Chapter 213: Life Is Precious, Harvest Is Joyful!

~9 min read 1,724 words

After the gathering convened by Mr. A ended, Foersi absentmindedly stayed by Xiu and Viscount Ge Laienti's side; she had never found a gathering of the Extraordinary to be so agonizing.

At the time she even wondered whether a slight oversight might expose her as one of the people Mr. A was looking for.

I shouldn't be exposed, definitely not; I've never revealed anything related, except to Mr. Lawrence, where I mentioned that I was protected by a great being during my full‑moon mutterings. Mr. Lawrence is a member of the Abraham family, has no connection with the Aurora Society, and should be a trustworthy gentleman.

Why does the Aurora Society suddenly seek the followers and believers of Mr. Fool? Is this the tug‑and‑entanglement between the being the Aurora Society worships and Mr. Fool?

Foersi, still out of sorts, returned to the house she rents with Xiu, waited until night, and finally had a moment alone to pray to Mr. Fool about today's events.

Klein, perched above the gray mist, was startled by Foersi's prayer, and for a moment considered reporting Mr. A to the church for the illegal gathering he convened!

After some thought, he sadly realized that the Fool has no believers or followers at all; at most he could count himself, and that's just one.

Thinking this, Klein couldn't help but chuckle at himself:

"Both the deity and its believers are manageable for a single me,"

After pondering the Aurora Society's issue, he thought the problem likely lay with Little Sun; he confessed the Tarot Society matter to the chief of Silver City, perhaps letting Elder Shepherd Lo Weiya learn of it and pass the information to the True Creator.

That doesn't add up either; Al carries a parasitic mass of flesh infused with the True Creator's divinity and will. It should have detected the Fool long ago, yet it has shown no sign; I was about to overlook this. Was it blocked by Al? Or perhaps it has lost contact with the True Creator's original form?

In the end he simply gave Miss Magician a "no need to worry" reply.

After Foersi's slight surprise, "no need to worry" seemed perfectly appropriate:

In the eyes of a great being, the Aurora Society is not an organization worth caring about.

After a brief silence, Foersi once again whispered the Fool's honored name and, curious, asked:

"Esteemed Mr. Fool, which being does the Aurora Society worship?"

Immediately, she saw Mr. Fool seated above the gray mist, speaking leisurely:

"True Creator."

True Creator. Foersi's eyes widened; she understood why Mr. A suddenly sought the Fool's believers.

That young man from Silver City relayed some information to their chief, and among Silver City's elders there is a shepherd who serves as a conduit under the True Creator's control.

The next morning, in the Harvest Church of the South District of Great Bridge.

"You're really here early in the morning to work!"

Rekton sighed toward Emrin, whose expression was numb and movements deft as he polished the candlesticks and table.

"Are you here to mock me!" Emrin glared, then, like a deflated balloon, muttered:

"I don't want to either, but whenever I think of the candlesticks unpolished and the table untidy in the church, I feel awful and wish I could sprint over instantly."

Emrin, overly familiar, stepped forward to chat and, taking advantage of the moment, set the rag in his hand aside.

It was clear he didn't want to work at all, but his body was honest.

Rekton raised an eyebrow at the opportunistically lazy Emrin, turned, and sat down on a nearby chair, saying:

"I have a commission; are you interested?"

"No!" Emrin refused without a second thought.

Emrin's instant refusal was somewhat unexpected for Rekton, who then asked back in puzzlement:

"You, aren't you short of money?"

Emrin looked slightly stunned, then sneered:

"Do not insult the noble bloodline with money!"

"Is that so?" Rekton tilted his head,

"As far as I know, the exquisitely crafted dolls you collect aren't cheap; they're even quite expensive, especially the life‑size ones."

"..." Emrin opened his mouth, then fell silent again.

After a moment of silence, he cleared his throat lightly and, feigning indifference, said:

"Fine~ you're right, what do you want me to help with?"

"There is an old gentleman who suffered serious injuries, has recently been hit repeatedly, is somewhat despondent, and with his old wounds he could die at any moment."

"I hope you can straighten out his body, at least let him live a few more years."

"How old is he?" Emrin asked, puzzled.

"Probably around eighty," Rekton replied, not very certain.

Emrin paused briefly, then said flatly:

"I suggest you buy him a plot of graveyard."

Rekton stared calmly at him for a few seconds, and before Emrin could flare up, said:

"If you can manage it, I can help you find the extraordinary trait of Professor of Magic Elixir, which corresponds to your blood noble!"

"Of course I know that!"

Emrin tilted his head slightly, said disdainfully, then snapped back, his gaze burning at Rekton:

"Can you find the extraordinary trait that matches the blood noble?"

