Chapter 244: Communication
After half an hour of inner turmoil, Emulin looked at Leiketon with some suspicion and said:
"You seem eager for me to pray to that fool, and every time I ask you for advice you appear to be guiding me."
He suddenly became clever. One could say he has some brain, but most of the time he doesn't need it.
Leiketon sized up the suspicious‑looking Emulin and let out a light laugh, saying:
"It can't be called guidance; I merely expounded one possibility."
"After all, you probably don't like hearing the truth spoken directly."
"What truth?" Emulin asked, puzzled.
"Your blood clan has so many members, and you are neither especially outstanding nor uniquely gifted; how could the revelation given by your progenitor involve you? If it truly involved you, it should have been given to you directly."
Emulin was stunned for a moment; instinctively he wanted to retort, but after opening his mouth he didn't know what to say.
After a long silence he murmured, "Was I deceived?"
"It might not count as deception; the revelation from your progenitor should be true, just not specifically assigned to any individual."
"Isn't that the same then?"
Emulin muttered softly, feeling a bit uncomfortable, as his recent turmoil seemed like a joke.
Leiketon let out a slight sigh, leaned his body forward against the chair back, and began in a tone tinged with lament and temptation:
"Your progenitor did not designate any specific individual to fulfill His revelation, but when someone—oh no, a spirit—pursues His revelation and labors for it, His favor will naturally descend."
"Damn, it's the blood clan! Stop always getting it wrong!"
Emulin, full of anger, corrected Leiketon's words and then asked for confirmation:
"Really? If I pray to that fool, will the progenitor's favor truly descend?"
"If you're still uneasy, you can ask Father Wuteleafuski; he is a devotee of the Great Mother Earth and knows more about divine favor."
"Um," Emulin hesitated, shook his head, and said, "Better not."
Then he slowly rose from his seat, bowed slightly toward Leiketon, and said:
"Thank you for your answer, though I feel you've been stringing me along."
Leiketon shrugged indifferently, stood, and escorted Emulin out.
At the doorway, he happened upon Klein, who was about to knock, carrying a leather suitcase.
He glanced at Emulin with puzzlement, thinking, this is the unlucky vampire who volunteers at Harvest Church; has he fully embraced the Great Mother Earth?
"My intuition tells me you're thinking something very rude!"
After leaving, Emulin suddenly turned back and said something to Klein.
"Um, do vampires even have such keen intuition?" Klein smiled awkwardly:
"Your illusion."
Emulin gave Klein a suspicious stare, then turned and left.
Leiketon stepped aside to make a passage, waited for Klein to enter, then closed the door and walked to the sofa to sit.
Klein placed the suitcase on the coffee table and opened it; inside were cash in £100 notes and a small iron box.
Klein gestured over it and explained:
"These gold pounds were paid by Miss Justice; my share has already been taken, the rest are yours."
"And this, it's the cursed object of that ancient vengeful spirit; as the intermediary, take it to trade with Mr. Lawrence for me."
"No problem," Leiketon nodded noncommittally; it wasn't any trouble for him.
After closing the suitcase, he pushed it in front of Leiketon, and Klein, slightly curious, asked about Emulin:
"By the way, what did that vampire just come to you for? To have you remove a mental suggestion from him?"
"You mean Emulin? He came to ask whether he should pray to the fool or not."
Leiketon slumped on the sofa, a slight curve lifting his mouth, and said:
"Um," Klein was stunned for two seconds; his first reaction was that the other was joking, then he dismissed that thought.
Why would a vampire pray to the fool? He's also a bounty hunter? Yet those searching for the fool have mostly given up lately.
"Why does he want to pray to the fool?"
"The revelation from the blood clan's progenitor seems to mention the fool and a corresponding honorific; the blood clan's higher‑ups have been coaxing him to recite the fool's honorific."
"Progenitor of the blood clan?" Klein frowned slightly, saying:
"Didn't the ancient god Lilith fall in the Second Era, long before the Great Cataclysm?"
"Now, when Lilith occasionally responds to the blood clan, which deity is impersonating her? Or did He never truly die?"
"Perhaps both possibilities exist?"
Leiketon raised an eyebrow and said, "After all, who would think that the one impersonating Lilith could be He himself, even the war god didn't anticipate!"
"You don't seem very concerned about this," Klein squinted, having keenly sensed the other's attitude.
Leiketon smiled at the remark, gave a slight nod, and said:
"This is an investment from Lilith."
"Just like the investments you already have from the Night Goddess, the God of Knowledge, and the Hidden Sage, now a big player wants to get involved."
"God of Knowledge?" Klein was just puzzled when he saw Leiketon point a finger at himself.
