Chapter 140: Father Utterfsky
Lei Kedun's gaze was strange as he scanned back and forth in front of Ke Lai En and De Sitini several times. He thought fate was like a super nanny, worrying herself to death over these troublesome bratty children of the fate path.
Ke Lai En could barely endure Lei Kedun's stare and couldn't help but speak up:
"What are you looking at me for?"
"I want to ask a favor of you."
Lei Kedun said, pulling from his pocket a small iron box sealed by a spiritual wall; inside was one of the spoils he had obtained yesterday from Tu Erna of the Du Ya Bang, an amethyst ring.
Lei Kedun reiterated to Ke Lai En what De Sitini had said yesterday, then added:
"I hope to obtain the Fool's assistance to strip the misfortune from this ring and forge it into a talisman."
"I think it's more appropriate for you to ask."
"The Fool?"
De Sitini repeated it, then looked at Lei Kedun and asked with some doubt:
"Charatu? Or Antigunus?"
"Neither!"
Even though De Sitini kept his eyes closed, Lei Kedun instinctively shook his head.
Ke Lai En, seated to Lei Kedun's left, was momentarily stunned, as the title 'Fool' seemed to carry another meaning, then turned his head and cast a puzzled gaze at Lei Kedun.
"The Fool is the designation for the Divination path's Sequence 0, and Charatu and Antigunus are strong contenders for that position."
Lei Kedun explained this to Ke Lai En.
Lei Kedun brought up the Fool in front of De Sitini deliberately to steer the conversation that way.
Rather than dumping all the information on Ke Lai En at once, Lei Kedun preferred letting Ke Lai En discover it himself, pose a question, and then provide the answer.
Lei Kedun thought this must be a flaw common to every extraordinary follower of the Reader path.
But once Sequence 0 was mentioned, Lei Kedun simply continued to brief Ke Lai En on the related knowledge:
"The primary ingredients of the Sequence 0 elixir are three copies of Sequence 1's extraordinary traits, plus uniqueness."
"Thus, a path that possesses Sequence 0 cannot have Sequence 1, except for certain special paths, such as the Observer path."
"Why is the Observer an exception?"
Ke Lai En asked further.
"Do you know the description of the Imaginary Dragon? Whatever it imagines will manifest, the realms it fantasizes will descend into the material world, and the futures it declares will unfold as reality."
"An Imaginer can separate two Sequence 1 extraordinary traits and replace them with the corresponding imagined traits, so the Observer path, even with a true god of Sequence 0, may still have up to two Sequence 1s."
Lei Kedun gave a detailed explanation of the Imaginer's peculiarity.
After hearing the description of the Imaginer, De Sitini couldn't help but exclaim:
"No wonder the Imaginary Dragon and the Nightmare Dragon coexisted historically; that's what it is!"
His tone then grew solemn as he warned Lei Kedun and Ke Lai En:
"Your earlier words let me glimpse a thread of fate; the Imaginary Dragon and Nightmare Dragon we discussed will intersect with your destinies."
Lei Kedun gave a slight nod, not particularly concerned, as his script of 0-08 had already arranged this.
Ke Lai En didn't grasp this knowledge well and wanted to ask further, but De Sitini said no more.
The information he received in those few minutes left Ke Lai En in a complete slump today, with no uplift at all.
Especially the information about the Fool, Ke Lai En wondered whether that gray mist corresponded to the so‑called uniqueness.
"If so, my recent experiences would make sense; I attract so many divination‑path phenomena because I possess the uniqueness of this path."
"That doesn't quite fit either; if it's uniqueness, why would the Hidden Sage invest in me? Shouldn't Charatu or Antigunus be more worthy of investment?"
"Or perhaps the Hidden Sage invested in everyone?"
Ke Lai En, at that thought, gave a strange look to Lei Kedun, who was still eating breakfast. He wanted to ask the other's view on the Fool, but the words changed to another topic:
"Do you know anything about the Pond family? Their titles stem from the Time of the Oath War."
"I don't know much of that history; I only know the Oath War was sparked by a conflict between the Knowledge Church and the Earth Church."
Lei Kedun shook his head, having never expected Ke Lai En to suddenly ask a historical question.
