Chapter 243: Fate Angel

~9 min read 1,661 words

Exploration continues.

Colin said to the remaining team members, then turned his head to look at Derrick and said in a low voice:

"From now on, follow by my side."

"Yes, Chief, Your Excellency." Derrick agreed without hesitation.

The subsequent exploration was no different from the previous ones, until they once again reached the hall set up with an altar, discovering the blond-haired boy who called himself Jack.

Derrick looked at Chief Colin beside him and reminded him.

"Chief, Your Excellency, we always enter the reset after you kill that boy named Jack."

"Hmm, what else do you know?" Colin gave a slight nod and asked further.

"It came from the outside world; I don't know more information. Before, we hadn't asked about these, and it turned into a monster attacking us, then was killed by the Chief."

Derrick shook his head lightly.

The boy curled up in the shadows had already been half-surrounded by the members of the Silver City exploration team, with everyone keeping a safe distance from him.

The boy gazed earnestly at everyone, continuously saying: "Save me, save me."

Chief Colin nodded imperceptibly, moved closer, and said:

"What's your name?"

"My name is Jack."

"How should I save you?"

The boy suddenly showed an excited expression and said:

"Save me, save me, send me home! Send me home!"

"Where is your home?" Colin continued to ask in a low voice.

The boy weakly raised his hand and said: "My home is in Enmate Port."

Enmate Port? Mr. Hanged Man never mentioned it, but from the word "port" it seems to be the outside world, perhaps the Loen Kingdom where Miss Justice and her companions are. Derrick secretly felt delighted guessing this.

The boy's mention of "Enmate Port" made Colin see the dawn of a new world, causing him to instantly forget other things and immediately ask:

"How did you get here?"

Jack the boy showed a reminiscent expression and slowly narrated:

"I and my father took a boat, met up with his partners, continued by boat, and after a great great storm, the survivors landed on land."

"We followed the direction of the Lord's gaze and kept walking until we arrived here."

Following the direction of the Lord's gaze? Chief Colin and the others' gazes simultaneously fell on the statue on the altar, trying to discern where it was looking.

As long as we go opposite to that direction, we can find the seaside and the place they landed; Chief Colin has already begun to sketch a rough map in his mind.

That direction is the Giant King Court! Chief Colin quickly, according to his memory, found the landing point in the route described by the boy.

Behind the Giant King Court there is a road leading to the seaside? And on the other side of the sea, there is a human nation.

"I'm hungry."

"Hungry."

Jack the boy suddenly began to mutter abnormally, the clothing on his chest and abdomen stained dark red, as if liquid was slowly seeping out.

While muttering, he opened his clothing, exposing his bare chest and abdomen.

On it were inlaid two eyes, a nose, and a mouth!

That was a face pieced together from organs belonging to three different people.

That face was gentle and indifferent, making Derrick inexplicably feel somewhat familiar.

He frowned, thought for two seconds, and quickly recalled the source of his sense of familiarity:

This face is the angel in that mural, the silver-haired angel treading the cycle of rivers!

Before Chief Colin could act, he immediately lowered his voice and reminded:

"Chief, Your Excellency, the face on his chest resembles the angel on the mural I just destroyed; I suspect that angel is the Fate Angel Ulorus beside the True Creator!"

Chief Colin suppressed the impulse to immediately act and kill the boy; he stared deeply at Derrick, making his scalp tingle, wondering if he had said something wrong, causing the Chief's misunderstanding.

The next moment, Colin half-knelt, plunged his straight sword into the ground, and an invisible air wall blocked the boy who lunged forward.

Derrick saw the boy's body again emit black and red mixed light, like before, which hissed as it eroded the air wall blocking him.

Colin released his grip on the straight sword, slowly rose, and with his backhand drew another straight sword from his back, smearing it with golden-yellow grease like sunlight.

Seeing Colin's movement, the boy's actions became more violent, as if a beast sensing danger was making its final struggle.

Colin pulled out the long sword stuck in the ground, leaving a blurred afterimage in place.

The next moment, gold and silver flashed brightly, illuminating the entire underground hall; after Jack the boy let out a piercing scream, all light quickly vanished, and darkness once again shrouded the altar.

The boy collapsed to the ground; the face on his chest and abdomen had disappeared, leaving only a hollow where the internal organs' movement could be seen.

