Chapter 215: Digesting Demonic Elixir
Leiketon and Ke Lai En, together with two animals, gathered in a semicircle by the fireplace.
In the middle of the fireplace sat the undead chef under the Crow, dutifully grilling skewer after skewer on a barbecue rack formed from brilliant starlight.
Ke Lai En ate the barbecue while mumbling indistinctly:
"Why do the undead in this world still barbecue? And why is it Earth flavor!"
"I taught it," Leiketon said proudly.
He then changed the subject:
"Do you know anyone at the Clag Club who loves machinery and preferably works in that line of business?"
"I want to find one or two such people to invest in Leipad, and also better promote the bicycle Leipad invented."
"No problem, I'd do it even if you hadn't asked; I get a share of the profit from every bicycle sold."
Ke Lai En raised an eyebrow slightly, excited at the thought of a steady flow of money into his account.
His smile faded quickly; Ke Lai En's expression grew serious, and his voice unconsciously deepened as he said:
"The Aurora Society is seeking the followers and believers of the Fool."
"I know," Leiketon nodded lightly.
"It must be the message from Elder Luo Weiya of Silver City; the True Creator has only just delivered this decree to the Aurora Society."
"How do you know it so clearly?"
"I was at a gathering point of the Aurora Society at the time."
After Leiketon finished speaking, Ke Lai En fell silent again.
The Aurora Society, the Tarot Society, the Church of Knowledge—does he really think that, even while being a pirate at sea, he won't someday be overturned and chased by a bunch of big shots?
"December already," Leiketon sighed softly.
Ke La En looked at him puzzled, curious about what December meant.
"The peace in Beikeland won't last long. I must finish digesting the last bit of the Secret Art Master's demonic elixir within these two weeks."
Ke Lai En frowned slightly, asking incompletely:
"Why?"
"Is it related to the ascension ceremony?"
"There is some connection," Leiketon said, shaking his head slightly, offering no further explanation.
After finishing the barbecue and chatting with Ke Lai En for a while, Leiketon stood up to take his leave; he must finish digesting the remaining demonic elixir within two weeks, letting the Hidden Sage immerse him in the sea of knowledge.
Two weeks had passed since the last time he ate barbecue with Ke Lai En by the fireplace.
During these two weeks, Leiketon devoted himself to studying secret arts, trying to digest the last of the Secret Art Master's elixir, only leaving the house when delivering a potion to Lawrence.
"Phew—finally succeeded!"
Leiketon leaned against the study chair, feeling the complete digestion of the elixir inside him, a brilliant smile spreading across his face.
As the Secret Art Master's elixir fully digested, Leiketon felt his perception become markedly clearer.
It seemed that any trace of existence and any change's trajectory would be seen by him.
Just by casually glancing upward, his gaze sweeping over a book, its detailed information instantly surfaced in his mind.
Staring a bit longer, he could even discern the paper's material, craftsmanship, and the time it was made.
He could also mentally simulate the book's production process from raw material to paper to finished volume.
"Compared to just after taking the elixir for ascension, it's more than twice as strong."
"This kind of sight and analytical ability is like a pre‑version of 'Insight'!"
"Since the reasoning apprentice stage of Sequence Eight, it has begun to manifest, and it continues to undergo qualitative changes with each promotion; no wonder Mr. Huang says 'Insight' is one of the core abilities of this path."
Feeling the internal changes, Leiketon murmured a few words to himself.
In two weeks, everything continued to develop on its own.
Ke Lai En had already found the third investor for the bicycle and signed a contract with them.
Lawrence's body had also improved considerably under the potion concocted by Emmlin.
At the last Tarot Society meeting, Foersi had successfully ascended to Trickster Master, and the Hanged Man A'erjie had also risen to Wind Attendant.
Miss Ao Dai Li had also received approval from the Psychological Alchemy Society and was about to join this secret organization.
Xiao Taiyang was also diligently digesting demonic elixir in Silver City, accumulating merits, preparing to exchange for the Sun Priest's elixir formula at the next Tarot Society.
After recalling the events of the past two weeks at the Tarot Society and confirming nothing was left undone, Leiketon finally rose from his chair.
He stretched his numb limbs from prolonged sitting, then stepped into the spirit realm.
West District, inside the Carpenza Inn.
Leiketon's figure quickly took shape.
Leiketon also saw Foersi, now a Trickster Master, sitting face‑to‑face with Lawrence at a coffee table, discussing something.
Leiketon's arrival made the atmosphere between them a bit tense.
"Good afternoon, Mr. Tai En Si~"
Foersi stood up and greeted.
"Good afternoon, Miss Foersi, you don't need to address me so formally; I'm still a bit unaccustomed to it."
Leiketon politely nodded in response.
