Chapter 164: Unexpected Divination Result

~9 min read 1,682 words

In the Fengshou Church of Da Qiao South District, the figures of Lei Kedun and Ke Lai'en quickly took shape.

Ai Mu Lin, who was wiping the candlestick, subconsciously stepped back, and after seeing the newcomers, muttered discontentedly:

"This is a church; are you going to recklessly use spirit‑world traversal here, coming and going?"

"Sorry, we'll be more careful next time," Ke Lai'en said, bowing gentlemanly and apologizing.

Lei Kedun glanced at Ai Mu Lin, who wore a gray‑white cleric robe, and clicked his tongue: Every blood clan, after overcoming inner resistance, can swiftly blend into the Earth Church!

Scanning the church, which held only the four of them—himself, Ke Lai'en and Ai Mu Lin—he spoke in an even tone:

"You come to Fengshou Church every day; how many people have you seen come here to pray?"

Ai Mu Lin was momentarily stunned, his eyebrows slightly furrowing.

Indeed, unless it's a special day, only a few people manage to come to the church to pray in a day, and true devout believers are even fewer.

Why should I worry about the spread of the Earth Church's faith? I'm not a follower of the Mother God.

Father Wu Te La Fu Si Ji, seated before the Life Holy Emblem with eyes closed in prayer, opened his eyes and said calmly:

"Because of the Night Church and the Storm Church, I lack the qualification to preach in Beikeland, so I must wait for believers to come on their own."

Ai Mu Lin made a disdainful expression and pursed his lips:

"Waiting in the church for believers to show up is no different from opening your wallet and waiting for gold coins to jump in."

"The ordinary folk here either worship the Night Goddess or the Lord of Storms."

Lei Kedun examined Ai Mu Lin from head to toe and saw no trace of implanted psychological suggestion.

Ai Mu Lin, unable to bear Lei Kedun's blunt gaze, stepped back two paces, watching Lei Kedun warily:

"What do you want?"

"Nothing, just curious—how did you adapt so quickly?"

Lei Kedun withdrew his gaze and said evenly.

"Adapt so quickly?" Ai Mu Lin looked bewildered.

"He is that unlucky vampire, the former master of the Universal Key; you can ask him."

Lei Kedun pointed at the bewildered Ai Mu Lin across from him and introduced him to Ke Lai'en.

"Damn, a blood clan!"

"I admit I'm unlucky; otherwise I wouldn't be in this state, forced to volunteer at the church every day."

Ai Mu Lin corrected Lei Kedun's wording and then sighed about his miserable situation.

Ke Lai'en, equally curious, examined the unlucky blood clan; as Ai Mu Lin's expression grew hair‑raising, he narrowed his gaze and said:

"Condolences, I want to ask you about the origin of the Universal Key."

Ai Mu Lin disdainfully tilted his head and said, "Why should I tell you?"

"Tsk! Looks like you prefer nightmare candles."

Lei Kedun said with a sigh, then walked toward Father Wu Te La Fu Si Ji seated before the Life Holy Emblem.

Ai Mu Lin's expression froze briefly, then he pretended to be casual and spoke:

"A little over a month ago, I went to a hospital in the South District to steal blood bottles to drink, and ran into a thief."

"He intended to enter the hospital's finance office, but got lost, opened the blood bank door, and I caught him on the spot."

Ke Lai'en glanced at the loquacious blood clan before him; after he finished describing how he obtained the Universal Key, Ke Lai'en couldn't help but ask:

"Did you ever think that the thief got lost because of that Universal Key?"

Ai Mu Lin's expression froze, then collapsed.

At the time he was only focused on stealing blood bottles, never really pondering the question, and later never kept it in mind, which led to his unlucky trespass into the church and being caught.

Ke Lai'en sighed inwardly; after learning the fate of the two previous owners of the Universal Key, he began to believe Lei Kedun's claim that using the Universal Key a few more times would let him breach the demon's murder scene.

"Did that thief say where he stole it from?"

Ai Mu Lin pursed his lips and said, "He said it was at No. 32 Wei Er Di Street in Da Qiao South District; I originally planned to investigate when I had time, but then—"

Having learned everything from Ai Mu Lin, Ke Lai'en nodded, then removed the yellow crystal pendant from his wrist and performed a divination.

No. 32 Wei Er Di Street in Da Qiao South District is dangerous.

After silently reciting three times, the yellow crystal pendant made a small clockwise rotation.

"Some danger?" Ke Lai'en analyzed possible sources of danger in his mind.

Ai Mu Lin stared unblinking at the scene; when Ke Lai'en's divination ended, he couldn't help but say:

"You can even divine! If only I could, I wouldn't have gotten lost to this cursed place."

