Chapter 348: Beiernadai's Arrival
Above the gray fog, within that vast and ancient palace.
Klein slowly opened his eyes. With a slight frown, he looked toward Rekton with a somewhat complex expression and said:
"He was prepared in advance, but had no ill intent. He just muttered a lot of words to himself, and finally proposed a suggestion to try cooperating."
Rekton asked with great curiosity, "You're tempted? What did he say?"
Klein nodded gently, then repeated the words of Angelweed from the dream divination just now. At the end, he asked with some curiosity:
"Dragon of Wisdom was a former title of the God of Knowledge? What kind of relationship and state does He currently have with that former Dragon King? Also, He said the 'Chaos Sea' is hidden deep underground and was once grasped by the Ancient Sun God."
"How did the Ancient Sun God, who grasped the 'Chaos Sea,' die? Who could possibly kill Him?"
He said all that? Does this ancient dragon Erehorg also have a chatterbox trait? Muttering a complaint in his heart, Rekton sat up slightly straighter, cleared his throat, and said, "The Dragon of Wisdom was a subordinate god of the Dragon of Imagination, and the Wisdom Angel was one of the eight Kings of Angels under the Ancient Sun God. They were both former identities of the God of Knowledge."
This... no wonder you navigate so smoothly among so many factions. Klein sighed silently. He even began to suspect whether the people of the Church of Knowledge all had some side jobs to varying degrees.
"The Ancient Sun God could be said to have committed suicide. At that time, He was already a half-Existence Above the Sequence. If it hadn't been voluntary, the true gods and Kings of Angels of that era combined could have defeated Him, but certainly could not have killed Him."
"Suicide? Why?" This answer was beyond Klein's expectations.
He had originally thought it was mutual destruction with another equally powerful existence. After all, the things that could lead Above the Sequence—besides the Chaos Sea, there were also the Castle Above and the Wilderness of Knowledge... "He was corrupted."
Rekton's tone carried an unavoidable sigh as he spoke.
Klein frowned tightly, murmuring in disbelief, "Corruption... can an existence of that level still be corrupted?"
Rekton shook his head gently, took a deep breath, and then spoke:
"The essence of this world is madness!"
"Corruption has always existed. It has nothing to do with the height of one's sequence. In fact, the higher the sequence, the closer to the Original, the easier it is to be corrupted."
Klein fell silent for a moment. He felt a wave of dizziness—his own spirituality could barely hold out anymore.
He glanced casually at Rekton and chuckled softly, "Let's stop here for today!"
As soon as the words fell, Rekton saw deep crimson light rising in his field of vision. His thoughts briefly wandered, and when he came back to his senses, he had already returned to the inn in Bayam.
Just as he regained his senses, his intuition was triggered. He looked in the direction his instinct pointed—a letter sat alone on the side table to his front-left.
"Who would still write me a letter at a time like this?"
Muttering in a low voice, Rekton rose from the sofa and took two steps forward toward the side table.
Before he could even bend down to pick up the envelope, thick green vines suddenly descended all around. They covered the surrounding area like a torrential rain, intertwining and overlapping, layer upon layer, rapidly forming a forest.
Uh, the Captain hasn't even been away from above the gray fog for half an hour, has he... I actually underestimated Beiernadai's place in the Captain's heart.
Rekton silently complained in his heart. He followed his intuition and looked to his left: light composed of stream after stream of vast and chaotic information emerged there. In an illusory manner, they surged through the barrier between reality and the spirit world, reconstituting Beiernadai's body before Rekton's eyes.
She wore beige trousers convenient for movement, stepped in not-too-short black leather boots, and had a light brown knee-length skirt over her upper body. Rarely, she was not wearing her old-fashioned black soft hat. She seems to have come in somewhat of a hurry... Hmm, how should I bluff her.
Beiernadai's gaze swept over Rekton without much emotion. She casually waved her arm, and layered starlight appeared around them, rapidly converging and condensing into two high-backed chairs and a small round table.
"Sit."
"There are some things I wish to ask you. Perhaps, you already know what I'm going to ask?"
Rekton maintained his expression without showing too obvious a change in demeanor, casually leaning back in the high-backed chair formed from starlight behind him.
"I want to know more information about him. I think you should still know quite a bit?"
The questioning words came from Beiernadai's mouth with particular certainty, as if this were a fact she had long since confirmed.
Rekton leaned back in the high-backed chair and pondered for a moment, subconsciously reaching his right hand up to rub his chin. Beiernadai patiently did not interrupt. She sat quietly for a while, then summoned an Invisible Servant, brought out a set of coffee utensils, and began brewing coffee in an orderly manner.
A moment later, Beiernadai placed a cup of freshly brewed coffee in front of Rekton. Her voice showed no urgency, even carrying a somewhat peculiar tone as she said:
"This is a type of coffee very popular among the Intisian upper nobility. You can try it."
"At first, this kind of coffee wasn't popular in Intis. It was just that he rather liked it back then, and it gradually became a trend."
Rekton nodded gently, glanced at the cup of heavily doctored coffee before him, and casually picked it up to take a sip.
Compared to coffee, I think it's more like milk tea... And isn't this way too sweet! I can only accept fifty percent sugar.
Setting down the coffee in his hand, Rekton sat up straight, lightly tapping the coffee cup with his right index finger, and spoke after weighing his words:
"I don't know how much the Captain told you about that place. Emperor Roselle indeed had a deep connection with it. That 'Mr. Fool' is currently collecting Emperor Roselle's diaries. By next week, the Captain might write to you requesting the diaries."
Beiernadai nodded gently, her voice flat as she said:
"Cattleya only mentioned that she was chased by knowledge from the Hidden Sage, and was rescued by a mysterious existence. She also said that the astrolabe I gave her could establish a certain connection with a certain place."
You gave it to her? No wonder the Captain always carries that astrolabe with her. But since she was pulled above the gray fog, that astrolabe should be damaged now.
His thoughts drifted slightly but quickly reined back in. Then, he revealed a very faint smile and said, "Emperor Roselle's diaries recorded many things. Some were his casual reflections, and some were deliberate hints left for certain people."
While speaking, he raised his eyes to look at Beiernadai. Her face showed almost no expression, only her eyes darkened ever so slightly.
Beiernadai had long been a major figure in the mystic world; it was very difficult to observe any obvious expressions or thoughts directly from her face. As thoughts flickered, Rekton stopped tapping the coffee cup and continued, "In his diaries, there were mentions of some rather secret matters and arrangements."
"The nine mausoleums built for his ritual to advance to the Black Emperor were not all destroyed. One remains hidden, on a primordial island deep within the Fog Sea."
"The exact location of that island is known to no one but himself. Moreover, that place has extremely high-level corruption. Any means of divination and prophecy are ineffective there."
