Chapter 109: If You Can Crawl Out of a Coffin, It Must Have Been Buried Too Shallow

~10 min read 1,801 words

"Why are you only just now coming!"

Lun Na De saw Lei Ke Dun appear beside him, his voice tinged with anger and self‑reproach.

"Sorry!"

Lei Ke Dun had intended to say that your goddess and that priest wouldn't allow it, but what came out was a shallow apology.

"It's all my fault; if I were stronger, if I had discovered the problem earlier."

Lun Na De fell into deep self‑reproach, clenching his fists and pounding the floor hard.

Lei Ke Dun tried to stop him, telling him that this matter had nothing to do with anyone present, and that events would not shift because of human will.

"I suppose I now understand the feelings of those perpetually late police on TV."

Lei Ke Dun made a self‑deprecating remark in his mind.

Clank clank~

Running sounds came from around, the newly arrived Punishment Agents and Mechanical Hearts.

"Now that's the truly late police."

Lei Ke Dun whispered a line, then his figure quickly faded and vanished.

After leaving Black Thorn Security Company, Lei Ke Dun's form flickered and reappeared near the Night Church.

"Indeed! Acting as a devotee of the Knowledge God is so inconvenient, it's practically a built‑in hatred debuff!"

"I'm certainly on Script 0-08 now, what a hassle! Who exactly has been influencing my judgment and attention?"

Lei Ke Dun muttered softly to himself. He had deliberately avoided Script 0-08, yet turned around and was assigned by others again.

"Had I known, I would have later figured out how to steal that drop of Eternal Blazing Sun Divine Blood."

Lei Ke Dun sighed helplessly; every impulse at any time comes with a price.

Given the current situation, Lei Ke Dun's most reasonable conjecture is:

When he was in Mo Er Si Church cooperating with Pa Lie Si to steal that drop of divine blood, the goddess noticed him. To prevent a suddenly appearing divine favored from affecting later developments, she silently gave the other party a slight influence.

"I truly wonder if I've been cursed with some misfortune; events are unusually unfavorable, and now I might even have entered A Meng's brother's sight," Gu sighed.

Lei Ke Dun walked toward the Night Church ahead. Having stolen someone's belongings and been discovered, he could only hope the goddess, out of respect for the Knowledge God, wouldn't hold it against him too much.

This place isn't far from Black Thorn Security Company; the battle noise from earlier was considerable, and the crowd here also noticed the commotion.

The surrounding people seemed uneasy; some chose to pray in the nearby church, others kept their distance.

Lei Ke Dun followed the uneasy crowd into the church, and upon stepping inside, felt his heart become much calmer.

"An Extraordinary One is soothing the crowd's emotions!" Lei Ke Dun guessed in his mind.

Following the crowd's movements, Lei Ke Dun prayed once before the Night Holy Emblem, then dropped a 5‑pound 13‑soule banknote into the offering box ahead.

It's not that Lei Ke Dun doesn't want to give more; he only has this cash on him.

The value of that drop of Eternal Blazing Sun Divine Blood far exceeds a few gold pounds, but having not brought enough money, he could only put all his cash into the offering box.

Stealing the Mutated Sun Holy Emblem earlier was equivalent to destroying a seal of the Night Church.

After that Mutated Sun Holy Emblem had its divine blood removed, it could still retain its miraculous effect for a while, but would gradually fade over time, eventually becoming an ordinary Sun Holy Emblem.

After leaving his offering in the box, Lei Ke Dun hesitated briefly, then left the Night Church.

The moment he stepped out of the church, whether illusion or not, Lei Ke Dun felt a lightness, as if the burden on his shoulders had vanished.

In a room somewhere on the outskirts of Ting Gen, a slightly pallid hand picked up a classic feather pen and wrote a line in an ordinary notebook:

"The story of Ting Gen ends here."

The pages rustled, the notebook snapped shut with a thud, leaving only its brown cover.

"One story has ended, another is about to begin."

Walking the streets of Ting Gen, Lei Ke Dun suddenly felt inspiration stir and, as if enlightened, uttered a prophetic line.

After saying it, Lei Ke Dun came to his senses, realizing he had again involuntarily entered a prophetic state.

"I feel that if this continues, my Reader Sequence Four prophetic elixir needs no ceremony and could even dissolve upon ingestion!"

Lei Ke Dun muttered helplessly.

Aimlessly wandering Ting Gen's main street, Lei Ke Dun plans to wait here until Ke Lai En revives, meet him, then return to Bei Ke Lan De.

"The matter has reached a pause; I hope I won't again forget what I intend to do."

He sighed helplessly in his mind.

Even without ever formally meeting the Extraordinary Ones of the Audience Path, Lei Ke Dun has already begun to dislike them.

While strolling the street, Lei Ke Dun unexpectedly ran into Lun Na De, whose expression was grim, and he seemed to be constantly giving himself mental pep talks.

"Why are you here?"

Lun Na De also saw Lei Ke Dun approaching.

"Just passing by," Lei Ke Dun replied.

"You've done your best; feeling sad is natural, but there's no need for self‑blame."

