Chapter 165: The Witch in the Mirror
After looking around, Klein walked to the front door of building number 32, took out the universal key from his pocket, and easily opened the door.
"I don't know what danger I divined."
Klein whispered softly, then stepped into the house.
Leyton, who had been vigilantly watching the surroundings, heard that, glanced at the evil spirit on the second floor of the house, and casually said:
The danger you divined earlier probably refers to the evil spirit in this room, but I don't know what the divination result changed because of me.
"Evil spirit?" Klein turned his head to look at Leyton, then took the universal key more carefully, preparing to phase through the wall, while his other hand reached into his coat pocket and gripped a talisman.
Having observed no danger from the surroundings, Leyton prepared to directly eliminate that evil spirit, check the situation, then leave.
Leyton's figure instantly turned transparent, as if becoming a statue formed from countless gathered starlight. The statue shattered instantly, and brilliant starlight specks surged, passing through the walls and floor to reach where the evil spirit was.
Fragments of starlight reconverged inside, and Leyton's figure emerged from the brilliant starlight.
"Sun!" he softly intoned a phrase in Ancient Hermetic; the blue-white fluorescence in his eyes grew stronger, and a sacred light aura appeared on his body.
Instantly, illusory golden flames ignited out of thin air around him, these flames exuding the mighty, pervasive aura of the sun.
The evil spirit hiding here had just appeared when its body, under the scorching of the holy fire, melted like a candle into droplets; before it could fully manifest, it vanished with a silent scream.
Klein opened a "door" in the wall with the universal key, passed through, and saw the scene where the holy fire had scorched the surroundings clean.
After a moment's pause, Klein pointed at himself and said:
"You burned it so clean, how am I supposed to conduct a séance?"
Leyton's motion paused, then he waved his hand and said:
"It's fine, you can divine this house?"
"This is nipping danger in the bud; what if the danger you divined points to this evil spirit?"
Klein shook his head slightly; he didn't really believe that the evil spirit easily burned by Leyton would be the danger indicated by his second divination.
"Huh?" Leyton let out a soft exclamation, then walked a few steps toward the giant mirror that took up half the wall in the adjacent washroom.
"What's wrong?" Klein asked doubtfully.
He also followed behind Leyton, approaching the washroom.
"There's something inside the mirror."
Leyton replied.
He took off his glasses and handed them to Klein behind him. Leyton's eyes instantly burst forth with a rich pale purple halo.
In the washroom, the giant mirror occupying half the wall, in Leyton's view, turned into a dim, illusory, not-quite-real path.
It connected with many similar things in the surrounding area, forming a complex and mysterious "spiderweb", weaving together a profound and strange mirror world unlike reality.
After passing several dim, illusory, not-quite-real paths, Leyton saw a lady strolling.
She had a long, fair neck, small delicate ears, wore a plain white long robe, and her hair was loosely tied up.
Pure, dignified, unstained by dust, her bright, radiant visage was striking; this was Leyton's first impression of her.
She seemed to also sense Leyton's gaze through the mirror, slowly turning her head; her gaze penetrated the barrier of the mirror world and fell upon Leyton.
"Gulp~" Leyton swallowed, and certain desires in his heart rose.
Klein watched the mirror of the washroom, observing the somewhat dazed Leyton, and asked warily:
"What happened?"
Because Leyton stood at the doorway, not overly intruding, his body happened to block Klein's line of sight, so Klein neither saw the person in the mirror nor was seen by her.
Klein felt a bad premonition; the hand holding the talisman in his coat pocket switched to another one, preparing to use a purification talisman.
Klein's words brought Leyton back from his silently bewitched reverie, and he immediately said:
"You go first, the faster the better!"
Azure radiance suffused his eyes; Leyton prepared to use a rational state to counter the mirror-world witch's charm.
"Huh? There's also a cute little boy; won't you come out and let big sister have a look?"
A mature woman's voice seemed to sound right before them, its restrained and languid blend giving an indescribable charm.
It made Klein instinctively want to push Leyton aside and enter the washroom.
Klein's body was blocked by Leyton's left hand; a chill spread from that hand over, and Klein instantly came to his senses.
He lowered his head to see a faint layer of white frost appearing on his coat at the shoulder, and whispered:
"Thank you"
After saying that, he immediately turned around, took hold of the universal key, pressed his hand against a wall, and without time to divine, walked straight in.
