Chapter 307: Your business is expanding quite fast
After quietly listening to Latisia's statement, Leiketon leaned back in his chair and fell into contemplation.
He happened to feel that the Seer's path promotion to Sequence Four ritual was too difficult, so he chose to adventure and steal the "Book of Calamity", hoping to rely on the Calamity Queen's trait to take the Storm Path?
This is somewhat too absurd. She seems more like a tool person arranged long ago by the Hidden Sage, influencing and controlling her from the start, directing events' development. So, is the essence of opportunity a conspiracy?
In the midst of his thoughts, his inspiration was suddenly triggered.
Leiketon turned his head toward the side bay window, where a majestic figure clad entirely in black armor and wearing a jet-black crown appeared.
"Long time no see, Thief 'Black Emperor', your business has expanded quite fast, even reaching the sea."
Leiketon suppressed the smile at the corner of his mouth, spoke up and greeted Klein, who was dressed as the Thief Black Emperor.
The majestic figure that emerged from the bay window remained silent, hovering silently in midair, quietly observing Leiketon.
Is this the reason the divination showed no danger? Although it's indeed safe, I'm about to die of embarrassment!
Fortunately, after absorbing the Black Emperor card, my spiritual body was covered with a layer of armor, so at least he couldn't see my face. Klein silently complained in his heart, then gave Leiketon a blank, expressionless nod, and his figure instantly vanished.
Leiketon withdrew his gaze, casually said to Latisia:
"Your mission is complete. As a reward, which path do you want to become an extraordinary being of? I can promise you the extraordinary traits below demigod, as well as the Sequence Four promotion ritual."
Latisia then snapped back to reality, recalling what she had just said, her face instantly turning pale.
Her eyes showed undisguisable fear; after a long while, she whispered:
"Mission? Reward?"
Leiketon lightly nodded and said:
"You can understand it as: everything you've done is a secret mission, starting from when you discovered information about the 'Book of Calamity'."
"Who is this mission from?"
Her face was somewhat pale, but her tone wasn't very doubtful; she seemed to have guessed something.
"You haven't already guessed it, have you?"
"Have you decided which path you want to become an extraordinary being of?"
Leiketon slightly raised his eyebrows, his tone flat as he posed two counterquestions.
Latisia rather conflictedly shook her head, rubbing the back of her left hand with her right, then her gaze fell on Leiketon as she pondered and spoke:
"I don't know; do you have any recommendations for this?"
"My recommendation?"
"Seer, Scholar, and Reader—walking the path of seeking knowledge, you will receive more favor than others."
Leiketon rubbed his chin with his right hand, offering his own recommendation.
"Reader?"
Latisia pondered, seemingly unable to understand why Reader would be an option; she recalled that the only path adjacent to Seer was Scholar, wondering if this was an expansion of his authority?
She quickly reined in her thoughts; these matters were not for her to speculate on at will.
After quickly thinking it through in her mind, she made her choice:
"I choose the Reader path."
Leiketon looked at Latisia, quite surprised, said nothing, merely giving a light nod in response.
He raised his right hand, lifting it to his brow, and before him appeared an eye pattern composed of brilliant starlight, without eyelashes.
As he pushed his hand forward, the condensed Seer's Eye automatically flew toward Latisia, entering the center of her right palm.
Latisia reflexively lifted her hand to examine her palm; a eyelash-less eye pattern flashed across it, and thereafter, no matter how she observed, she found no trace.
Latisia pondered for a moment, then asked thoughtfully:
"Is this the Seer's Eye?"
That Latisia could recognize the Seer's Eye did not surprise Leiketon; although she was an ordinary person, she was ultimately a member of the Mos Ascetic Society.
He lightly nodded:
"Yes, it can be used for contact, and it also makes it convenient for me to find you."
"I will gather the materials for your Reader's potion in the next few days and give it to you; before then, you had best not leave the Rothschild Islands' range, otherwise it will be troublesome for me to track you down."
"Alright."
Latisia gave a slight nod, opened her mouth, somewhat puzzled as to how the other party had arrived so soon after she obtained the "Book of Calamity".
But as her gaze fell, the other's figure quickly faded away; in the blink of an eye, only she remained in the room.
In the Spirit World, Leiketon wandered amid overlapping dense color blocks.
His purpose was clear: the ancient elf ruins where Latisia obtained the Book of Calamity.
