Chapter 207: Undead Chef
Kelaien fell silent for a moment, then said in an unusually heavy tone:
"So, solving the Abraham family's curse would mean that Mr. Men has completely fallen?"
"Do you want to try to fetch Him? To pull an angel under your command."
Leikdun smiled slightly, his gaze fixed on Kelaien.
Kelaien forced a wry smile and said:
"Mr. Men is a being just one step away from becoming a god; what could I use to fetch Him?"
"Besides, as an angel on an adjacent path, we should be adversaries, right?"
"I actually want to give it a try, the inspiration I got from the True Creator last time."
Leikdun raised his left hand, speaking seriously.
Kelaien raised an eyebrow at Leikdun, took a sip of red tea, and organized his thoughts internally:
"You seem to have a strong liking for Mr. Men?"
"One could say it's hard not to feel admiration for Mr. Men, and the apocalypse is near, so any high‑end combat power is extremely valuable."
Leikdun said with a sigh.
Kelaien lowered his head slightly, brought the tea to his lips; his curiosity made him want to ask more about the apocalypse, but he could only soothe it by drinking tea.
"Would you like to stay for dinner?"
Leikdun raised his hand and pointed toward the kitchen.
There, the cookware and ingredients floated in midair, chopping, heating, and being tossed into the pot—each step smooth and natural.
Kelaien restrained the twitch of his mouth and, driven by curiosity, silently activated his spiritual sight.
Then he saw a stout undead and several nature spirits working together skillfully in the kitchen.
Taking a deep breath, Kelaien half‑jokingly said:
"You've moved from squeezing small animals to squeezing undead?"
Leikdun proudly praised his new chef:
"This is a rare find—a undead who hasn't forgotten his former professional skills; his cooking is quite good, definitely worth a try."
"Even after becoming an undead, he still remembers how to cook?" Kelaien thought a cooking undead was somewhat absurd.
Leikdun smiled, pointed to his own eyes and said:
"As long as the chef's instinct remains, the rest can just be fed knowledge directly."
"An undead chef is indeed intriguing," Kelaien, curious about a meal made by an undead, nodded lightly and accepted the dinner invitation.
Sitting at the table, Leikdun began a casual chat with Kelaien.
Leikdun, hoping to learn about the inventor who created the bicycle, Leipad, through Kelaien, deliberately raised the topic:
"Do you know anyone especially talented or gifted in mechanics?"
Kelaien was momentarily stunned; the first person who came to mind was his sister Mei Li Sha Mo Lei Di, who has always loved tinkering with machines—she even repaired his old pocket watch.
Kelaien tentatively asked, "What do you want to do?"
Leikdun raised a puzzled eyebrow. He's just an inventor—why does Kelaien look off?
After a brief pause, he chuckled and said:
"I want to cultivate some exceptional individuals on the Generalist path, mainly to make them inventors, advance society, and also give me part‑time craftsmen."
"Advancing society?"
Kelaien repeated the line; an exceptional being mingling among evil gods and even listed on a sea bounty, saying that always felt off to him.
Leikdun explained the fundamental reason he wanted to cultivate Generalist‑path exceptionalists:
"Promoting civilization, spreading knowledge—that's my mission, and what I want to do."
"Luosai Er's Industrial Revolution only got halfway; the rest stalled due to lack of energy, and I want to keep it going."
"I see, so do you have a solution to the energy problem?"
Kelaien asked curiously, noting that further advancing the Industrial Revolution would benefit the vast majority of people in this era.
Leikdun leaned lazily against the chair back, saying helplessly:
"No, even if I wanted to, the Storm Church and the Eternal Blazing Sun Church wouldn't agree."
"But the future is uncertain; perhaps someday the Sun and Storm's authority will be reclaimed by the True Creator."
"Your idea is good," Kelaien said comfortingly, then steered the conversation back to mechanically gifted people:
"I know an inventor named Leipad, who's trying to invent a bicycle; I even invested in his research."
"If you're interested, I can introduce you to him."
"Is that so? Then I can fund him; it's a guaranteed profit, and later I can give him a Generalist elixir. As an inventor, he can't resist the lure of becoming a Generalist."
Leikdun's eyes lit up naturally, and he said cheerfully:
Kelaien didn't react much, but was very curious about Leikdun's latter remark:
"What's special about Generalists? Why can't an inventor resist becoming one?"
Leikdun straightened, raised his hand slightly, and, in a lecturing pose, said:
"The inspiration boost on this path is quite limited; they rarely hear sounds they shouldn't, or see images they shouldn't, so as long as they don't act recklessly, the chance of losing control is low."
