Chapter 110: Divination
After calming his emotions for a while, Ke Lai En was just about to ask something.
"You"
"Are you sure you don't want to crawl out of the grave first? Even though it's your own grave, this still feels rather odd."
Lei Ke Dun reminded him with a sentence.
"Ugh"
Ke Lai En swallowed what he wanted to say, braced with his hand, rolled over and stood up, and found that his "Clown" ability hadn't vanished.
After stepping out of the coffin, Ke Lai En stood beside his own tombstone and read the inscription.
"Best brother, best younger brother, best colleague"
His mood grew heavy again, a nameless sorrow spreading in his heart.
Finally, he let out a sigh, averted his gaze, squatted down, closed the coffin lid again, filled the earth, and placed the stone slab.
After finishing all that, Ke Lai En stood up again and clapped his hands.
"I thought you'd let me help you restore this place!"
Lei Ke Dun spoke up, interrupting Ke Lai En's thoughts.
Ke Lai En was stunned for a moment, then said:
"You could have reminded me earlier!"
"Shall I go look at your captain's grave?"
Lei Ke Dun asked.
Without waiting for Ke Lai En's answer, he rose from the star‑filled high‑back chair, walked to the other side, and the chair left behind dissolved into specks of starlight.
Ke Lai En followed Lei Ke Dun and arrived at his captain's tombstone, staring blankly as his vision grew hazy.
Ke Lai En rambled at Deng En's grave for a long time, and finally, choking a bit, said:
"Captain, we're also reluctant to let you go!"
Lei Ke Dun stood at a distance, watching Ke Lai En babble at Deng En's tombstone, without stepping forward.
Only after Ke Lai En steadied his emotions did he walk over, asking in a mildly concerned tone:
"Have you gotten yourself back into shape?"
"Mm."
Ke Lai En answered calmly, then looked into Lei Ke Dun's eyes and asked solemnly:
"Do you know who the real culprit behind all these events is?"
"Yinsi Zangweier, former Archbishop of the Night Church," Lei Ke Dun replied.
Without waiting for Ke Lai En's follow‑up, he continued:
"A spirit wandering in illusion, a benevolent upper‑world being toward humanity, the messenger belonging solely to 'A Er Tai En Si'."
"This is the summoning incantation of my messenger; you can use it to contact me."
"If you wish, you may also tell me your honored name, or that of the one behind you; I'll find a time later to recite it."
Ke Lai En felt nervous at Lei Ke Dun's words, then became hesitant.
Lei Ke Dun simply handed him a gold coin:
"If you're indecisive, why not try a divination? It's the custom of your diviners."
Ke Lai En took the gold coin; he felt the person opposite him was oddly familiar, even though he didn't actually know him.
Ke Lai En didn't hesitate; he simply tossed the coin into the air, caught it, and performed a swift divination.
After receiving a definitive answer, Ke Lai En relaxed slightly; though he didn't know whether the other had set any counter‑divination measures, he now had neither right nor reason to refuse.
He reached out and handed the gold coin back.
"Keep it; you probably have no money on you now."
Lei Ke Dun didn't take the coin Ke Lai En offered.
Ke Lai En silently withdrew his hand, not because it was a gold coin but because, as the other said, he truly had no money on him.
"I can tell you the honored name of that great being."
"The Fool beyond this era, the mysterious ruler above the Gray Mist, the Yellow‑Black King who commands good fortune."
Ke Lai En was speaking of that great being; he didn't know how much the other knew about him, but the identity of the Fool was one of his biggest secrets, and he would absolutely avoid exposing it if possible.
Lei Ke Dun didn't mind Ke Lai En's guard; that was the normal reaction, and if he trusted him so quickly, Lei Ke Dun truly began to worry whether there was a problem.
"Fine! I'll pray to that great being later."
"You'll probably need some private time ahead to handle your own affairs; I won't disturb you. If anything comes up, you can reach me via my messenger."
After speaking, Lei Ke Dun turned and stepped into the spirit realm.
Ke Lai En watched the figure before him fade away swiftly, suddenly envying that effortless come‑and‑go ability.
"I don't know his sequence rank, but it can't be low—maybe Sequence Five? Or higher?"
Ke Lai En stared at the spot where Lei Ke Dun vanished, murmuring to himself for a while.
The other showed no malice, and his spiritual intuition gave no warning, which was the real reason Ke Lai En was willing to temporarily trust his words.
After settling his emotions, Ke Lai En found a secluded spot, walked back four steps, and entered Above the Gray Mist.
Sitting in the Fool's seat, Ke Lai En manifested a yellow‑brown parchment and a fountain pen, writing a line of divination:
"The one who kills me."
Although the one called A Er Tai En Si had just named the murderer, Ke Lai En still wanted to confirm once more.
Through meditation, he quickly entered a dream, finding himself in a hazy gray world.