"You aren't planning to go after the bloodline, are you?"

Rekton gave a disdainful glance and said:

"No, even if I can't find it, I can still request a copy from the Earth Church."

"Fine, but even if I can't fully cure the old gentleman you mentioned, you will still need to pay a certain fee."

"I can only treat his physical injuries; for the will to live, a spiritual issue, you must find a psychologist."

Emrin added a clause very cautiously.

"No problem!" Rekton gladly agreed.

Having struck a deal, Emrin's mood improved a bit, and then, with some hesitation and anticipation, looked at Rekton and asked:

"Do you know how to lift a psychological suggestion?"

"Find a psychologist, or a corresponding magical item."

Lei Kedun's eyes were blunt as he drifted over the candle burning in Father Wu Telafu Si Ji's church and spoke.

Ai Mulin's mouth twitched, and his expression collapsed.

"I tried, lost, my father and mother, and was almost captured; that mind‑dread candle is extremely sinister."

"Do you know of any other magical items with similar effects?"

"The Psychological Alchemy Society, if you can find them and believe in them. However, in a big city like Beckland, your blood clan must have a count or two, right?"

Lei Kedun deliberately asked.

Ai Mulin's expression was numb; he forced out a smile uglier than crying and said:

"Psychological Alchemy Society? I've never heard of it. It would be better to wait for the great figures of the blood clan to devise a way to lift psychological suggestion."

"Although… although I wait for them to figure it out, I am already a devout follower of the Earth Mother Goddess. I now feel life is increasingly precious, and a bountiful harvest is delightful!"

Lei Kedun nodded slightly, then said sincerely:

"What's wrong with believing in the Earth Mother Goddess? Many members of your blood clan worship her. Moreover, Emperor Luo Sai Er once said: Since you cannot resist, you might as well enjoy it."

Ai Mulin's expression froze for a moment, as if pondering whether Emperor Luo Sai Er truly said that.

He then thought seriously and said:

"Do you know how to contact that organization? The Psychological Alchemy Society you mentioned."

I thought you just ignored that organization you hadn't even heard of…

He muttered to himself, then shook his head and said:

"I don't know; I have no connection with that organization."

Ai Mulin gave Lei Kedun a disdainful glance, waved his hand at him, and kept muttering:

"I'm free in the evenings; if I stay away too long at other times, I can't help but want to return to pray and clean the candlestick. Damn it."

St. George District, Sachi Street.

After striking a deal with Ai Mulin, Lei Kedun returned to Mingsike Jie, found Ke Lai En and the lawyer Yu Ergen invited by Ke Lai En, and together went to the home of inventor Lei Pade.

Lei Pade's house was somewhat messy; he simply poured each person a cup of ordinary black tea, fully showing his unsociable side.

Ke Lai En lightly took a sip of red tea, then, getting straight to the point, said:

"Hello, Mr. Lei Pade, this is my friend; he heard about your invention and decided to invest a sum."

"Investment?" Upon hearing the word, Lei Pade's eyes lit up as if he had found a kindred spirit, and he eagerly said:

"How much do you intend to invest?"

Lei Kedun calculated in his mind the funds he could mobilize and smiled lightly, saying:

"The first investment is 3,000 pounds; if you have other inventions or creative ideas later, I will add more investment according to the situation."

While speaking, Lei Kedun's gaze naturally swept over every detail of the house and Lei Pade's attire and mannerisms.

He quickly sketched a rough character model in his mind and began a rational analysis.

The personality is somewhat stubborn and simple, unsociable, wholly devoted to research; he could become a subordinate, and, being a bit older for the Generalist path, his ceiling is likely a mechanical expert. However, if he aligns well with that path, becoming an alchemist is not impossible.

After a calm internal analysis, Lei Kedun turned his gaze to the lawyer Yu Ergen beside him:

【93】 "Lawyer Yu Ergen, please draft a contract."

Ke Lai En took a sip of the tea, then got straight to the point and said:

He then shifted his gaze back to Lei Pade:

"I am looking for one or two people who love machinery and have some connections in Beckland to invest; they are indispensable for promoting a product."

"Alright, no problem; I am ready at any time."

Lei Pade answered quickly, his smile never fading.

Ke Lai En looked at Lei Kedun with a puzzled gaze; 3,000 pounds is already a sizable investment—was it to win over an inventor or to profit from investment?

Lawyer Yu Ergen promptly drafted the contract; after Lei Kedun signed his name, he handed the contract to Lei Pade and said:

"Remember to give me your bank account; I will transfer the funds within these days."