Before he could approach, violent and frenzied aura permeated the surrounding Spirit World area, like a gathering gale, constantly spreading outward.
Leiketon's intuition suddenly warned him, and his figure abruptly halted.
Boom—
A bucket-thick silver-white electric arc fell, scraping past his foot and striking toward an unknown Spirit World area.
Boom— Boom—
One after another, silver-white electric light fell.
Leiketon clenched his left fist, specks of starlight surfaced, then he fiercely thrust forward with a punch.
The barrier between Spirit World and reality was shattered by him, and those silver-white electric lights scattered into reality.
Deep in the jungle, in a sky utterly devoid of clouds, sudden thunderclaps rang out from nowhere, startling nearby animals to flee swiftly.
While in the Spirit World, Leiketon's motion paused slightly; he sensed that he had been locked onto by a will full of malice and anger.
"Kavituwa?"
He lowly murmured, then Leiketon distanced himself from the Spirit World area of those ancient elf ruins.
Specks of starlight appeared around him, shielding him from the aura of the Book of Calamity in his hand, while also increasing his speed of wandering through the Spirit World.
On a reef in the waters of the Roshide Archipelago, Leikedun's figure swiftly appeared.
The floating shards of starlight around him swiftly condensed, forming a high-backed chair standing on the reef and a desk.
He sat down peacefully and began to flip through the yellowish-brown sheepskin ancient book in his hands.
The book's content was written in Elvish, recording many songs and foods favored by elves, and it depicted some scenes: a magnificent and wondrous undersea palace, lightning dancing in the high heavens, and elves singing loudly on coastal reefs.
After reading through the entire Book of Heavenly Disaster, Leikedun noticed no trace of the Heavenly Disaster Queen's aura, nor any information related to her.
Well hidden, or is this book merely a medium?
After a moment's thought, Leikedun chanted an honorific in Ancient Hermetic:
"The Left Hand of God, the Executor of the Lord, the Viceroy of Heaven."
"I have obtained the Book of Heavenly Disaster; I don't know if you're interested in it."
Having finished speaking the prayer, he waited quietly for seven and a half minutes.
The wind and waves on the sea surface suddenly diminished, gradually congealing; the light dimmed at this moment, and the originally blue seawater took on a shadowy layer.
Pieces of black feathers fell from the sky, dropping into the black seawater and spurting wisps of black smoke; they gathered and writhed on the sea surface, coalescing into a figure clad in a black robe, holding a black staff.
This shadow had no discernible face or detail, like a pure, substantive shadow condensed from darkness.
His gaze lingered on the Book of Heavenly Disaster in Leikedun's hand for a moment, then he spoke flatly:
"This book possesses no heavenly disaster traits; it is more like a medium through which Gao Xinamu establishes contact with the outside world and exerts influence."
"After a brief pause, he continued:"
"It contains a portion of His will."
Leikedun nodded without surprise; the moment he obtained the Book of Heavenly Disaster, he knew the heavenly disaster's traits were not in this book.
"Can we use this book as a means of contact to find Him?"
"That Heavenly Disaster Queen should still retain a trace of heavenly disaster traits."
Sasilier stepped forward two paces, took the Book of Heavenly Disaster from Leikedun's hand, and lightly touched the black palm of his hand to the book's cover.
On the yellowish-brown Book of Heavenly Disaster, suddenly a black, viscous liquid began to flow out; these liquids continually twisted as they dripped down, resembling a painful, ferocious human face.
"Ah!!"
A soul‑shaking scream suddenly rang out from the Book of Heavenly Disaster shrouded in black liquid; a terribly ferocious twisted human face appeared, then, like writhing tentacles, it incessantly struggled outward, as if trying to break free of this black binding.
Leikedun felt somewhat dazed by that scream; when he came to, the surroundings had already grown quiet.
The Book of Heavenly Disaster, coated in black viscous liquid, was pierced by the black staff held in Sasilier's hand, and black tendrils dangled down, feebly struggling for a moment.
Leikedun opened his mouth; just as a doubt arose, he heard a soft chime from his ear, then warm fluid flowed out, and the surroundings fell into a deafening silence.
That sound just pierced my eardrum? Leikedun reacted somewhat slowly.
He wiped away the crimson fluid flowing from his ear, then gently rubbed his hand, where specks of brilliant starlight floated, scattering countless glimmers that swiftly dissolved his shed blood.
