Chapter 306: Book of Heavenly Disaster

~8 min read 1,598 words

After a period of exchange, Aidewenna stood up, picked up the self-made textbook that had long been prepared, turned her head and asked Leikdun:

"I'm going to give a lecture to the crew of the Golden Dream, do you need to participate?"

"No, I haven't finished my breakfast."

Leikdun raised the hot drink in his hand in response, then found a chair and sat down.

Having received the answer, Aidewenna directly pushed the small blackboard behind her and left the captain's quarters.

After a moment, on the Golden Dream, all the idle pirates gathered on the deck in front of the sailboat.

They sat lazily but in neat rows, gathering in groups of three or two, everyone leaning back as much as possible to let their figures be submerged in the crowd.

"Damn it! Come over here, don't keep squeezing backward, I'm about to be squeezed off the deck by you."

"It's not me squeezing, it's the guy in front."

"Quick, make some space for me!"

"Danniers, didn't I ask you to save me a spot?"

"You shameless guys, I was clearly sitting in the last row just now, but now I've somehow become the first row."

"You're sitting too far back, move forward a bit, we're starting today's lesson."

Aidewenna, like a teacher walking onto the podium, as her voice fell, the crew members below, with resigned expressions, moved forward a distance.

Leikdun, leaning against the bow railing, enjoyed the gentle morning sea breeze while observing this group of pirates forced to attend class, somewhat like the atmosphere of university lectures.

On the other side, Aidewenna had already begun writing and drawing on the small blackboard, starting today's general education lesson.

Aidewenna spoke in a soft yet powerful voice:

"Today we are learning Ancient Futhark."

"This language is considered the source of the languages of the northern continent's nations; whether it's Rune language, Ingrid language, or the present Futhark language, they all derive from changes based on this foundation."

"Legend says Ancient Futhark originates from the giant language, and it is also one of the scripts most commonly used in various treasures; as treasure hunters, this is knowledge we must learn and master."

Aidewenna had the bearing of a university professor, or rather, being stuck on a ship with a bunch of illiterates was too hard for her; distant Leikdun silently gave his evaluation in his heart.

In the next moment, his vision blurred, illusory starlight flashed across, and a somewhat fleeting scene appeared in his field of view, like a sudden hallucination.

In the vision, four people dressed as adventurers were quickly walking through the jungle, with a woman leading.

Her black hair was simply tied up, she had a pair of distinctive blue-gray eyes, and her appearance was the pleasant kind.

She wore a men's shirt, paired with a khaki thick jacket, and on her head she wore a round-brimmed hat with a dent in the middle, the typical attire of an adventurer at sea, but now she was running through the jungle.

Around him were three other men, similarly dressed, and their bodies showed obvious signs of long exposure to sun and rain.

The scene suddenly changed, zooming in on the woman's details, revealing a corner of a yellowish-brown sheepskin ancient book covered by her hands.

On the surface of the book, a line of words was written in Elvish: "Book of Heavenly Disaster."

In an instant, the vision vanished, as if it had never appeared, only a cold, emotionless voice echoed in Leikdun's mind:

"The primeval forest of Ximimu Island in the Luoside Archipelago."

Leikdun looked toward the sea with a puzzled expression, muttering:

"'Book of Heavenly Disaster', is that woman Latiusya? How does the Hidden Sage know I want to obtain that 'Book of Heavenly Disaster', showing even more enthusiasm than I do."

"Or is all of this under His plan?"

After pondering for a moment, he gathered his thoughts, waited until Aidewenna finished today's general education lesson, then stepped forward to bid farewell.

"It seems your crew's learning progress is not ideal."

Hearing the voice, Aidewenna glanced back at Leikdun and said with a slightly helpless tone:

"They have already passed the best age for receiving education, and their past life experiences have also made them averse to this dull, boring learning."

Leikdun nodded in agreement, then changed the topic:

"The Rose School's attention has already shifted, but you may need to pay attention to the Storm Church later, as recent events will cause them to increase their focus on the Golden Dream significantly."

Aidewenna nodded without surprise:

"This is as expected."

"I will set sail soon for Feineibote, and we will soon be able to begin grain trade."

"No problem."

Leikdun gave a slight nod, without asking why the other party had lingered in the waters of the Luoside Archipelago for this period.