Ke Lai En gave Lei Kedun a meaning‑laden look; remembering even his own church's history so poorly, he was convinced the other's identity in the Knowledge Church was merely a cover.
Ke Lai En initially wanted to mock the guy as a turncoat, but recalling that he had joined his own Tarot Society, he held back the urge.
After a brief exchange, Ke Lai En took his leave.
As he left, Lei Kedun handed the amethyst ring from the iron box to Ke Lai En, asking him to find a time to petition the Fool.
"Your friend's fate is quite peculiar."
After Ke Lai En departed, De Sitini spoke:
"I just tried to glimpse his fate, but as soon as the thought surfaced in my mind I received a spiritual warning; directly peering at his fate would cause severe harm."
Lei Kedun looked at the misfortune mage with some puzzlement. He knew extraordinary followers of the Fate path could see things other paths' extraordinary ones could not, yet De Sitini kept his eyes tightly shut.
"Is there any difference between spying on another's fate with eyes closed versus open?"
Lei Kedun asked curiously.
"It doesn't make much difference to me."
De Sitini's words made Lei Kedun's gaze shift slightly; the old gentleman who had waited seventy years for a promotion opportunity was rather special!
De Sitini told Lei Kedun that he had rented the house next door and would stay there for the next month until his promotion was complete.
Later Lei Kedun asked him about some matters of the Life School and about his own opportunity for advancing to Sequence 4.
De Sitini simply said he already knew the answer, then rose and took his leave.
"Everyone seems so busy; it makes me look idle!"
Lei Kedun sighed as he looked at the empty restaurant.
He quickly finished breakfast, cleared the table, grabbed the coat hanging on the coat rack, and prepared to step out.
"Tu Ba Ge, let's go to Beckland's Harvest Chapel!"
He called out to Tu Ba Ge, who was napping on the sofa, and Lei Ke Dun opened the door and went out.
Because De Si Di Ni lived next door, Lei Ke Dun no longer directly used Spirit Realm teleportation as before and tried to disguise himself as more ordinary.
Taking Tu Ba Ge in a hired carriage, they arrived at Beckland's only Harvest Chapel; the chapel was very quiet, and apart from a priest praying at a desk in the front row, there was no one else.
Lei Ke Dun led Tu Ba Ge into the chapel, and the priest who had been praying at the desk noticed someone approaching, opened his eyes, and rose from his seat.
He was a very tall priest, over two meters in height, his brown cleric robe stretched tight on his body, and when he stood up he gave an overwhelming sense of oppression.
However, his demeanor was not dangerous; on the contrary, it was very gentle.
Lei Ke Dun took a few steps forward, bowed slightly in salute, and said:
"Hello, I am A Er·Tai En Si, a wandering scholar. A friend of the Earth Church told me that a priest named Wu Te La Fu Si Ji here needs help."
"I am Priest Wu Te La Fu Si Ji. May I ask which friend of the Earth Church you mentioned?"
The tall Priest Wu Te La Fu Si Ji said in an even tone.
"A blood clan member who joined the Earth Church told me in our correspondence that Archbishop Ai Xi·Mi Ya asked me, if I have time, to come to this Harvest Chapel. You may need some assistance."
While speaking, Lei Ke Dun took out the holy seal the Earth Church had given him.
Seeing the Earth Church's holy seal, Priest Wu Te La Fu Si Ji's expression softened considerably, and his gaze at Lei Ke Dun no longer carried wariness as he said:
"I indeed need some help."
"Because of past experiences, a personality that loves killing and craves battle has formed inside me. This personality constantly fights me for control of my body; if I cannot resolve it, I will inevitably lose control."
"I have found a miraculous item that can solve this problem, but it requires a powerful extraordinary being who can kill my other personality."
Priest Wu Te La Fu Si Ji kept watching Lei Ke Dun's reaction as he spoke; seeing no sign of trouble or difficulty, he continued to explain the effects of the miraculous item that could solve his problem.
After hearing Priest Wu Te La Fu Si Ji's explanation of the Nightmare Candle, Lei Ke Dun nodded slightly, adopted a thoughtful expression, and after a moment said:
"I need to make some preparations; I am not good at battles in dreams, so I must plant a psychological suggestion in advance to prevent the special dream environment from affecting me."
"No problem! I am not short of time."