Several meters away, Chief Colin half-squatted on the ground, both hands tightly gripping a straight sword each.

Before him, there was a face split into four parts.

The organs on that face twitched as if struck by lightning, then quickly stilled and rapidly rotted.

At that moment, Derrick felt an invisible, water-wall-like barrier appear around him, then silently shatter.

He felt as if he had left the turbulent river and returned to the shore.

Derrick felt joy in his heart, finally letting go, finally breaking free from the cycle of fate.

He turned his head; the other exploration team members showed no abnormality.

Perhaps only upon returning to Silver City could they discover from the date discrepancy that they had lost a period of life. Derrick silently thought.

"You just said there is a Fate Angel named Ulorus beside the True Creator?"

Chief Colin, not knowing when, sheathed his dual-wielded straight swords, walked to Derrick's side and asked in a low voice:

"Huh?" Derrick blinked, not knowing why the Chief suddenly asked this, but still honestly nodded and said:

"Yes, after learning of my experience, a gathering member reminded me of this."

"He said that Urolius likes to paint, so perhaps I could find some clues from the murals."

"So you just went ahead and hacked at that mural?"

Chief Colin swept a complicated gaze over Derrick, then continued:

"Don't be so reckless next time. You should discuss it with me beforehand. Even without the memories of previous explorations, my experience is enough for me to make the right judgment."

"I understand, Chief." Derrick nodded lightly with a touch of elation; from the Chief's words he detected a sense of care and trust.

Colin did not look at Derrick's current expression. With a grave gaze, he stared at the statue of the True Creator on the altar.

After gazing for a long while, he slowly spoke:

"In the records of Silver City, 'the Lord who created all, the omniscient and omnipotent God,' when watching over this world, was surrounded by many angels. Among them, the leaders of all angels, the Kings of Angels closest to the divine throne, numbered eight in total."

"Among them, two Kings of Angels bore the titles of the Angel of Time and the Angel of Fate."

"The Angel of Fate?" Derrick was taken aback for a moment, then had a sudden realization as to why the Chief had looked at him so strangely earlier.

The Chief's low voice reached his ears:

"Yes, the Angel of Fate, Urolius the 'Tail-Devourer'!"

Had the Angel of Fate betrayed the Lord? Or was the True Creator the Lord after losing many authorities? No, impossible — the True Creator was an evil god.

Derrick reflexively rejected the conjecture that surfaced in his mind; it was what he least wanted to believe, harder to accept than the Lord abandoning them.

Chief Colin drew a deep breath, withdrawing his gaze from the statue of the True Creator, and said in a steady voice:

"Next time, when you attend the gathering, ask the member who told you about the Angel of Fate for relevant intelligence. You can even ask the one you've established contact with — whatever price is needed, you can come directly to me."

"I understand, Chief."

Backlund, Jowood District, Mingsike Jie.

Creak! The door to Rekdun's study was pushed open, and Tu Ba Ge led in Emlyn, who wore a peculiar expression.

Rekdun, having been forced to end his exchange with Sasilier, looked at the vampire across from him with a displeased expression and said:

"How do you know my address?"

Emlyn casually found a chair and sat down, then tilted his head back slightly and said with a somewhat haughty air:

"Shouldn't you be concerned about what I came to see you for?"

"Also, you keep so many animals and various spirit bodies at home — are you trying to walk our bloodline's path?"

"What, you want to contribute a Beast Tamer's characteristics to me?"

Rekdun glanced at the vampire Emlyn, who looked somewhat ostentatious, and said.

"Ahem." Emlyn's expression stiffened. He awkwardly forced a smile and changed the subject:

"I wanted to ask you — based on your understanding of 'the Fool,' is He truly a relatively amiable existence?"

"You still haven't made up your mind!"

Rekdun let out a sigh of exclamation, leaned back against the chair, and chuckled:

"Your ancestors' revelation clearly treated Him as a predetermined ally, and you are the middleman — oh no, the middle ghost."

"It's the noble bloodline!" Emlyn corrected indignantly, then returned to the previous topic, his tone unable to conceal excitement and trepidation:

"Are you saying that I bear the heavy responsibility of forging a secret alliance between our ancestor and that Fool!"

After saying this, Emlyn fell silent, seeming to lose himself in a new round of inner conflict and self-convincing.

But judging by his appearance, he was not far from praying to the Fool.