Regarding being a double‑agent, you are very gifted, Klein thought to himself, muttered two lines in his mind, steadied his emotions, and then continued:
"Am I important? Or is the Source Fortress above the gray mist important? Why are so many major deities and hidden entities investing?"
Leiketon's expression turned serious as he nodded and replied:
"Very important. In short, everyone seeks the great ruler above the spirit realm, yet they don't want A Meng to ascend to that position."
"Should I thank the patron for placing me on the same level as that blasphemous A Meng?"
Klein teased half‑jokingly.
"Compared with A Meng, your advantage is that you have already claimed the land as king; as long as you keep occupying Yuan Bao, one day you will become its master."
"Hoo—, after a long exhale, Ke Lai En steadied his emotions and forced a smile back onto his face:"
"This matter is still too far from me; compared to that, quickly advancing to Half‑God and covering the trace of Yuan Bao on me is my most urgent task."
"The New Year is approaching, and I plan to vacation at Di Xi Hai Wan, while also avoiding the storm brewing in Bei Ke Lan De."
"You probably can't hide; a spectacular meteor shower will soon rain down on you. I mourn the unlucky Fool for two seconds in my heart, then lift the corner of my mouth and say:"
"That's a good idea; I also plan to leave Bei Ke Lan De after ending my deal with the True Creator, then go aboard the Golden Dream of Bing Shan Zhong Jiang and become a treasure hunter."
"How big a commotion are you planning to cause in Bei Ke Lan De?"
"Ke Lai En looked at Lei Ke Dun with some suspicion; he instinctively thought the other's move to leave Bei Ke Lan De must be a getaway after finishing the job."
"After causing trouble in Bei Ke Lan De, I'll probably end up on the Storm and Night Church's bounty list."
"Lei Ke Dun spread his hands and said casually,"
"Your tone doesn't sound troubled at all! Ke Lai En muttered silently under his breath, then rose to take his leave."
"West District, Ka Er Peng Sa Inn."
"Lei Ke Dun's figure quickly materialized in the room, and Lawrence and Fo Er Si, who were talking, turned to look at him simultaneously."
"Lei Ke Dun lifted the small iron box in his hand and greeted with a smile:"
"Good afternoon, both of you!"
"Good afternoon, Mr. Tai En Si." "Good afternoon."
"Fo Er Si and Lawrence each nodded in response."
"Lei Ke Dun placed the small iron box containing the cursed ancient resentful spirit in front of Lawrence, then dragged a chair over, sat down and said:"
"Inside is the cursed ancient resentful spirit; if you have already obtained Asman's Brain, you can prepare for promotion today."
"If you haven't gotten it yet, it's best to leave Bei Ke Lan De first; this place will become dangerous soon, and your health isn't great, so leaving is safer."
"'Soon?' Fo Er Si exclaimed in surprise; she had originally come to tell Mr. Lawrence that Bei Ke Lan De might become dangerous soon, so it's better to leave quickly."
"No, I must find a suitable excuse to have Xiu leave with me; with such little time, how can I find a proper excuse!"
"Lawrence let out a slight sigh; he hadn't sensed any danger brewing in Bei Ke Lan De, but reason made him trust the other party."
"Ms. Fo Er Si had just mentioned the same topic; perhaps Bei Ke Lan De truly has an unknown danger approaching."
"'Asman's Brain isn't with me, but I have gathered enough gold pounds to purchase the cursed ancient resentful spirit, and I will buy that material first.'"
"As he spoke, Lawrence stood, retrieved a leather suitcase from the room's cabinet, which contained the gold pounds already prepared."
"'Here are 1,700 pounds; the corresponding extraordinary materials for Series Six are generally over 1,500 pounds, and the apprentice route is rarer, often with a premium, so I prepared an extra 200 pounds.'"
"Lawrence explained while pushing the suitcase containing the gold pounds to Lei Ke Dun, indicating he could check for any issues."
"Lei Ke Dun gave a gentle nod; a faint violet shimmer passed through his eyes, then faded quickly."
"Immediately, he closed the suitcase, gave a slight nod and smiled:"
"'No problem. Could you give me a leather bag? I didn't bring anything to hold these gold pounds.'"
"'Also, you'd better leave early tomorrow; if it's too late you won't make it.'"
"'Tomorrow?' Lawrence murmured, then nodded gravely and said, 'I will.'"
"'When you say "soon", you mean tomorrow? That's a bit too fast, isn't it?'"
"Fo Er Si was momentarily stunned; with such little time, she couldn't find a suitable excuse to take Xiu and leave Bei Ke Lan De."
