a new leaf."
"Where does turning over a new leaf come from?" Constantine said. "I will never let myself be as miserable as you, because too many people are looking forward to this day."
"Fine," the main universe Constantine seemed too lazy to say more. "I did get something from Lucifer, but I'm not sure if it can be used."
"Bring it here and let us see." Shiler, to prevent the main universe Constantine from suggesting taking them to hell, said bluntly, "Bring it here, and we'll know if it's useful."
The main universe Constantine disappeared. After a short while, he brought back a huge box. Shiler was also a bit surprised and said, "This is called a little something? You ransacked his palace?"
"Come on, Satan isn't that poor. This isn't just his; I have to look." The main universe Constantine also looked a bit headache-prone. "Junk that hasn't been useful for eight hundred years; if you hadn't come to look, I might have thrown it away."
He rummaged through the box and found a pile of messy things, which made Constantine wince. Because for many of them, just by looking, one could roughly imagine how this guy got them. For example, scales clearly covered on the neck, feathers from the base of the wings, fragments of certain fabrics, and even half a horn that looked like it had been broken off.