"The Generalist elixir only enhances memory, comprehension, learning and practical ability, gives a rough grasp of the occult, and makes them more proficient with aqua regia, nitroglycerin, and complex gear mechanisms."
"Its core ability is to awaken memory, allowing one to recall all knowledge they've ever seen; anything seen will never be forgotten."
Kelaien nodded slightly; this wasn't far from what he learned from Luosai Er's diary, only more detailed.
"So, you want your sister Mei Li Sha Mo Lei Di to become an exceptional?"
Leikdun stared at Kelaien and asked the question he had wanted to ask earlier.
The scene fell silent for a moment; Kelaien looked conflicted at Leikdun and said:
"Is that the purpose of you suddenly bringing up this topic?"
"Not at all." Lei Kedun waved his hands repeatedly, explaining:
"You were dazed for too long just now, which made me think of your mechanically gifted sister."
"This path matches her preferences and carries little risk of losing control; the only problem is that they're really weak at the start."
Ke Lai En stared intently at Lei Kedun, trying to confirm whether the words were true.
After wrestling with it for a while, Ke Lai En decided to return and perform a divination on Above the Gray Mist before answering.
Clang! A gold coin shot out in front of Ke Lai En, and he instinctively reached out to catch it.
"Well, at times like this, diviners usually opt for a fate‑reading!"
Lei Kedun tossed a gold coin and, in a dramatically adolescent tone, said something.
Ke Lai En felt a black line over his head, restrained the urge to smash the coin into the other's face, and gently nodded, saying:
"I'll consider it."
"If the topic hadn't just mentioned the apocalypse, I'd rather hope they could live out this life happily and peacefully as ordinary people."
"Actually, on the sequential path, as long as one doesn't aim higher, one can become an elite in a certain profession and live out this life with a better standard of living."
Lei Kedun offered his own different interpretation.
Ke Lai En tilted his head slightly, looked out the window, and said in a flat, helpless tone:
"Once one becomes extraordinary, under the influence of one's traits, the probability of encountering various extraordinary events, whether actively or passively, will increase dramatically."
"Isn't there also you?"
"And don't forget, what is the mortality rate for ordinary people when encountering extraordinary events, and what is it for extraordinary ones?"
Lei Kedun retorted.
The two fell silent again, until the ghost chef in the kitchen brought out the prepared dishes, one by one, their fragrant aromas filling the air.
Silver City.
Dai Li Ke had just handed the time‑worm that A Meng used to parasitize him over to the Chief, and warned him that members of the exploration team were likely already contaminated by the True Creator.
Back home, Dai Li Ke sat at an old wooden table, pondering whether he should do something to make those exploration team members contaminated by the True Creator voluntarily reveal their peculiarities.
"Only by proving that everything I say is true will the Chief have greater confidence in me."
Still without a plan, Dai Li Ke suddenly heard a thump! thump! thump! at the door.
"Who?" he asked, a little bewildered and puzzled.
A voice from outside, tinged with amusement, called out:
"I, Da Ke, the exploration team has been released from quarantine; aren't you eager to hear about our experience?"
Da Ke? In Dai Li Ke's mind, the other's former image flashed, and he recalled how he looked the last time they met.
Dai Li Ke suddenly shivered, a chill rushing up his scalp.
"Why is he coming to see me? He just got released from quarantine; shouldn't he go home first?"
In an instant, many doubts swirled in Dai Li Ke's mind.
Huh! Dai Li Ke turned his head toward the window, trying to calm his nerves.
At this moment, the frequency of lightning outside had dropped to its lowest; only once every one or two minutes did a bolt slash across the sky, illuminating the air, while the rest of the time Silver City lay in deep darkness.
However, as a Prayer‑Light person, Dai Li Ke naturally possessed a light attribute, so even when occasionally in darkness within Silver City, he faced little danger.
Thus, when he was alone, he had no habit of lighting a candle.
Dai Li Ke took a candle from a wooden box, rubbed his fingers lightly, producing a golden‑yellow flame, and lit the candle.
The room instantly filled with a dim yellow glow, accompanied by a faint, pungent scent.
Thump! Thump! Thump! The main door was knocked again by Da Ke.
He wasn't like this before; he was very polite. A strong wave of sorrow surged within Dai Li Ke.
Placing the lit candle in the center of the table, Dai Li Ke took a deep breath, bristling with caution, and opened the door.
