Chapter 731: With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility (Part 2)

~11 min read 2,004 words

Generally, gods and popes should have a mutually beneficial relationship: gods grant power to popes, and popes help gods spread faith.

But the relationship between Shi Ler and all his gods is relatively diverse—not harmonious, but rather enjoying the spectacle of each other's misfortune.

The moment Lucifer saw Shi Ler apparently locked away by someone from another world, his first reaction was to slam on the brakes with a "Zeng!" then shift into reverse, retreat to a safe distance, and settle in to watch the show.

According to his observation, Shi Ler was confined inside a cube-shaped cage, the cube blue and shimmering with rippling light, like an ocean, more dazzling against the dark backdrop of the universe.

Inside the cube, Shi Ler of course saw that universe, but he didn't focus on Lucifer, whom he had just summoned—he knew perfectly well who had dragged him from his bed and thrown him here, so he shouted into the air:

"Eternity! What are you doing? Put me back right now!"

Eternity appeared outside the cube, calmly asking Shi Ler: "That's what I want to ask you—what exactly are you trying to do?"

"You dare ask me what I'm trying to do???" Shi Ler crossed his arms and snarled. "Threaten me, then try to kidnap me? Is this what Marvel gods are like???"

Eternity was genuinely shocked by Shi Ler's utterly unrepentant attitude.

After communicating with OAA, he naturally understood why Deadpool had gone to his temple to defecate—in short, there wasn't a single speck of shit in this whole affair involving Shi Ler.

Not only did he himself dump shit into the multiverse, but he also ordered Deadpool to defecate on his doorstep, then planned to use Spider-Man to create bugs in the universe and set traps for the Supreme Beings.

What the hell drug had this human, Shi Ler Rodriguez, taken?

Of course, Eternity didn't rule out the possibility that Shi Ler was simply dissatisfied with life and wanted to retaliate against society—but when he looked at Shi Ler's life record, wasn't it perfectly normal? Even remarkably smooth. So why?

Since Eternity's confusion was clearly written on his face, Shi Ler grew even angrier. He took a deep breath and said: "You kidnapped me, and now you're asking me why???"

"I brought you here only to understand why you did these things," Eternity remained calm—not because he had excellent self-control, but because his boss was watching nearby, and he still had to pretend basic manners.

Shi Ler also wore an expression of shock. "Why did I do these things? What did I even do?"

"First, why did you order Deadpool to go to the Temple of Eternity…" Eternity's voice was already clenched with rage, but he forced himself to control his emotions.

"That was just a way to demand compensation—you refused to pay me, so why couldn't I use my own methods to collect?" Shi Ler asked. He believed everything he'd done was perfectly normal, logically and emotionally flawless.

"Compensation? Why should we compensate you?" Eternity asked again.

Shi Ler took a deep breath, furious: "Of course because you reset my universe! Do you have any idea how long it took me to write that paper?!"

!

"

Seeing Eternity's confused expression, Shi Ler forced himself to calm down, then said:

"At the beginning of this year, the Solar System Development Project entered a new phase, and mutants from the Andromeda Galaxy began normal exchanges with other stellar civilizations."

"On this basis, a new discipline emerged—I called it 'Cosmic Social Relations.' Since it was so new, there were virtually no other researchers or students, so I had to study it myself."

"Starting this year, to develop this new discipline, I combed through all human philosophical, sociological, and psychological texts, read countless related papers, and completed the proposals for over a dozen theses."

"By the end of this year, I had five finished papers, which consumed enormous effort. Because they involved some secrets, I stored them separately in secure computers belonging to several factions."

"Tony built the storage units from molten steel, JARVIS performed quality checks on the hardware and connected them to uninterruptible power sources..."

"Then you reset the entire universe."

At this moment, Eternity suddenly spoke: "Hold on—you're showing abnormal vital signs. Your blood pressure is rising at an unnatural rate. You should take deep breaths immediately..."

"I don't need you to teach me!"

!

!"

"So you're demanding compensation because you lost your work? But resetting individual universes is to correct potential errors and ensure cosmic stability," Eternity explained.

"Then why did the universe develop errors? Whose fault is it?" Shi Ler asked, hands on his hips.

"It's... wait, isn't it your fault?" Eternity countered. "Didn't you cause the error by trying to enter the Realm of Death and clashing with cosmic rules?"

"Then why did I want to enter the Realm of Death?" Shi Ler asked again.

"Because..." Eternity paused, then asked, bewildered: "Why did you want to enter the Realm of Death?"

"Because Death signed resurrection agreements with everyone else but refused to sign one with me. Instead of asking me here, why not ask Death why she won't sign a contract with me?" Shi Ler waved his arm.

At this point, Eternity had no answer.

It was like the boss had come to investigate a case, only for the suspect to accidentally reveal that the department manager had embezzled—and coincidentally, Eternity had just cleaned up that manager's mess.

Eternity felt that if he had blood pressure, it would now be rising at an unnatural rate.

"Actually, Death's dealings with life in the universe are violations—she's abusing her authority..." After much thought, Eternity decided to confess. The fault wasn't his; if he kept covering up, everyone would be finished.

After all, Shi Ler had truly pierced the heavens—no one in history had ever dared to dump shit into the multiverse except him.

Now, after investigating, the culprit turned out to be one of their own. How could OAA not be furious?

"If it's a violation, why didn't upper management notice? Why didn't lower staff report it? Why didn't the oversight department investigate? Why is there no direct reporting channel?"