There he saw the former Archbishop of the Night Church with short dark‑gold hair. He wore a black double‑breasted long formal coat, his eyes deep blue‑almost black, though one was blind; his facial features were chiseled, without a single wrinkle.
"His true purpose in scheming all this was to obtain the ashes of Sheng Sailinna, kept behind Charles Gate, and thereby ascend to Sequence Four of the Insomniac Path?"
"His target is actually more the captain, not me"
"Klein again wrote the corresponding divination phrase on the parchment, took up the pendulum, and let the citrine pendant hover over the paper, almost touching."
"After silently reciting the divination phrase, the citrine pendant rotated clockwise."
"Divination successful!;"
"Afterwards, Klein wrote a new divination phrase on the parchment:"
"\"Al·Thains bears me no ill will. \""
"He closed his eyes again, silently recited the divination phrase, and performed the corresponding divination."
"The citrine pendant continued to rotate clockwise. Divination successful!"
"Klein continued to divine above the gray fog the positions of Ince·Zangwil and Lanrlius, and the results all pointed to Backlund."
"Just as Klein was about to continue divining other matters, the gray fog before him surged like a tide, a deep-red star appeared, constantly expanding and contracting, and vague prayer voices echoed upon the gray fog."
"Klein quickly extended his consciousness to the suddenly appearing deep-red star; the scene that entered his view was that of Al·Thains, whom he had just seen not long ago, reciting the Fool's honorific in a study."
"\"He's already started reciting the honorific so soon? I thought he would first do the corresponding divination and preparations! \"
"\"Or perhaps he is very confident in himself? \""
"Klein muttered a few words to himself."
"Thereafter, via the connection of the deep-red star, he pulled Al·Thains into the gray fog."
"After reciting the Fool's honorific several times in the study, Reckton had originally planned to rest first and wait for Klein's response, but unexpectedly, in the next moment the scene flipped and he found himself appearing upon the gray fog."
"Gazing at the suddenly shifting scene before him, there was a lofty dome, an ancient bronze long table and high-backed chairs, and seated at the uppermost end of the bronze long table, shrouded in gray fog, an indistinct figure."
"Reckton did not restrain his curiosity, carefully examining his surroundings."
"After a while, as if just coming to his senses, he rose and saluted the figure seated at the uppermost end of the bronze long table."
"\"Good evening! How should I address you? \""
"Reckton, as if he had already rehearsed many times in his heart, spoke very calmly."
"\"They call me Mister Fool. \""
"Klein, shrouded beneath the gray fog, spoke with an indifferent tone that also carried an inherent dignity."
"\"I feel like he's more curious about this gray fog and its surroundings than he is about me, Mister Fool! \""
"Klein silently muttered to himself."
"From the moment he pulled Reckton into this gray fog space, he had already activated his spiritual vision, observing the other's emotional changes."
"The other's emotional fluctuations when facing this gray fog space were greater than those when seeing his own Foolish self; of course, it cannot be ruled out that the other had made psychological preparations during this period."
"\"Alright, Mister Fool. \""
"Reckton agreed readily."
"\"His purpose. \""
"Klein tried to make his Foolish image appear profound and inscrutable."
"The one sitting opposite is suspected to be a Sequence Five, possibly Sequence Four individual; we must deal with him cautiously."
"\"The Hidden Sage wishes to reach a certain cooperation with you; before you reascend to the throne of the Great Ruler above the Spirit World, the Hidden Sage will grant you some aid, of which I am one, and another part relies on the Spirit World, a completely new system different from potions. \""
"\"Of course, if needed, there can also be other forms of assistance, or rather investment. \""
"Reckton related the remarks he had prepared in advance."
"Upon hearing the phrase \"become the Great Ruler above the Spirit World, \" Klein froze, breaking out in a cold sweat behind his back; he strongly suspected that the other already knew he was not a true great entity."
"Forcibly suppressing his inner shock, maintaining his voice and appearance, he continued to speak while preserving his profound and inscrutable image:"
"\"Reliant on the Spirit World, a completely new system different from potions? \""
"This question indeed is one that Klein is very concerned about; a completely new system not belonging to potions has already broken his existing occult common sense."
"\"Please allow me to demonstrate. \""
"After receiving affirmation from Mister Fool, Reckton stood up, quickly closed his eyes to meditate, sketched a complete pattern in his mind, and agitated his own spirituality."
"The spirituality on his body undulated like water waves, and an incomplete ring formed of gears and chains appeared behind him."
"He displayed the ring and gave a detailed introduction of its abilities."
"\"You can inquire of the Seven Lights of the Spirit World for more detailed information; they know far more about this system than I do, and they can answer more of your doubts. \""
"Reckton briefly mentioned the Seven Lights of the Spirit World."
"Being able to establish contact with the Seven Lights earlier would be a good thing for Klein."