Turning around and stepping forward, his body quickly became transparent, disappearing aboard the Golden Dream.

On Ximimu Island, in a local inn, Leikdun came here based on a hint from divination.

Purple light flowed in his pupils, his sight penetrating layer after layer of walls, floors, and roof obstructions, allowing him to see the situation in the surrounding rooms.

Quite unexpectedly, he saw Klain's figure in a guest room on the third floor of the inn, and the other party keenly noticed his gaze.

"Coming to play the faceless person?" Leikdun quickly realized why Klain had appeared here, then withdrew his gaze and no longer paid attention.

He turned and walked toward the northwest corner of the second-floor hallway, the room closest to the stairs.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

"Who?"

A low, slightly wary female voice came from inside the room.

"The one who came to take something."

Leikdun answered honestly:

The person inside responded without hesitation:

"You've left the room; I have nothing here that needs to be taken."

The woman's voice inside was calm, but Leikdun detected a slight shortness of breath and a quickening heartbeat.

The detective, skilled at uncovering hidden information in life's details, silently muttered to himself, and in the next instant his figure became transparent, as if turning into a statue formed from countless gathered starlight.

The statue instantly shattered, brilliant starlight sparkling and flowing, seeping through the tiny gap in the door, entering the room where Latiusya was.

Sparkling starlight surged like a rushing stream inside the room, quickly passing over Latiasia and darting about the room.

Latiasia's eyes grew grave for a moment; she swiftly reached into the inner pocket of her clothing and pulled out a handful of powdery substance, scattering it.

It was a semi-transparent powder; as she finished the motion, she simultaneously opened her mouth and softly chanted in Ancient Hermes language:

"Wind!"

A great wind arose from nowhere with a whoosh, sweeping around.

It had no effect whatsoever on the starlight permeating the room.

She then scattered a handful of gray-black sunflower powder, again chanting softly in Ancient Hermes language:

"Sun!"

The sunflower powder ignited rapidly in midair, then emitted a fierce but non-irritating golden light.

This light flowed like water waves outward, then was quickly swallowed by the brilliant starlight, leaving no trace.

Moments later, the brilliant starlight filling the room suddenly converged.

Starlight fragments began to reassemble within, revealing the figure of Rexton, who still held a yellowish-brown sheepskin ancient book in his hand.

On the surface of this ancient book, a single line was written in Elvish: "Book of Heavenly Calamity".

"The Book of Heavenly Calamity? Is that your target? How do you know this book is with me?"

Latiasia quickly suppressed her fear and anxiety, giving Rexton a strange look as she spoke doubtfully.

Rexton sized up the efficient-looking Latiasia before him, whose expression also held a hint of fatigue, and chuckled.

"Then why did you come to take this book?"

His words carried a subtle spiritual influence, unconsciously affecting the other's thoughts and judgment.

Such a method is hardly a major influence on extraordinary beings, but for an ordinary person who has not yet become extraordinary, it proves difficult to resist.

Latiasia hesitated whether to speak or stay silent, but the thought of lying was completely dismissed by her.

During this time of her inner turmoil and struggle, Rexton continued speaking:

"Although you are a member of the Moss Ascetic Order, you have not become extraordinary; they would not have sent you to fetch this book, and they might not even know of the existence of this 'Book of Heavenly Calamity'."

"So you are acting on your own? Where did you get the news about the Book of Heavenly Calamity?"

Under Rexton's words laced with spiritual interference and the mental pressure, Latiasia's thoughts became utterly confused, and she answered almost without thinking:

"I am not unable to become extraordinary; I simply do not wish to."

"This is secret information I happened upon from some ancient texts and records, the result of my own judgment and reasoning."

"If I can obtain this Book of Heavenly Calamity originating from the Heavenly Calamity Queen, I will have the qualification to ascend directly to demigod!"

"Only by relying on my identity as an ordinary person can I enter the ancient Jinling ruins without triggering a chain reaction and obtain this Book of Heavenly Calamity from there."

"The path of demigod ascension for those who seek secrets is too difficult; the blood of mythical creatures, unless those angels walking the earth are willing, is otherwise impossible to obtain."

Latiasia's words lacked much coherence; it was more like she spoke whatever came to mind.