He then dragged a chair over from the side and sat at the opposite side of the coffee table.
When Leiketon sat down, Lawrence finally smiled and said:
"Good afternoon, Mr. Tai En Si, do you prefer coffee or tea?"
"Coffee, please. Thank you."
Lawrence smiled, nodded, and rose from his seat.
Lei Kedun and Foersi fell silent opposite each other for a while, but Lei Kedun finally broke the silence:
"How do you plan to digest the Trick Master's magic poison? Go work for a circus?"
"Circus?" Foersi was momentarily stunned, then caught on, her eyes brightening as she thought it was a very good idea.
"Sounds pretty good. I should go back and try it. Do you have any suggestions?"
Suggestion? Learn from Ke Lai En, and let the Night Watcher, Punishment Substitute, and Mechanical Heart of Beikeland become your audience.
Lei Kedun muttered it to himself in his mind, then said evenly:
"Perform in front of the extraordinary ones and fool them."
"Ugh," Foersi could not find a rebuttal.
It works well, but that doesn't say whether I can actually fool the extraordinary ones; even if I succeed, how do we handle the aftermath? The Trick Master's tricks have virtually no real combat capability.
"Making the extraordinary ones the target of your performance does indeed yield more feedback, but it is also quite dangerous."
Lao Lunsi placed a cup of coffee in front of Lei Kedun and said in passing.
Foersi nodded repeatedly in agreement with Lao Lunsi's words:
"That's right, I think going to the circus to perform is more practical."
"Mr. Tai En Si, you seem to know the Trick Master well, even the performance focus of 'perform' and 'fool' you are aware of."
Lao Lunsi's gaze was solemn and serious as he looked at Lei Kedun and said:
"I have a friend who is now a magician; as adjacent paths, the meanings of these two names are similar in some respects."
Lei Kedun chuckled and tossed the pot to Ke Lai En.
"Adjacent paths?" Foersi asked curiously.
Lao Lunsi was the first to speak and explain to Foersi:
"There are two paths adjacent to the Apprentice path: the Diviner and the Thief."
"A magician belongs to Sequence Seven of the Diviner path, and the Sequence Eight Con Artist of the Thief path; the role rules of these two sequences are similar to those of the Trick Master."
"I see," Foersi nodded lightly.
She then turned to Lei Kedun, curiosity evident, and asked:
"Your friend, does he digest the magic poison by performing before the extraordinary ones and successfully fooling them?"
Lei Kedun nodded slightly: "You should have seen him in the newspapers—Black Emperor!"
Foersi slightly opened her lips but said nothing.
The Black Emperor, who killed Kapin and rescued those innocent girls, the Black Emperor suspected to be related to Mr. Fool, took a bunch of extraordinary ones—including many official forces—as his audience!
Foersi silently reflected in her heart; regarding this style of roleplay, she could only feel envy and say nothing else.
She thought for a moment: if she followed this roleplay, the chance of being caught by a Chavas meter at home would be ten percent, and the chance of being captured mid‑performance by her chosen audience would be ninety percent.
She quickly shook her head, brushed the thoughts from her mind, and then said seriously with a straight face:
"I can't learn this method; the circus suits me better."
"Indeed, that Black Emperor must possess sufficiently powerful magical items, or have assistance, and be skilled in combat; otherwise he couldn't achieve such a level of roleplay."
"Having ordinary people as the audience yields far less feedback, but it is safer."
Lao Lunsi nodded lightly, his face approving as he continued:
Lei Kedun's gaze drifted between Foersi and Lao Lunsi, then he chuckled:
"Mr. Lao Lunsi, are you planning to train a non‑family member as an apprentice?"
Unexpectedly, Lao Lunsi did not stay silent or hesitate; he smiled and nodded:
"Ms. Foersi's character is worthy of my trust, and she has performed excellently enough, hasn't she?"
Foersi's expression softened, as if to say something, but Lao Lunsi showed no intention of stopping his speech.
"You have received An Li Sa's approval; if she were still alive, she would probably guide you personally on the path of the extraordinary ones."
"However, I do not intend to teach you personally; you know my health condition—though it has eased, I am already too old, and perhaps one day I will suddenly pass away."
Lao Lunsi's gaze shifted to Foersi as he continued:
"I intend to introduce you to a teacher; with my recommendation and your own character, I think he will agree. Of course, I am also happy to guide you on some occult questions."
Foersi took a deep breath, her eyes slightly sore; apart from her friend Xiu, she rarely felt such sincere concern from others.
"Thank you, Mr. Lao Lunsi~"
"It is mutual assistance; cultivating a high‑sequence extraordinary one without malice benefits us as well."
Seeing the familiar, eager atmosphere between the two, Lei Kedun laughed playfully and joked:
"I seem a bit redundant here."
