Chapter 347: Divination and Angelwed
Klein fell briefly silent. He could accept Rekdor's explanation, but he could not ignore the tragedies the Aurora Club had caused beyond the land abandoned by God, much less the True Creator who orchestrated it all.
Thump~ thump~ Seeing Klein fall silent, Rekdor reached out and rapped the edge of the table in front of him twice with slightly forceful taps. Once he saw Klein's attention drawn over, he chuckled softly and said, "There's no need to dwell on this too much. Each of us views problems from different angles, and sticking to your own thoughts is perfectly fine."
"We can despise Him for the atrocities the Aurora Club committed to welcome the True Creator's descent, or we can choose to cooperate with Him out of certain necessary trade-offs."
"Necessary trade-offs?" Klein murmured softly. His inspiration stirred suddenly, and he looked at Rekdor, saying thoughtfully, "You Beyonders of the Reader pathway all seem to like viewing problems with this kind of rational attitude."
"I'm just a Mystagogist now."
Rekdor spoke up to correct him, then chuckled softly, "However, having been a Reader for so long, I've more or less kept some of the habits."
"As for the similar habits among Readers, this is largely due to the influence of acting and potions, that is, the influence from the top of the sequence upon the same pathway."
The moment the words left his mouth, Rekdor himself froze for a beat, then pursed his lips and tilted his head back. He roughly understood why the God of Knowledge was so adept at picking sides.
After a brief silence, Rekdor changed the subject: "I'll sacrifice a scale to you. Try and see if you can use it to lock onto that Imaginary Dragon who has returned."
"Alright... though it most likely won't be of any use. He must have taken corresponding precautions."
Klein said after some deliberation, though he did not refuse the attempt Rekdor proposed. He was also very interested in that Imaginary Dragon. Across this gray fog, even a former ancient god probably couldn't do anything to me.
Deep crimson light surged up like a tide around him. Rekdor's vision blurred, and he found himself back in the inn in Bayam.
He quickly rose from the sofa and rummaged through the room for candles, essential oils, and other ritual materials. Lacking materials rich in spirituality, he directly used his own spirituality to create brilliant starlight, condensing them into transparent amber pieces as substitutes.
Having quickly prepared a simple sacrificial ritual, he gently rubbed his fingers together, producing several crimson flames that lit the candles before him. He then took a step back and began chanting the invocation: "The Fool who does not belong to this era, the mysterious sovereign above the gray fog, the Lord of Yellow and Black who wields good fortune."
"Your faithful servant prays for Your gaze; prays that You accept his offering; prays that You open the gates of Your kingdom."
……
Within the ancient palace above the gray fog, a deep crimson light suddenly surged. As the light faded, Rekdor's figure appeared here once more.
His gaze went straight to the head of the mottled long table, to that blurred figure shrouded in gray fog.
A grayish-white scale hung quietly in midair, rotating slowly, revealing strange symbols on its two sides.
Klein watched the grayish-white scale in silence, carefully sensing something. After a moment, he said as if in deep thought, "He has indeed taken certain precautions. What this scale connects to seems to be the entire mental world, rather than any single individual."
Rekdor nodded gently, not too surprised:
"As expected. At the very least, this scale is more likely from His own body, rather than from another dragon or an imitation crafted object."
A moment later, Klein directly reached out and grasped the grayish-white scale. He closed his eyes and softly chanted:
"The location of the Imaginary Dragon."
After repeating it seven times, he quickly entered deep sleep through meditation.
In the dream, Klein quickly regained consciousness. He saw himself appear above a vast, dark, and profound sea. Every drop of liquid around him was like a ray of light and shadow, hazy and dreamlike. This is... the sea of collective subconscious? The so-called mental world? The surroundings left Klein slightly stunned. Even though this was merely a scene seen through dream divination, the layered and alternating consciousnesses within the sea of collective subconscious inevitably caused turbulence in his mind.
Every consciousness within the mind was exchanging with the sea of collective subconscious to some degree. Beyonders not skilled in the mental domain could not take a single step here; in fact, a moment of inattention would be enough for their minds to be corrupted by the various subconsciouses layered and accumulated here.
"A mindset of curiosity and thirst for knowledge is a personality tendency that no Reader can avoid."
A voice that pierced straight into the mind suddenly resounded in Klein's mind. His spirituality churned like a startled beast, on guard, seemingly ready to break free from the dream divination state at any moment.
Before his astonished eyes, a massive figure emerged from the depths of the illusory and profound sea:
It was a slender lizard-like monster, its body the size of a small mountain, its entire surface covered in enormous grayish-white stone-like scales, its eyes pale gold and vertically slit.
The "Imaginary Dragon" Angelwed—He was actually hiding directly in the depths of the sea of collective subconscious, waiting for my divination. Wasn't it said that ancient gods were all mad? Why does He appear quite rational?
Angelwed's pale gold vertical eyes were empty, yet He gazed in Klein's direction quite naturally, as if He had already seen him.
Klein felt that he could discern a human-like surprise and delight from the other's enormous, cold eyes?
While Klein was astonished and thinking, Angelwed slightly flapped his murky wings behind him. The mental world around him instantly stirred up a storm, and all kinds of extreme emotions rapidly spawned and spread.
After doing all this, Angelwed spoke as if talking to himself:
"It seems that the God of Knowledge's follower doesn't have much respect or trust for Him. He didn't choose to hand my scale over to the God of Knowledge."
The God of Knowledge? Does that refer to the God of Knowledge? This orthodox god is actually a dragon, and one with a title at that. In the Second Epoch, He was perhaps one of this Imaginary Dragon's subordinate gods.
Truly the style of a Spectator—probing from the very start. Most likely, no matter what choice Al made or whose hands that scale fell into, this former ancient god had corresponding preparations and choices ready.
"I sense no malice, nor can I trace the source of this gaze—which means your grade is very high, or you possess a hidden authority."
"Are you that 'Fool' who has recently become active?"
Angelwed's words, as if asking and answering his own questions, interrupted Klein's reverie. He looked at this massive dragon with considerable surprise.
He can detect my divination, but can't trace it back to me, much less affect me. I can't be careless—this might just be His performance. But how does He know I'm the "Fool"? Just a guess? Or did Al communicate something with Him in the mental world? Should I say something too? Listening to Him talk all this time makes me feel like I'm being passive.
No, I'm only divining. Truly worthy of being an angel of the Spectator pathway—even words unaffected by Beyonder abilities can subtly guide a person without their noticing... At this thought, Klein quickly reined in his thoughts, stopped pondering His words, and quietly played the role of a bystander.
Angelwed's voice did not pause for Klein's thoughts. He was more like talking to himself above this sea of collective subconscious:
"Sequence 0 is not the top of the sequence pathway. When I was still the 'Imaginary Dragon,' I once sensed a higher level of corruption. It came from deep beneath the ground, extremely dangerous!"
"With Antigonus and Zaratul still alive, yet you can still call yourself the 'Fool'—it must be related to that thing the Demon Wolf King calls the 'Castle of Origin,' just as the Ancient Sun God once could control that 'Sea of Chaos' deep beneath the ground."
"There is no direct conflict between us... Perhaps we could try cooperating?"