After this barrage of questions, Shi Ler stood up, rolled up his sleeves, and said: "Since you operate on the principle of 'noise equals reward,' then I won't be polite anymore! Where's my ship?!"

"Wait! Shi Ler, calm down—we're still discussing a solution..."

Eternity was indeed discussing a solution with OAA. The best solution, really, was to eliminate the person raising the problem—if they couldn't fix it, eliminate the problem-maker. For OAA, that wasn't difficult.

But Shi Ler could plainly see Lucifer watching from the side, and Eternity and OAA had noticed too. Eternity sensed the other's tier, though he didn't know who he was—but OAA knew perfectly well.

Eliminating the problem-maker was simple, but the rival god standing nearby was grinning ear to ear, barely holding back from mocking them face-to-face.

OAA knew that if Lucifer had traveled across countless worlds just to watch the spectacle, he wouldn't hesitate to return home, spread the news, and then deliver a perfect "friendly nation's shock."

At this point, the reason no longer mattered—it was about winning.

Suddenly, laughter came from inside the cube. Shi Ler lowered his head and began to laugh.

Noticing Eternity and OAA watching him, he spoke: "You think I'd bother you over such a trivial issue?"

"Compensation? Maybe. Greed is human nature—but greed for material things is the lowest form. What I truly crave is your fascinating reaction."

"Omniscient, omnipotent gods?" Shi Ler smiled, the word "mockery" written plainly on his face.

Shi Ler looked up at Eternity, and in his eyes, Eternity saw a madness he couldn't comprehend. How could such a weak, fragile human dare mock gods? Didn't he fear death?

But soon, Eternity realized the man might truly be insane. Beyond mockery, the ravenous, predatory greed radiating from Shi Ler nearly ignited the silent space.

There is no emotion more insane than greed—if all of Shi Ler were mad, then greed would be the maddest part.

"I always hoped to be an ordinary person, but clearly, in this matter, I didn't choose that."

"Because I once told a child, 'With great power comes great responsibility.' I never thought it was a joke."

"So now, I stand on the opposite side of you, representing all living beings in all universes, to ask you one question."

Shi Ler narrowed his eyes at Eternity. Amid the shifting, hazy light of the cube's barrier, Eternity saw him reveal fangs sharper than a bat's.

"'With great power comes great responsibility'—the lesson you taught Spider-Man through countless mouths. Did you ever truly live by it?"

"Do the responsibilities you bear truly match your omniscient, omnipotent power?"

"Answer me... are you worthy?"

As the universe fell silent, Shi Ler suddenly heard a familiar voice in his mind: "Looks like they want to kill you. How about I get you out of here?"

"You caused this mess?! If I'd known, I'd have crowned you my Pope myself. Brilliant job!"

"Do you have a problem?" Shi Ler snapped. "You know I'm about to be killed, and you're not even helping me escape? If I get back to that universe, I'll tell everyone you're dating a policewoman and still need to..."

"Shut up! Don't say it!" Lucifer immediately interrupted. "I think they're about to move. I'll take you back to your universe before they swallow your feathers."

With that, the universe controlled by Lucifer began drifting toward them. Though it drifted, its speed was immense—in the blink of an eye, it arrived beside the cube.

Lucifer had planned to approach the cube, use his power to breach its outer wall, drag Shi Ler out, and shove him into his vehicle—the standard jailbreak routine.

But as soon as he neared the cube and applied his power, he realized his rank was insufficient—he couldn't break through its defenses at all.

The situation became awkward: the jailbreakers arrived, tools ready, but the ropes wouldn't cut.

As Lucifer froze, he heard Shi Ler inside the cube shout:

"Eternity!

Someone's breaking in!

! Eternity! Eternity, wake up!

Eternity! Someone's trying to break in!

!

"

Lucifer cursed loudly and turned to flee, shouting as he ran: "Shi Ler! Are you insane?!

Which side are you on?!

!"

But it was too late. OAA sensed movement around Shi Ler's cage and instinctively activated the cube.

Many functions of the blue cube couldn't manifest on Lucifer, who existed in another world—but one thing remained constant: when activated, it generated immense suction.

Before Lucifer had gone far, his vehicle—and himself—were pulled backward like reverse gear, hurtling toward the cube.

Though Lucifer was second only to one in DC, he was still only second. OAA was truly above all others. In terms of rank, Lucifer was inferior to OAA.

As he was pulled toward the cube, Lucifer screamed: "Shi Ler!

! Do you want to kill me?!

!

"

At that moment, a voice echoed in his mind—Shi Ler's voice, utterly calm, even cold:

"Crash right in. Then shout 'God!'"

"Are you crazy?! What are you trying to do?!"

"What am I trying to do?" Shi Ler's voice dripped with boundless madness:

"I'm going to teach gods a lesson!

!"

"You're insane!"

!」

Go!

Knowing he could not escape, Lucifer gritted his teeth, stomped his foot, and slammed the accelerator, smashing the entire universe into the blue cube.

A power utterly incompatible yet far more advanced instantly swallowed Lucifer, relentlessly tearing apart his body and energy.

The threat of death triggered his instinct to scream out the word:

Dad!

!」

Instantly, cosmic light flared, covering the entire cube within an imperceptibly brief moment.

With a "whoosh," the man, the car, and the cube cage vanished together.

In the universe, only Shiler's cold laugh echoed:

「Remember, you said it yourselves—greater power, greater responsibility…」

「Greater responsibility, greater compensation!

「Thank you!