That lady hidden in the mirror, with just a sentence, almost charmed me; I stayed behind only to drag Leyton down.
Klein continuously phased through walls with the universal key, steadily distancing himself from that house.
The sense of danger in his heart having faded, Klein prepared to open another "door" then pause and wait a moment for Leyton.
After passing through another "door", Klein saw a woman in a plain white long robe, hair loosely tied up, with a languid, sensual aura.
Her beauty was flawless, and she was playfully looking at Klein, who had slumpedly opened the door and barged in.
"So you couldn't wait to come find me? I'm really happy!"
Her tone perfectly blended excitement, delight, shyness, and surprise.
Klein even felt that uttering any word of refusal would be a desecration of her.
His own spiritual frenzy's warning let Klein maintain his thoughts, preventing him from being charmed in that instant.
"Gulp~ gulp~" continually swallowing saliva, Klein stepped back a few steps, then stopped.
It wasn't that Klein didn't want to flee; rather, his body was refusing, creating a rift between his body and his consciousness.
Brilliant starlight surged from all directions, one wave after another descending upon Klein and the woman opposite him.
Most of the starlight instantly condensed, forming a huge transparent amber that enveloped the radiant, bewitching witch, confining her to her original spot.
The remaining starlight showered with radiance, washing away the abnormality on Klein.
"Sun!" a low, deep voice sounded in Klein and the witch's ears.
Leyton's expression eased; this was Leyton's voice, and the other party had deliberately lowered their voice a bit.
The next moment, a magnificent, pure blazing pillar of light descended from the sky, enveloping the entire room, and the roof of this building was completely flung away in that instant.
The terrifying heat and the power of the Sun domain surged forth instantly.
Klein tightly gripped the universal key, then lunged backward; as his palm touched the door behind him, the door was directly pushed open.
Klein stumbled onto the street, and the crow Anu flew out from somewhere, landing on his shoulder.
"Run, towards the bridge! The people of the Storm Church are coming!"
The crow Anu said on Klein's shoulder.
Klein nodded slightly, relying on the magician's excellent bodily control and intuition, Klein darted swiftly through the shadows.
As for the universal key, Klein had a psychological shadow about this magical item that had brought him toward the enemy while he was fleeing.
"When we get back, I'll throw it onto the gray fog; it's still suitable to stay quietly in the junk pile."
Klein sighed inwardly and quickened his pace.
That holy light just now had already awakened the people sleeping nearby, and the strong solar aura would soon be dealt with by the Night Watch and the Punishers who came rushing; the followers of the Sun in Becklund are no different from cultists.
"What a dazzling light, how do you know I like you this dazzling, sunny little boy?"
A beautiful figure walked out from the neighboring house; the witch Klein had just encountered was merely a mirror illusion.
In response to the witch came strands of crystal-clear flowing light, and the house that had just been baptized by the holy light was again suffused with a layer of frost.
The frost surged forward with even greater ferocity toward Leyton, who was hidden in the shadows.
"Playing with frost, the witch is truly an expert!"
Even the other party's disdainful words and voice carried an indescribable allure.
Wanting to dodge backward, Leyton discovered his body was somewhat numb and sluggish.
"Cough!" He suddenly coughed, feeling a burning sensation in his lungs.
Leyton, through the frost created by his spell, surrounded himself as the caster, and ice crystals shot up from the ground, walls, and every surrounding place.
At the moment the ice crystals touched Leyton, his body shattered with a boom, turning into specks of brilliant starlight that surged in all directions and quickly vanished within the room.
"Nowadays, this little boy is really impolite, running off without even saying hello."
The witch in a plain white robe spoke lazily, then turned and prepared to leave.
In a place covered with a layer of ice crystals, an inconspicuous piece of parchment suddenly ignited on its own.
"Huh?" The lazy witch paused her steps, then quickly walked toward a mirror, her figure disappearing into it.
The dazzling firelight exploded violently, white-hot, orange-red, and pale blue flames intertwining like a bomb mixed with oil paint.
"Boom!"
A tremendous explosion sound rang out, the firelight instantly engulfing several nearby houses, the scorching airflow sweeping debris as it danced in the air, and the firelight began to spread outward.
This place seemed to have undergone a terrifying explosion, the glass of the surrounding houses all shattered.
But soon a gust of wind swept down with rain, extinguishing the flames that had not yet spread.