No one present gave Ai Mu Lin any response; the unlucky blood clan had to swallow his frustration, grab another candlestick and scrub it vigorously, as if that candlestick were the image of Father Wu Te La Fu Si Ji.

After finishing his divination, Ke Lai'en turned his gaze to Lei Kedun, who sat with Father Wu Te La Fu Si Ji before the Life Holy Emblem, and said:

"I plan to go there tonight; will you come?"

"Sure." After a moment, realizing he had nothing else to do, Lei Kedun nodded in agreement to Ke Lai'en's invitation.

Ke Lai'en habitually took the yellow crystal pendant and performed another divination; this time the pendant spun counter‑clockwise in his hand, faster and with a larger amplitude.

Ke Lai'en looked at the pendant in his hand, then at Lei Kedun seated before the Life Holy Emblem, unsure which link had gone wrong.

"What does it mean? I'm the greatest danger? Or even without danger I would create danger?"

Lei Kedun also saw the counter‑clockwise spinning yellow crystal pendant in Ke Lai'en's hand, his brows slightly furrowing.

Ke Lai'en saw the puzzled expression on Lei Kedun's face, which didn't seem feigned, and after this period of contact the two had built solid trust.

"Are you still going?" Ke Lai'en squeezed the still‑spinning pendant back onto his wrist and decided to wait for a chance to perform another divination on the Gray Mist Above.

"Go, we must go; if nothing goes wrong I will smash that yellow crystal pendant!"

Originally indifferent to the matter, Lei Kedun now grew curious about the death of that Abraham Clan member.

Clearly, if Ke Lai'en goes it's only a bit risky, but if I go it becomes very risky.

Lei Kedun just can't understand what accident his past might trigger; he's not an extraordinary one of the sect's path.

To deal with the accidents and dangers that would appear at night, after saying goodbye to Father Wu Te La Fu Si Ji, Lei Kedun dragged Ke Lai En through the spirit realm and returned to No. 15 Thus line: Mingsike Jie.

"You prepare first; I'll go make a few scrolls and talismans to protect your life."

As soon as the words fell, Lei Kedun's figure stepped back into the spirit realm and vanished.

Ke Lai En stared at the spot where the figure disappeared, suppressing the slight twitch at the corner of his mouth:

"I always feel tonight's operation won't go smoothly; I hope it's just my illusion."

He said that, yet Ke Lai En sincerely made thorough preparations for himself and went up to the Gray Mist to perform another divination.

The divination result didn't change, but Ke Lai En divined the source of the danger and got that the danger is linked to Lei Kedun, though not originating from him.

"His enemy?" Ke Lai En muttered to himself, unable to pinpoint the key of the problem.

Mainly because he thinks, given Lei Kedun's temperament, if it were an enemy, he would have blown their ashes away on the spot.

Soon it was past eleven PM, and Lei Kedun arrived at Ke Lai En's house, bringing the crow Anu.

He handed a bunch of Sun Domain talismans and several scrolls to Ke Lai En:

"Use them as best you can for now; I rarely make talismans and scrolls these days, and I can't produce many at once."

Looking at the ten or so talismans and three scrolls in his hand, Ke Lai En felt as if he were clinging to a big thigh.

"It feels great to have a big boss watching over you!" Ke Lai En sighed inwardly.

His shoulder sank, and Ke Lai En saw the crow that had been with Lei Kedun land on his own shoulder:

"Why didn't you bring Tu Ba Ge?"

"The rabbit is too cowardly, and the crow can fly; when trouble arises you don't need to worry about it, it can take care of itself."

Lei Kedun gave a brief explanation.

Then he walked to Ke Lai En's side and placed his left hand on the other side of Ke Lai En's shoulder.

The surrounding scene quickly turned into stacked blocks of color, then retreated like an oil painting; after a moment, they arrived at the spirit realm area corresponding to Weirdi Street in the South District of the Great Bridge.

Out of caution regarding Ke Lai En's divination, Lei Kedun did not choose to enter House No. 32 directly, but manifested on the street of Weirdi Street.

In a shadowed area where a gas streetlamp's light couldn't reach, the silhouettes of Lei Kedun, Ke Lai En, and the crow perched on his shoulder quickly took shape.

Emerging from the shadows, the deep‑night street was desolate, with almost no pedestrians, only occasional carriages passing in the distance.

A faint, barely noticeable violet halo flickered across Lei Kedun's eye hidden behind a lens as he continuously scanned the surroundings.

Aside from their own objective, outside House No. 32, Lei Kedun observed no abnormalities.
