Chapter 44: The Godfather
"Let me become little Xia Ya's godfather?"
Aaron felt somewhat amused.
A godfather is equivalent to a foster father in the East, and even holds custodial rights; if little Xia Ya's parents were to meet with an accident, then theoretically, he would have the responsibility of raising him.
Furthermore, to be a bit dark, if the Earl were to pass away in the future and Colin were also to die, Aaron could completely rely on his guardianship to directly act as the Earl of Green Forest!
From a legal standpoint, this would have one more layer of legitimacy than Sean.
"I don't mind, but I'm afraid Colin won't agree... and this is just a rumor; it might have been deliberately spread by some lady to sow discord..."
Aaron shrugged his shoulders: "We don't need this, so there's no need to push for anything, understand?"
While speaking, he pressed his temples.
Just now, his Spirituality surged, and he seemed to sense some vague scene, but then there was nothing.
This caused a guess to involuntarily surface in Aaron's heart: 'Is this... the ability of divination... has the Dark Spirit strengthened my intuition?'
'Could it be... that the 'Sun' or the 【Black Sun】 of the dream world also possesses the symbol of divination?'
'The path of the Black Sun is 'Darkness', related to corruption... wait, could this mean that I intuitively sensed some conspiracy? A future conspiracy?'
His expression became serious.
Albert, meanwhile, bent his waist even lower.
He felt a terrifying heat surging out from in front of him, as if what stood before him was not a lord, but a dark furnace!
Pitch-black flames rose, as if a black sun had ascended, swallowing him whole.
"Ah!"
Albert woke up as if from a Nightmare, his forehead covered in cold sweat.
'His Lordship's majesty... simply surpasses that of an Earl... no... surpasses... humanity!'
Sotos Castle.
"Godfather? Why him?"
Jinni rolled her eyes upon hearing Colin's roar.
Then, unsurprisingly, she saw Colin being chased out of Theodore's study in a disheveled state.
"Things decided by Father are never subject to change... he is just like the Ancestor, Steadfast!"
Jinni lowered her voice, looking at her biological brother Sean beside her.
Sean's expression was also not very good: "If this happens, once something happens to Colin, Aaron will inevitably ascend..."
In the concepts of the Green Forest People, only primogeniture is barely considered a righteous cause.
Once the eldest son dies, the inheritance rights enjoyed by his brothers are basically the same; there is no priority of one over the other.
That is to say, if Colin dies, the title can be inherited by Aaron, or it can be inherited by Sean; both are reasonable.
Of course, he has a son, so the son's order of succession would be above the uncles.
Then, relying on the custodial rights of a godfather, Aaron's priority would exceed Sean's, at least until Xia Ya comes of age.
If it were a female heir who encountered this situation, it would be even more miserable; perhaps even her marriage would be directly arranged by the godfather.
One could completely strip the territory clean before the heir grows up.
"Colin is the eldest son, Aaron is the son who satisfies him... what am I? I am nothing!"
Sean mocked himself.
"At least... you recognize yourself."
Jinni added from the side, then pouted: "I want to eat caramel pudding; the one made in the castle kitchen is never that authentic..."
Colin walked out of the castle, mounted his horse, and arrived at a villa in the small town.
He kept a mistress here.
Well, for the Green Forest People, this was nothing; Colin even occasionally liked to find those streetwalkers in town for amusement.
It seemed that to compensate for his wife's infidelity, he was very keen on this aspect.
Outside the villa, Colin dismounted, and thinking of his mistress's shy face, his heart stirred.
"Elaine, I'm here!"
He walked through the gate, grabbed a beautiful young girl, and couldn't wait to embrace and kiss her.
"Wait a moment, there is a guest!"
Elaine's face flushed, and she hurriedly refused.
"A guest? Who? A merchant wanting to get some passage rights and tax cuts?"
Colin frowned and went to the living room.
Then, he saw someone who surprised him greatly.
"Lord Colin, we meet again."
The special envoy of the Kajashi Kingdom, Feili Getuo, whom he had met once at the wedding, stood up, bowed respectfully, and offered a greeting.
"It's you?"
Colin stared at Feili, feeling somewhat dazed.
The former Feili Getuo wore silk robes, his hair was neatly groomed, and his eyes were full of pride; he was completely dressed like an upper-class aristocrat.
But at this moment, he was wearing a gray coat, his hair was messy like a bird's nest, and there was a fawning smile on his face; he was no different from those merchants anymore.
This immediately made Colin realize that he seemed to have underestimated this Legendary court jester of the King.
"You came to Green Forest secretly... what do you want to do?"
Colin entered the living room and asked in a deep voice.
"I have come to assist Lord Colin. I heard that you have encountered some... er... minor troubles?" Feili Getuo said, "The Kajashi Kingdom is willing to help you become the undisputed Green Forest Earl... This would be beneficial for both of us."
"Are you the spymaster of the goat-men?"
Colin was not stupid; he immediately sensed the scent of a conspiracy and sneered, "You want me to betray Green Forest, to betray my father? I am already the heir; I do not need any help!"
His hand was already gripping the hilt of his sword, ready at any moment to sever the head of the person before him.
"No, no, no. According to the news I have heard, your position as heir is already in jeopardy... Furthermore, according to the barbaric traditions of Green Forest, the legendary Green Forest King also favored his second son, and thus killed his eldest son to pave the way for him..."
Feili smiled and said, "Do you... want to become a stepping stone for Aaron?"
Watching the suddenly frozen Colin, he sneered in his heart: 'As expected, he is a fool. Even your younger brother knows not to have contact with me and to stay far away... However, fools are good; only fools are beneficial to the Kingdom!'
Inexplicably, Feili thought of that unflappable youth again: 'If a king like Aaron were to ascend to power, he would certainly cast his gaze beyond Green Forest, and then the Kingdom would be in danger...'
"You..."
Colin's expression changed several times, but he fell into a Weird silence, his palm releasing the sword hilt.
"That is right, respected Lord. We are not asking you to betray your father; the only one we are targeting is your younger brother..."
Feili continued to entice him, while thinking to himself: 'Regardless of whether the conspiracy succeeds or fails, I will leak it out... Letting Green Forest fall into internal strife, and preferably split apart once again, is what best serves the interests of the Kingdom. Those remnants of the Davis Family are truly too stupid; they have actually had more than half of their number captured, and they are no longer worth investing in...'