Seeing his expression still grim, Lei Ke Dun offered some consolation.

"No self‑blame? How could that be?"

Lun Na De's voice was low.

"Perhaps, in the Deep Dark Heaven, they have already found peace and liberation, or perhaps a miracle of resurrection will occur."

Seeing his will still despondent, Lei Ke Dun gently reminded him.

"Liberation. Miracle? Perhaps only by killing him, the captain, and even myself, can we obtain liberation!"

Lun Na De's resolve recovered considerably, but his direction differed from Lei Ke Dun's consolation, so he offered a blessing:

"I wish you good luck; though difficult, hope is not dim."

"Really?"

Lun Na De's eyes lit up.

"Really! Just treat it as one of my prophecies."

Lei Ke Dun gave a slight nod, giving an affirmative answer.

Passing by Lun Na De, the two walked in opposite directions.

Lei Ke Dun stayed in Tinggen for a few days, until the funeral ended.

When night fell, Lei Ke Dun arrived at La Fei Er Cemetery carrying two bouquets of white flowers.

After placing a bouquet of white flowers at Deng En's and Ke Lai En's graves respectively, he quietly walked to the side to wait.

Lei Ke Dun hadn't waited long enough for Ke Lai En to crawl out of the tomb before Mr. Az Ke arrived—his skin tanned bronze, eyes weary, features gentle, a tiny black mole beneath his right ear—holding a bouquet of white flowers to pay his respects.

They exchanged a glance, then silently averted their eyes. Lei Ke Dun remained before a tombstone, while Mr. Az Ke walked to Ke Lai En's tomb, stood there for a long while, finally bowed to lay down the bouquet, and turned to leave the cemetery.

Lei Ke Dun lowered his head to look at the tombstone before him, grateful that someone had visited it during the day and left fresh flowers; otherwise his actions would seem very suspicious.

After Mr. Az Ke left, Lei Ke Dun went to Ke Lai En's burial pit.

Streaks of starlight fell, coalescing beside Lei Ke Dun into the shape of a high-back chair; he naturally sat on the starlight‑formed chair, quietly gazing at Ke Lai En's tombstone.

The Eye of Secret Insight pierced the soil and wooden coffin, seeing Ke Lai En lying inside. The wound on his left chest was slowly writhing as it healed!

Suddenly, the stone slab sealing the burial pit shifted, and a slightly pallid hand emerged from the soil.

Lei Ke Dun raised an eyebrow:

"He can still crawl out of the coffin; indeed, it was buried too shallowly!"

He then reached into the void ahead, grasped, and pulled from the spirit realm several sheets of pale‑yellow paper edged in gold with a sunflower pattern.

Next, he took a handful of powdered material from his pocket and sprinkled it evenly over the papers.

A vivid illustration of a zombie crawling out of a grave appeared on the paper.

Looking at the watercolor in his hand, Lei Ke Dun nodded with satisfaction, then sprinkled powder on another sheet, creating a cartoon‑style black cat watercolor.

Wow!

The slab was pushed aside, the coffin lid lifted, and the resurrected Ke Lai En sat up in his own grave.

Ke Lai En, slightly bewildered, looked around and then saw Lei Ke Dun seated on a starlight‑formed high-back chair, holding several pale‑yellow sheets and smiling as he examined them.

A wave of familiarity washed over him, and the memories of his near‑death returned to his mind.

A hand clutching Sheng Sai Lin Na's urn, the slightly pallid hand that had pierced his left chest, and the silhouette that had appeared when he finally lost consciousness.

"You! You are the one behind it!"

Ke Lai En's voice instantly filled with panic. He hadn't yet figured out how he was alive again, and someone was already watching over his corpse!

"Even though I arrived a bit late, it doesn't make me the mastermind behind it!"

Lei Ke Dun let out a sigh, his head darkened with frustration.

The answer from the person opposite eased Ke Lai En's tension a little; as long as he wasn't being buried alive, it was fine, though he remained wary of the sudden newcomer.

"You, who are you?"

Ke Lai En asked cautiously.

"You could say I'm an investor sent by the Hidden Sage, hmm, an investment in you."

Lei Ke Dun thought for a moment and said.

"Aren't you curious how you came back to life?"

Lei Ke Dun didn't wait for the other to continue questioning; he asked first.

Upon hearing that, Ke Lai En reflexively lowered his head, unbuttoned his coat, and looked at the wound on his left chest. The wound, which should have been gruesome, was writhing as it healed; though slow, it was more than half healed.

A cold night wind blew, and Ke Lai En shivered, coming to his senses.

Looking at Lei Ke Dun seated on the starlight‑formed high-back chair ahead, and recalling Old Neil's earlier attempt to obtain knowledge from the Hidden Sage to resurrect his wife, Ke Lai En said with doubt and a wry smile:

"My resurrection is connected to the Hidden Sage?"

"No, the Hidden Sage merely noticed some of your peculiarities and decided to invest in you."

"You previously gazed at the lingering mark of the Hidden Sage; you saw Him, and He saw you."
