Chapter 1486: Humble Kinship
As Jian Yixin looked at these things, Wu Ying followed behind her, taking a step for every step she took.
She didn't really want to follow; it was mainly out of nervousness.
She was afraid it would be impolite not to follow.
Jian Yixin turned her head and looked at her with dissatisfaction: "Why are you following me? Are you afraid I'll steal something?"
"No, no, of course not..." Wu Ying waved her hands repeatedly.
"I was afraid you were thirsty and wanted to ask if you wanted a drink? No, your father said you like fruit juice, I'll go juice some fruit..." She went to the kitchen as if fleeing.
Her child had also long since run back to his room, not daring to show his face again.
The mother and son looked at Jian Yixin as if they were looking at a flood or a wild beast.
She couldn't be bothered to pay them any mind and prepared to go up to the second floor to check on her mother's room.
But halfway there, she came back down the stairs; her mother's room was now occupied by that woman named Wu Ying, so there was nothing worth seeing.
She walked to the music room and pushed open the door.
Fortunately, the layout here was still the original one; nothing had changed. It was even rarely cleaned, and there was a thin layer of dust on the piano and the piano bench!
When Lady Jian was alive, she would play a couple of songs in the music room when she had nothing to do, and sometimes mother and daughter would play a duet. How wonderful those times were; the mother and daughter were in perfect harmony, and every note was a symbol of happiness.
But now that was gone, and it would never exist again.
Jian Yixin walked in, lifted the piano lid, and tested the feel.
It was still the same as before, so she sat down and played "Mysterious Garden," the piano music filled with deep, inseparable longing and endless sorrow.
The song ended.
Her father said from behind her: "I knew it, you didn't come back because you didn't dare to."
Dad was back.
She wiped her face messily, not wanting her father to see her crying.
Then she turned her head to greet him: "Dad, I have something to discuss with you."
He stood at the doorway, carrying a bag of vegetables in his hand, without changing into slippers or taking off his coat; it looked like he had just returned from outside.
"Hmm, since you're back, have a meal at home before you go. We can talk about whatever it is after eating."
"No need, let's just talk about the matter directly."
Jian Yixin did not want to stay for a meal.
Before she returned, she felt that her father would have aged a lot.
Because many loving couples are like this; after one passes away, the other loses their spiritual anchor and will look very old!
Her parents were the most loving couple; when her mother suddenly passed away, her father's hair turned white overnight, and he aged more than ten years.
But now, her father seemed even younger than before; his silver hair was dyed black, and he was in high spirits. These were likely all thanks to Wu Ying.
Jian Xiansheng was not surprised that his daughter refused to eat at home; he had expected his daughter to say that.
But he still wanted to try, so he held the vegetable basket to his chest and said as if presenting a treasure: "Look, I picked these green vegetables myself from the greenhouse in the countryside. The dew on them hasn't even dried yet. I'll cook your favorite garlic stir-fried kale myself, how about that?"
Garlic stir-fried kale, her favorite food; her father still remembered.
Jian Yixin could not bear to refuse again, so she agreed: "Okay."
There were only the father and daughter at the dining table.
Wu Ying made an excuse about visiting relatives and took her son to hide away.
The meal the father and daughter ate was somewhat heavy-hearted.
Jian Yixin could tell that her father was trying to please her!
She felt very uncomfortable inside.
If he was "pleasing" her only because of that woman, she would rather not have such kindness.
"Dad, I heard you intend to leave this house to Wu Ying?"
"Yes."
"I don't object to you giving her property, but this house cannot be left to her. I can exchange it with her for something of equal value."
Jian Yixin thought her father would agree to her request.
After all, the reason he gave at the time was that he wanted to leave Wu Ying a house where she could settle down after he was gone!
That didn't necessarily have to be this house; a high-end Apartment in the city center would have a better price-performance ratio than this Villa.
It was just that the mother and son didn't need a very large place, and the price difference of the houses could be made up with money. For them, it was only profitable, so her father should be able to agree.
However, Jian Xiansheng did not agree.
"This house is mine. I still have the right to decide who I want to leave it to. I have the final say." The implication was—no exchange.
"That's right, the house is yours, but don't forget that this house is also my mother's."
"We grew up here since we were children, and it holds too many memories for us. I don't want the place where my mother lived to be occupied by another woman."
"Are you really that good to your mother? If things were really as you say, why haven't I seen you come back to pay your respects in over a year, and you didn't even come for the New Year? If I hadn't made a will, would you still not have come back?"
Jian Xiansheng was right about these few points; that was exactly what she thought.
"I have gone to pay my respects; I go to my mother's grave to pay my respects during every holiday."
"And what about me? Do you only have your mother in your heart and not your father?"
"Or are you waiting until I'm gone to go to the grave to pay your respects? Since you are so wary of this house, why must you have it?"
Jian Yixin was left speechless by her father.
Jian Xiansheng continued: "I know the reason you don't come back is because of Wu Ying, because you can't accept it emotionally, but when I married her, you all agreed to it too."
Jian Yixin blurted out: "I was muddle-headed at the time."
Her father pressed on, asking: "So you must insist on me being a lonely widower before you are willing to accept me as your father again?"
"No."
"Then what do you want me to do? Divorce?"
Wu Ying takes very good care of her father, and Jian Yixin acknowledges this in her heart.
If her father lived alone, he certainly wouldn't have his current vitality; she understands the logic, but emotionally, it is still very hard to accept.
Jian Yixin is not good at speaking her mind to others, to anyone at all, even if the person in front of her is her father.
She says with an expressionless face, stiffly: "You can keep things as they are, everything remains unchanged, but this house cannot be left to Wu Ying."
The conversation was killed off again, as if nothing had changed at all.
Very well, Jian Xiansheng compromises: "I can agree, but you must also agree to one condition of mine."
"Please speak."
"You come over once a week, or if you don't have time to come over, a phone call will do, but the phone call cannot be shorter than three minutes; if you agree to this request, I will agree to yours."
Jian Xiansheng went through such a big circle, actually just wanting to know if his daughter is doing well, wanting to see his daughter's face, and hear his daughter's voice, nothing more.
This request is humble and helpless.
Jian Yixin thought about it for a moment and agreed.
Jiangzhou University.
Inside the campus.
Zichen walks in front, Moli follows behind, taking a step for every step taken.
Zichen suddenly turns around, so the two bump into each other; Moli is caught off guard and lands on the ground on his bottom, and Zichen has no choice but to pull him up.
